AJ Jackson clears up “misunderstanding” with Auburn

AJ Jackson, one of the state’s top prospects at tight end, learned a valuable lesson over the weekend: Don’t believe everything you hear in the wacky world of recruiting.

Another day, another rumor about 1-6 Auburn (AP)

Another day, another rumor about 1-6 Auburn (AP)

The 6-foot-6, 240-pounder from Lovejoy High School de-committed from Auburn on Friday morning, only to call it a “misunderstanding” later that evening.

“I’m still committed to Auburn; it’s all good,” Jackson told the AJC on Sunday. “I feel good about how everything was handled with this situation. I still like Auburn.”

Here’s what happened: Jackson had heard rumors for a week from other recruits, a student at Auburn, and a parent of one of his Lovejoy teammates that he had “lost” his scholarship at Auburn due to grades.

Even though Jackson had not spoken directly with Auburn’s coaches, Jackson was convinced enough by his sources that he de-committed to the Tigers.

Then he spoke directly a few hours later to Auburn’s coaches, master recruiter Trooper Taylor and head coach Gene Chizik.

“I got a call from Coach Trooper, and he confirmed it wasn’t true,” Jackson told the AJC. “He said I was still one of their main targets, that they still have high interest in me, and they don’t want me to go anywhere else. He said don’t listen to the rumors, stick with us, and if I have any problems to call and we’ll talk about it.

“Coach Chizik basically said the same things, but in a different way. He said he would love to have me as a kid and an athlete. He said he would never take my scholarship away.”

Jackson said he has a 2.7 GPA and will take the ACT this weekend.

What about Auburn’s first 1-6 start in 60 years? “It’s not a good start, and everybody knows that. I’m disappointed, but at the same time I’m glad I can go there next year and help them get things turned back around.”

While Jackson remains committed to Auburn, he still plans to definitely take an official visit to Florida State and may also tour Tennessee, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

Forget talking to Trooper or Chizik. Ask the AD if you can call next years coach. Theres just no way that this staff weathers this storm…

As a UGA fan, I still cannot figure out if it would be worth it for us to buy a championship like Auburn did, knowing that it would cost us years of being terrible, or if I would like to continue being mediocre every year and trying to do things the right way. Unfortunately it is the conundrum of college football.

When I read the rumor that Auburn was going to lose a recruit to his grades I had to check and see if I was in a Twilight Zone episode. Fortunately, Trooper swooped in to the rescue with his liquid paper and pen to help clear up any transcript irregularities.

Who would want to go play for Auburn?

The game with Auburn might be a watch out game, if UGA gets a beat down this weekend. They might not focus for the other games– Auburn just might surprise them– heck Kentucky sure did.

“Who would want to go play for Auburn?”

Yeah, he could go to UGA where he’d lose to every top ranked team and not win a bowl game.

As bad as AU is this year, they still have 2 undefeated seasons in a decade and an NC. The BCS era is coming to an end. All the traditional powers managed to win an NC, except one…anyone? anyone?…yep, the good ole UGA Dawgs.

For all of the fretting that is going on by all of my fellow UGA fans, has anyone stopped to think that Aubie is only a play or so away from being 0-7. For all of our fretting about our coach, look at Cheezit’s record with Scam.

how about lets look at UGAGs record without #34 a million years ago. You have a meaningless lower tier SEC program who hasn’t won crap and never will. Enjoy Orlando or Tampa again. I’d rather stay home.

He needs to know Chizik won’t be the coach next year, moron for even considering Auburn unless it is the best he can do with the weak intellect

UGA hasn’t had a great team since Jimmy Carter left office. Without Herschell, Dooley would not have a national title. Without Auburn, UGA would not have Dooley as a coach.

The current state of Auburn’s football program should be the least of the recruit concerns. He need to focus on turning his grades around otherwise he will not be anywhere near their campus or any other college.

Roll Tide,by the way. People wanna judge Chiz minus Cam. F### it,he had Cam. Anyhow Auburn’s isn’t that great at player developement. UGA isn’t that much better and u will see next year as they can’t dodge the tough schedule. It don’t matter, both Dawgs and Tigers are lightyears away from contention in the SEC. Both programs will be left behind by the Bama’s,LSU’s,Mississippi State,Florida,SCarolina, and Texas A&M. Get used to 8-9 win seasons. Haaaaa,Roll Tide.

I didn’t know there was such a thing as losing a scholly at Auburn due to bad grades. I mean, Good God, didn’t James Brooks graduate from there despite barely being able to read and write his own name? Can’t you still drive down the street in Auburn and have a diploma land in your car if the windows are rolled down? It’s all good, though. Any time I see an Auburn man with his shoes tied and his fly zipped up, I know he’s diong the very best he can.

Give the kid a break. Its probably one of his jealous coaches who leaked his grade situation. From what I understand they wanted him to commit to UVA or jacksonville st this past summer. Hell they are not even throwing to the kid. In the end the kid is gonna get shafted.

I hate the sec… They all run dirty programs, but they lie their way out of it just like the scamster himself and the whole school did. SEC is full of inbreed hillbillies and toothless shifty characters…..
