Which colleges are doing the best job at recruiting Georgia’s elite prospects?

It’s the best year ever in Georgia for top-tier football prospects. Never has the state had so many high school seniors ranked so highly, led by Grayson High School’s Robert Nkemdiche – the first-ever Georgia player to ranked No. 1 overall in the nation.

And there’s a lot more talent than just Nkemdiche.

Which colleges are doing the best job of recruiting Georgia’s elite talent?

To determine that, we listed the state’s top 10 prospects from the 247sports Composite Rankings, which combines the rankings of the four major recruiting services — Rivals, Scout, ESPN and newcomer 247sports. (Each player is assigned a composite score that is explained here)

  1. Robert Nkemdiche, DE, Grayson: Committed to Clemson but flirting with Ole Miss. Ranked No. 1 overall in the nation at 1.0000
  2. *Reuben Foster, LB, Auburn, Ala. (formerly Troup): Committed to Auburn. Ranked No. 2 overall in the nation at 0.9991
  3. Montravius Adams, DT, Dooly County: Undecided. Ranked No. 7 in the nation at 0.9968
  4. Carl Lawson, DE, Milton: Committed to Auburn. No. 22 in the nation at 0.9861
  5. Vonn Bell, DB, Ridgeland: Tennessee, Alabama and Ohio State are finalists. Ranked No. 54 in the nation at 0.9720
  6. Tyren Jones, RB, Walton: Committed to Alabama. Ranked No. 68 in the nation at 0.9664
  7. Alvin Kamara, RB, Norcross: Alabama and UGA are co-leaders. Ranked No. 77 in the nation at 0.9613.
  8. Kelsey Griffin, DL, Mill Creek: Committed to South Carolina. Ranked No. 93 in the nation at 0.9567
  9. Tray Matthews, DB, Newnan: Committed to UGA. Ranked No. 94 in the nation at 0.9561
  10. Brice Ramsey, QB, Camden County: Committed to UGA. Ranked No. 95 in the nation at 0.9556

Which colleges are doing the best job of recruiting Georgia’s elite talent?

UGA has two commits out of the top 10 (Matthews and Ramsey), while the Bulldogs are a co-leader for Kamara and likely somewhere in the top five for Montravius. Georgia Tech has none.

Which colleges are surprises? Which ones should be doing better? Please post below.

Going to Tech is like a trip to the moon for recruits. Yes it’s possible for them to go but when you have been told you will actually have to work in the classroom and exercise more than you God given physical skills very few qualify for that. What is really amazing is that the top recruits don’t seem to understand is that with highly skilled players in his offensive scheme CPJ would have a better chance at winning a national championship than teams that run a pro style offense.

If you a Dawg fine like me and you’re satisfied with two of the 10, then you’re satisfied with being average. Nkemdiche fell in our lap but our idiot coaches didn’t offer his older brother even though we had schollies to burn. We didn’t offer Carl Lawson until two months AFTER he committed to Auburn. Kelsey Griffin, that’s a disaster I don’t even want to begin talking about.

Tech mascot should really be a Cicada – large eyes wide apart on the head and usually transparent, benign to humans, loud noisemakers, live underground as nymphs for most of their lives, shed their skins, emerge in July and August – gone by football season.

Eye opener. The only thing I thought Richt was good at was recruiting. Looks like that is now in question. Think about it, since he can’t win with coaching and he is running out of top athletes, what does that say about the future of the program?

That’s easy. As far as QB(s). LSU – ANTHONY JENNINGS, VANDY – JONATHAN McCRARY, ARIZONA STATE – JOSHUA DOBBS, CLEMSON – DESHAUN WATSON, AUBURN/KANSAS STATE – NICK MARSHALL. Then Georgia. As far as offensive linemen, incredibly, Ga. TECH, with Tri City behemoths SHAMIRE DEVINE and JEREMI HALL. FLA. – OCTAVIOUS JACKSON, MAX GARCIA, and probably former UGA commit, BIG TRENTON BROWN. Uga’s offensive line commitments from in-state don’t belong in the SEC. Or for that matter the ACC. 32 years.

Why would a prospective QB want to ever go to Georgia? He won’t get any playing time unless he is “the annointed one”. If a player wants to be coddled and not pushed and still enjoy his scholarship, he might choose Georgia. If he wants to be on a championship team and be noticed by the NFL, he will most likely want to go to Alabama.

UGA continually gets good quarterbacks because Mark Richt and Mike Bobo are the best in the SEC at developing them. Greene, Shockley, Stafford, and now Murray.

To the Tech fans… Stanford’s success on the football field and in recruiting elite Georgia players, blows your theory of the battle between academics and athletics. Stanford is a far more prestigious and academically challenging place than Tech, yet its athletics continually outclass and outperform the Jackets.

To “Does Anybody Proof……..”
I agree, and the implications are that UGa is missing a bunch of great recruits……which is not a fact until signing day. Actually, as you stated, one name on the list is not even a Georgian and is caught up in what could eventually be a Bama/Auburn scandal. Another is a DT who is about #5 on UGa’s prospect list. Two others have not been actively pursued by UGa. So reality is we may get 3-5 of the remaining folks on the list which would be about 85%. I love the way the “fair weather” fans are constantly searching for ways to bash the UGa coaches. These folks will focus on a player like Kelsey Griffin (#93)……and not notice that UGa is saving the scholarships for the #7 (#2 in some polls) player in the Country ie. Montravious Adams. We are also still trying to get the #1 junior college player who is also a DT. Yes, UGa is taking a chance waiting on several sensational players and not pursuing the #93 player, but that is the nature of the recruiting game. Just ask Les Miles, Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, etc.

Surprisingly Florida has not done that well in Georgia this year. Clemson, Aubarn, Bummer and Game Crocks (Spurrier) are the main competition for UGA recruits but keep an eye on Notre Dame and Ohio State. Auburn stands to lose a couple of Georgia commits once their coach is fired. I wish you would quit including Rubin Foster – he is not from Georgia and he plays football in Alabama. Expect him to eat crow and flip to Bummer on signing day unless he has already accepted compensation ala Cam Newton. If UGA had won more big games in the last 5 years they would have had the #1 class in the country this year: Nkemdiche, Adams, Von Bell, Lawson, etc. etc. etc. Time to do a better job of protecting the borders. I can understand Saban but Clemson, S.C. and Aubarn, Notre Dame, – unacceptable.

Nkemdiche’s mama says they aren’t from Georgia – moved here for her job and she doesn’t know anything about UGA? Probably dissing UGA because, due to academic concerns, Richt didn’t offer Denzel a scholarship. Same reason Robert isn’t going to consider UGA – ’cause his brother wasn’t offered by UGA…… of course Denzel did qualify late and UGA still had scholarships to offer. Perhaps a missed opportunity there.

Just because a recruit is ranked high, doesn’t make him a good gamble anymore and I don’t care how good these me, me, me kids are rated, we don’t need any more losers. So we were wrong to not take Kim-chees brother when he didn’t qualify? Bull-crap…
How about doing an article on how many of these prima-donnas don’t workout because of grades or poor judgement of character…You idiots think that every high ranked recruit we miss is a bad thing, but you’re wrong. SOME ARE MISSES AND SOME ARE SMART DECISIONS ON THE COACHES WHO SEE CHARACTER FLAWS…
Funny how some of the same posters are critical when a recruit gets in trouble and everyone wants to know why you recruited a “thug”, lol.
Time to recruit smart team-oriented kids that want to wear the RED & BLACK and don’t abandon us in the middle of the year or get arrested. Being rated the #1 recruit, doesn’t make you the best recruit for a program. Haven’t we learned our lesson yet???

Hal,

So you’re blaming the academics again huh? It’s not the academics at Tech buddy. Stanford is winning and getting big recruits and it is the Harvard of the West. Vanderbilt has had 2 top 20 classes in a row. Was Calvin Johnson an honor student? I’m pretty sure he failed a drug test for Marijuana at the combine. That’s funny. When UGA players fail drug tests for smoking pot, Tech fans call them thugs. Calvin Johnson did it but he’s a Scholar Athlete. How about jonathan Dwyer? How about Joe Hamilton? How he doing? Tershard Choice? I dont think so.

You don’t think Tech doesn’t get top recruits because PJ doesnt believe in recruiting? He has repeatedly said that it doesn’t matter. Stop using the academics excuse. It’s getting old. I graduated from Kennesaw St but at the time I transfered there from Georgia Southern, GaTech actually had much lower GPA requirements to get in than UGA did. The bottom line is your coach is not a good recruiter while Clemson, Alabama, UGA, Auburn and these other schools that come into GA have GREAT recruiters.
On top of not being a good recruiter, Blue Chip kids with NFL aspirations do not want to play in a Pop Warner/Highschool style offense. Wake up and smell the coffee buddy. Tech is a good school but it’s no better than Stanford or NDame etc.

How is Stanford more academically challenging then GT? People seem to assume that the quality of a school and the difficulty of a school are the same thing for some reason. Plus you should really look at Stanford’s football record over the last 20 years if you think they are somehow some elite program.

yesterday!! 2 of the top 10!!!!!!

Fired? You may be retarded. Have you seen our recruiting class this year? Have you seen the last 5-10? We’ve got 2 committed but we will land another 2. We’re getting M Adams and Kamara. 4 out of 10 isn’t bad when you’ve got 6 other schools coming into your state. Richt has done a great job of closing the borders of GA. You can’t get them all when Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, SCarolina and Clemson are within 300 miles of GA. We didn’t get Nkemdiche because we didn’t offer his brother 2 years ago. We didn’t offer the kid because his grades sucked and the coaches didn’t think he would qualify. In the end he didn’t qualify and landed at a JUCO. Auburn clearly payed Reuben Foster. He had a $500 Tattoo the day after he committed. Theyve had a history of paying playuers to come there and are currently under investigation for it.

On top of that last year we got the #2 player in Florida with JohnTheus and this year the #1 player in Florida has us as his favorite. His name is Laremy Tunsil. He has Bama #2 on his list. Based on your logic, maybe Bama should fire their recruiting coordinator. Even Alabam doesnt always get their man. They missed on Reuben Foster. He is currently the number 1 player in Alabama. He shouldn’t even be on this list. He moved to Alabama last year. Not a GA resident anymore. In my opinion that would be ludicrous.

We’ve had top 10 class after top 10 class. We pretty much get the pick of what we want in the state of GA year in and year out. We miss on some but Again there is no way you can land them all. Every school misses on some recruits. If there’s a QB out there that we want, we get him 9 out of 10 times. We pulled Stafford from Texas because he wanted to plaqy for Richt and Bobo. I’d say that payed off for him. Pretty good recruiting huh? We shouldnt fire our recruiting coordinator. We need to give him a raise. You clearly do not follow recruiting. You obviously just read this brief article today and based your entire opinion of GA recruitng on it. Just another AJC clown
