No. 2 recruit picks Georgia Tech over Tennessee and UGA

Georgia Tech has landed the most celebrated recruit in history of the women’s basketball program.

Kaela Davis, the daughter of former NBA All-Star Antonio Davis, committed to Georgia Tech over Tennessee and UGA, among others.

The 6-foot-2 Davis is a guard from Buford High School and ranked as the nation’s No. 2 overall prospect by ESPNU.

“For Kaela being a Georgia girl and staying in the state, I think that’s a great thing,” Buford coach Gene Durden told the AJC. “No doubt about it, Kaela is an impact player. I think she will do really well for Georgia Tech.”

Davis originally committed to Tennessee, but decided to reopen her recruiting after the sudden retirement of Volunteers coach Pat Summitt. Georgia Tech beat out some of the biggest names in college basketball for Davis.

“From talking with Kaela, it was a combination of the program, the academics, and also wanting to go to a program where she thought she could make a huge impact,” Durden said.

“There’s no doubt, Kaela Davis is definitely a talented kid who could come in at any program at any level and being able to help out right away.”

As a freshman, Davis helped Norcross win the Class AAAAA state championship. As a sophomore, she transferred to Buford and helped them win a Class AA title. Last year, Buford finished as a state runner-up, with Davis averaging 18 points.

T, it’s people like you that make us look bad. Michelle Joseph has done more with less than any coach in Tech’s history IMHO. I don’t even know what to say. Go root for another team please. And if you are another team’s fan, shame on you.

That’s good news for Tech. I’m glad Ms Davis decided to stay to home to represent her state. I hope more 5 stars will follow.

Yeah, I heard UGA was backing off on her too. They knew they couldn’t get her because she was headed to Tech! Andy Landers program is losing players like this because they never go past the first round in teh NCAA. Good, but never great. In the meantime, Tech is #22, and a program on the rise. We didn’t start women’s athletics until the early 80s and have had some catching up to do, but we are in great shape now. I hear Kaela is a great young lady, welcome to the ACC and Tech. Go Jackets!

Coach Joseph has done an outstanding job since arriving at Tech. Apparently the word is out, because each year’s recruiting class seems to be better than the one before. I believe each team for at least the last three years has set a new record for most wins by a graduating class. Last year’s team established a new level of achievement with its regular season conference performance, its ACC tournament performance, and its NCAA tournament performance. I can’t wait to see what new heights we’ll achieve this season with the best recruiting class in school history. I look forward to seeing Kaela take her place next year too!

Fascinating that the Tech haters show up here to trash a great young lady and her commitment to Tech. Tell you what, when you can beat us consistently in basketball and baseball, then you can crow about your vaunted program. Right now, we took five of the last six baseball games and our worst basketball team in years took apart your second tier little group. By the way, it is just going to get worse for you. We’ll turn the football around. Guess it gives people with such shallow lives a little pleasure to trash their rival team. Welcome to Tech Kaela, based on the idiot hater posts here, it should be obvious this was the right decision!

For those that said UGA backed off on this girl must be smoking crack, and is an idiot. UGA would love to have her. She’s a player.

She ditched UGA for one simple reason: she didn’t want to play with the illiterate low class bimbos who go to UGA.

A very smart move by a classy young lady.

Hello Me… Actually hoops is a sport that really matters, if you take a look at march maddness, it ranks ahead of any college football game or games at any time during the season… That goes for bowl games also. Nuff said!! You were prolly that kid that was picked on for eating ice cream in school and was fat and in the band…. Non athletic twerp… Lol

Andy Landers time passed a long time ago. He needs to gracefully retire. But he won’t, and UGA will continue to be a second rate program. What a waste.
