AJC Super 11 DE Robert Nkemdiche of Grayson High School has de-committed from Clemson (AJC)

One day after Robert Nkemdiche said “nothing is final” with his college situation, his coach told another media outlet that the nation’s undisputed No. 1 prospect has indeed de-committed from Clemson.

Grayson High School coach Mickey Conn told’s Will Hammock on Thursday that he notified Clemson’s coaches on Sunday:

“I think he’s still very interested in Clemson, but he’s got a brother (freshman linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche) who goes to Ole Miss and he’s got other schools that he likes as well. He’s going to clear his mind and take some other visits.”

Conn also told the website, “At this point, I think it’s a family decision. The family’s going to get together and make the best decision for Robert.”

Nkemdiche could not be reached for comment on Thursday morning, while his mother told the AJC “Let me check with Robert and get back with you about that.”

Rumors and reports about Robert’s impending de-commitment from Clemson have been circulating all week. You can read about it here.

Why the rampant speculation? Robert’s mother has expressed wishes that both sons play together at Ole Miss, Robert and his mother will be making an unofficial visit to Ole Miss on Saturday, and his mother will leave the next day to return to her home in Nigeria. It seems like perfect timing for Robert to commit to Ole Miss on Saturday?

Which colleges are in contention for Robert? Ole Miss is the heavy frontrunner, while his mother told the AJC that Alabama was initially her favorite school.

“My No. 1 team is Alabama. That’s one school I truly love, Alabama …”  Why do you like Alabama? “Alabama has a good football team. And they’re solid. They have good academics. Right now, they are undefeated. And I’ve stayed in stayed in touch with their coach on Facebook. He is a good person. I like the school but again, I would prefer for Denzel and Robert to play together.”

Robert Nkemdiche told the AJC last week that he would like to visit LSU and Florida.

Oregon and UGA, located 40 minutes from Grayson, are also candidates for the 6-foot-5, 284-pound defensive end.

What about UGA? Robert attended last week’s UGA game on an unofficial visit with the Bulldogs. He was impressed that coach Mark Richt sought out Denzel after the game to exchange compliments

“Coach Richt said a lot of nice things to my brother,” Robert said on Wednesday. “It was very classy. I’m not surprised at all by Coach Richt doing that because he’s such a great dude and such a classy dude.” Richt also talked to Robert Nkemdiche about Robert. “He told me to keep Georgia on my mind, and he’d love for them to have a chance at me.”

Would Nkemdiche seriously consider UGA? “I don’t know. I’m not going to say much about that. Georgia is really good school and who knows? Georgia is a good school.”

Nkemdiche had committed to Clemson on June 14 after two of his high school teammates, RB Wayne Gallman and DB David Kamara, had pledged to the Tigers. Nkemdiche’s coach, Conn, played football with Clemson coach Dabo Swinney at Alabama, and the two were roommates.
