The latest on the rumors about former UGA target JaQuay Williams

JaQuay Williams signed with Auburn last February after flirting with UGA at the last minute (AJC)

JaQuay Williams signed with Auburn last February after flirting with UGA at the last minute (AJC)

There’s a lot of speculation surrounding JaQuay Williams, who was the state’s No. 1 prospect at wide receiver last year and signed with Auburn over UGA.

Williams, who fell short of meeting NCAA entrance requirements, is spending this fall at Virginia’s Fork Union prep school.

He’s a free agent to sign with any college but has publicly maintained his intentions to sign again with Auburn.

However, due to Auburn’s tough season and hot-seat rumors about Gene Chizik, there has been speculation for weeks that Williams might be thinking about de-committing from the Tigers.

There was even one published report by a recruiting website on Monday (since removed) that Williams had officially re-opened his recruiting — which ignited a flood of phone calls to his high school coach, Sandy Creek’s Chip Walker.

“I got calls from everybody, all the recruiting services and things, wanting to know if he had de-committed,” Walker said. “I was like ‘Naw, he hasn’t de-committed.’

“He’s still committed to Auburn. Well, let me put it this way: He has not de-committed, to my knowledge. I will be honest with you: I have not talked to him since last week. It’s one of them things at Fork Union where he’s (not allowed) to have his cell phone with him all the time. I don’t have a direct line to him.

“But until JaQuay tells me something differently, that’s what I know. There’s all kind of rumors out there about everything because Auburn hasn’t won as many games as people wanted them to this season.”

Walker, who has one player on his current roster committed to UGA (DB Shaq Wiggins), said he has not had any recent conversations with the Bulldog coaches about JaQuay.

KIds have to be stupid to sign with Auburn. The whole program is a dumpster fire. Trooper and Looper are already restricted to campus only recruiting. The head coach is looking for a new job. The NCAA is in town and turning over rocks.

Could the last player or coach leaving Auburn turn out the lights?

My, my, my! How the once “momentarily mighty” Auburn Tigers have fallen!

I think Murray is still pissed enough to hang another 45 on them this year.

The kid will take the option that is most attractive to him and offers him the best chance at playing on Sundays. Unless Auburn finds a reliable QB, for the next couple of years, it will not be them. UGA is pretty much settled at QB for the next few years, so it all depends on where this kid wants to go, to get the most passes thrown his way.

He would be a nice addition to the dogs roster; if he can mature enough to get his academic responsibilities on track. I have seen video of the kid, and there is no doubt about his football playing potential at the next level. He has Tavarres King speed with better hands; catches the ball agressively; very good on fly patterns or in traffic. Don’t know his personality traits; but if he could handle himself with class off the field and be an unselfish teammate, he would be a tremendous value add to the team.

It seems that AU gave it their best shot. But if Williams believes that these rumors are true, he will pick a new school before scholarships run out or that position has been filled.

Programs go in cycles ……. believe me. There will be opportunity at Auburn and players recognize that.

After our former corrupt staff screwed over Alabama – it is humbling to be down. I hope one day, all of the cheating going on with Auburn, the Rev. Newton, etc. will come out – not that it matters now – because 0-8 in the SEC this year is the payback! Now, if they can only keep Chizik one more year!

Guys – we will have our hands full with Texas A&M. There was a lot of emotional energy spent at LSU – and TAMU could be a trap game. TAMU has nothing to lose and man o man – they are fun to watch. Very much improved when compared to where they were at the start of the season.

As for UGA – guys – hope the Dawgs when by 50.
Auburn will probably be a stubborn opponent due the rivalry, the AU D-staff connections with UGA, etc.

I’ve said it before – UGA is probably by second favorite team in the SEC. Just tons of respect for Dooley and the man that Richt is. That is why I criticize the staff and UGA for excepting mediocrity ……… UGA should be one of college footballs crown jewels – beautiful stadium, campus, facilities, Athens is a cool place – in the hotbed area for recruiting. No excuses – a rebuild year for UGA should be and 8 or 9 win season – every 5 years or so.

At any rate – good luck this weekend.

Dawgs need to lock down another top notch O-Line and D-Line – and 1 RB.

Tunsil will wind up a Alabama.

Anyone else hear that a Tennessee alumni investment group has stepped up to the plate and approached the AD to buy out Dooley – and go after Gruden for a reported $6MM/year – 5 year contract?

Tennessee needs a coach that will recruit Nationally. High school football is not deep in the Vol state. Kiffin is a heck of a national recruiter – and would have done well there. Gruden will give the program positive headlines and the sports media will follow him around licking his boots like the national media does OBAMA. Although, I like Gruden :) !

I would advise him to open up his options if he were one of my players, or if he were my son. Auburn is a dumpster fire, and it’s probably not changing for a year or two. If Chizick stays, more of the same things that have gone on the last 2 years. If he’s fired, it will take a new regime a couple of seasons to be competitive…….Either way, there’s not going to be any championships for the Plainsmen / Tigers/ War Damn Eagles for a while.

So What. You guys had A.J. Greene and lost to Colorado. It’s your offensive line. You go to Columbia, South Carolina and face the Gamecocks Front 7 with a 5′11″ 270 offensive center from a private school league. A true freshman right tackle from a private school league. and top that off with a walkon fullback from a private school league, and you, naturally, get it handed to you! It’s your offensive line. With a modicom of foresight and effort you could have gone into that game with Chance Warmack at left guard, Chris Burnette at center, and JuJuan James at right tackle. No way the Cocks beat you 35 to 7. No way. And the sad thing is, is that it knocked you out of the National Title picture. And for years to come. Y’all are going to lose, in no particular order : John Jenkins, Kwame Geathers, Abry Jones, Cornelious Washington, Jarvis Jones, Brandon Smith,Sanders Commings,Shawn Williams, and Baccari Rambo.Jeepers. And LSU, with their phenom Freshman ANTHONY JENNINGS at QB rolls back on your schedule, along with Clemson! This was the year Dawg fans, and Richt and Bobo decide take that offensive line and fullback to Columbia! No wonder it’s been 32 years. Looks like it’s gonna be another 32! Jeepers

You lose that caliber of personnel on defense. LSU rolls back on your schedule next year. So naturally Richt and Bobo stand by while Les Miles lands the best dual threat QB in America, Marietta’s Anthony Jennings. A UGA legacy and lifetime DAWG fan. Not anymore. The kid is 6′2″ 215 with room to grow. Strong as an ox. and with a cannon for an arm. He’s gonna go straight at Chase Vasser next year. Do it Richt. Do it Booboo. And do it Dawgs! Un friggin believable!

Turd Roll,

We, dawg fans, don’t need you to point out our flaws. You should probably be worried about your own teams flaws (Like making Mettenberger look like an All-Pro quarterback when he isn’t). You should also be worried about the ole Saban dancing on out of Tuscaloosa for the NFL. You will not always have the success that you are currently enjoying. Just like USC, Florida, Nebraska, Florida State, and all others, Alabama will fall back down to earth and it will hurt like hell. Roll Tide with Pride had it pegged when he said “Programs go in cycles.”

That being said, we know the dawgs have some flaws but you better watch out because they are starting to put it together and if they show up in the Dome (got to make it first) then Bama will get a fight to the very end. I truly believe that the Dawgs are better than LSU and will give Bama all they want and possibly beat them.

Good luck this weekend with A&M and hopefully we will see you in the dome Turd Roll.

Go Dawgs!

Roll Tide w/ Pride – thanks for the classy post. We all have our lunatic fans so its good to see “the good guys” come out sometimes.
Not trying to turn this into a lovfest (besides, assuming we both win out we will hate each others guts for a week as we get ready to knock heads) but I always liked Bama and they way you run your program. It reminds me of how coach Dooley ran Georgia (but better) – fundamentally sound, dont beat yourself – make the other team beat you, disciplined (unfortunately all the things we seem to be missing lately). Plus I love physical smash mouth football. I understand the need to be explosive, creative, etc… and thats great too. However there always comes a time where you need to just tighten your chinstrap, knock the *&%^&$# out of someone and ram the ball down their throat. It takes a mindset to be good at this and if you dont do it often you dont develop that instinct and toughness.
Our possible upcoming game – if we play like we did against UF (minus the turnovers and penalties) we can give you a game. If we do the stupid mistakes we seem to be known for recently, we’re toast. We got away with it against UF, we wont get away with it against Bama.
Now, as far as our potential upcoming game

How would’ve this offensive line looked? LT Kenarious Gates, LG Chance Warmack, Center Chris Burnette, RG Mark Beard, RT JuJuan James. All Georgia born and Georgia bred! You would have handled S. Caroilina and won a BCS National Title for the 1st time in over 30 years! But nooooo. Y’all have to do it the GEORGIA WAY, and toss a few private schoolers in there. But that’s not enough, let’s go with a private school WALKON at fullback. That one’s on Coach Booboo. He discovered the kid playing 5th string linebacker and incredibly, inserts him as your starting fullback! On to Columbia ! You have to start wondering if the guy’s sabotaging your program to protect Dooley’s legacy. After all, he’s married to Barb Dooley’s neice. Talk about a conflict of interest, and Richt and your Athletic Board allow it to continue! Anyway, with your defensive losses next year, coupled with the offensive line Richt and bobo have created, ya’ll are on a sinking ship. Y’all are cruising on the damn Titanic.32 years and it’s going to be another 32. Guarauuuunteed.

Re JaQuay Williams
Flo @10:39 – I don’t know where you got the notion he wasn’t pursued. Georgia pursued him very hard. He made an offical, many thought the Dawgs had him, incl the Georgia staff. He was recruited, offered.

As for his academics, if he is NCAA eligible he most certainly would be admitted to Georgia. I don’t know where some of you come up with this idea that academic admissions for athletes at Georgia are “tougher” than at other schools in the SEC and ACC, that suggestion is simply not correct. You sound like GT supporters who claim they can’t recruit due to strict entrance requirements for athletes – baloney, ain’t so in Athens nor on North Ave.

Or would you rather lose but have a certain type of player out there. I think it’s the latter but y’all will never admit it. @2:34 this is the truth

If ignorance is bliss, you are one happy person.

Fork and Spoon Union as you call it, known in the real world as Fork Union Military Academy, was founded in the late 1800’s and is one of the nation’s oldest and finest military prep schools. Fork Union is not some start up school specializing in handing out grades to athletes. In the case of JWilliams, I seem to recall he was one credit short of the mandatory 16 required by the NCAA. By all accounts I’ve heard he had a qualifying SAT score and CORE GPA, but unfortunately was one credit short. You may recall he transferred from Heard Co HS to Sandy Creek for his Senior year. Perhaps one of his credits wasn’t accepted by the NCAA as a Core curriculum class due to the transfer. In any event, hopefully he can take care of the Core class and enroll in school in Jan and have a nice career.

Mettenberger will play ahead of Jennings next year. Jennings will never play at LSU because of Jordan Jefferson burning Miles. Jennings needs to go to Grambling or southern to get some actual PT. Otherwise he sits on the sideline.

Jefferson did burn Miles. Jennings is not D-1 QB. He can play at Grambling or Southern
