Tyren Jones: Alabama RB commit suffers knee injury (UPDATED)

Alabama RB commit Tyren Jones (AJC)

Alabama RB commit Tyren Jones (AJC)

Running back Tyren Jones, who has committed to Alabama, was diagnosed with Grade 1 MCL knee injury on Saturday and will miss at least two weeks.

The 5-foot-8, 192-pound Jones suffered the injury in the first half of Walton High School’s win over Etowah on Friday.

“It was one of those things where he got wrapped up in a pile with everybody else, and he just came down kind of funny,” Walton coach Rocky Hidalgo told the AJC on Saturday.

Jones, who is the leading rusher in the state’s largest classification, underwent an MRI on Saturday morning. The good news is that Jones could be back in two weeks, although he might be out longer depending on how he responds to treatment.

“Tyren is a great kid,” Hidalgo said. “Even though he got hurt, he was excited that we won, and was cheering on the other players. When DJ Smith broke the long run later in the game, Tyren was screaming ‘I taught him that move, I taught him that move.’

“Tyren has a great attitude, and he wants to be back on the field and help us win games. He was upbeat when I talked to him this morning. He said there wasn’t a lot of swelling with the knee, and that he had a full range of motion. So he’s really upbeat about everything.”

Jones, who is considered by some to be the state’s No. 1 prospect at running back, committed to Alabama over UGA. Jones has said he plans to visit some other schools, including UGA.

Walton’s coach said on Saturday that he hasn’t heard yet from Nick Saban or Alabama’s coaches yet about Jones. “They’ve got their hands full with LSU; they’ve got a lot going on with the season, and I don’t expect to hear from them anytime soon.”

Everybody loves you when you win … I hope Satan, I mean Saban does;t pull your scholly now that you’re hurt — he has a tendency to do that.

It’s a good thing this young man was already looking around at other possible options. If history is any indication Nick Saban will pull the scholarship offer if the injury is at all serious. Hope everything works out for Mr. Jones.

If Saban doesn’t take back the contract then forcing Tyren to Gray Shirt is just about guaranteed. He can come to Bama in January 2014.

Best of luck, Tyren – hope the results of MRI are favorable and you will leading your Raiders in the Playoffs over the next few weeks ! Once you complete your Walton career then you and Coach Saban will sit down and discuss the best course for your future at Bama -

Time for some new material boys.
The wise-crack was funny the first 100 times.

Justin Taylor wasn’t good enough to play for Bama.
It had nothing to do with his injury.

Hey 75, It’s still funny and always will be, because it’s fact. And if he wasn’t good enough, why the committable offer from the one with the Napoleon complex?

Why can’t Bama fans just admit Saban is a putz and be done with it? Why even try to defend it…they’re getting what they want, so just revel in it.

When you’re stupid with your scholarships, you make bad decisions. When you make bad decisions, you have no depth. When you have no depth, you lose to mediocre teams. When you lose to mediocre teams, you’re called Richt. Don’t be Richt, be smart like Saban and win championships.

Yes, you won the Saban lottery a few years ago, and it has paid off for you. But just know that when he tires of you and moves on to his next conquest, you will suck and be looking up at auburn like you were before he came there.

I hope Georgia runs the table in the regular season just to get their eyes beat out by the TIDE! I get so tired of hearing the cheap shots about Justin Taylor. If Taylor would have taken what Saban gave him he would be on capus this January doing off-season conditioning, he made his choice and he’s happy!

Big Crimson, so the kid wasn’t good enough to play for Bama? If that is true, then why did Bama offer him and then accept his committment? Why didn’t someone at Bama tell him to move on before his injury? And what about the tackle from Alabama, longtime Bama commit, didn’t take a visit, as solid to Bama as he could be, hurt his knee, told Bama had no room and signed with a school he hadn’t even seen? Bama may keep Jones, it isn’t a major injury, or at least not a tear, but don’t come on here acting like Saban and Bama didn’t cut two kids loose last year because they got hurt.

As for Justin Taylor. His scholly was NEVER rescinded. He was asked to delay enrollment SIX months to recover from knee surgery. Thats right six months. Unlike Kelsi Griffin who had his scholarship offer REVOKED by JAWJA after he committed on television in front of friends and family. Completely humiliating the young man. Silly mutts… Get yo facts right.

gasblast… Look here milk dud… It matters not that his commitment wasn’t excepted. He had an offer and was allowed to embarrass himself on television. Richt then pulled that offer cause he has over signed this year. Richt should be ashamed. Saban has never pulled an offer. I challenge u or any of your mutt friends to post a link that says otherwise.

Per the AJC:

“Taylor committed to the Crimson Tide around a year ago, but was informed by Nick Saban in January that he couldn’t sign this year. Saban said it was because of Taylor’s knee injury that cut short his senior season, asking him to enroll NEXT JANUARY”.
