Missy Franklin: Cal beats out UGA and Texas for Olympics sensation

One of the biggest stars of the 2012 Olympics has picked a college.

Missy Franklin, who won five swimming medals at the London Olympics, committed to Cal over UGA and Texas.

“Committed to swim at Cal Berkeley!” Franklin wrote on Twitter. “I am officially a baby Golden Bear. I am so honored to part of such a special team! #GoBears.”

Franklin took visits to all three of her finalists, according to the AP. Cal is coached by Teri McKeever, who guided the U.S. women’s swim team in London.

Probably the biggest surprise was Franklin even choosing a college. She stands to lose millions of dollars in endorsement deals by attending college rather than turning professional this year. Franklin only plans to swim in college for two years, according to Swimming World.

Has she ever heard of striking while the iron is hot? Go make a few million in endorsements…college isn’t going anywhere. Who the heck is giving her advice???

Another whiff on the recruiting scene. Looks like Coach Garner has taken over recruiting duties for the swim team, too.

You can make more money as a QB at Auburn than as a swimming pro.

Missy made the right decision. Once you turn pro, you can never turn back to being an amateur again. Enjoy the ride.

I wish you well, Missy. Would much rather see you as a ‘Dog, but good luck in California. Please keep that lovely smile and class act you’ve displayed since this past summer.

as if UGA was ever really in the running against great universities like Cal and Texas….like having to choose between, Harvard, Yale, and Dalton State.

Yeah, she was just a 3 star. UGA is targeting a lot of higher ranked kids. LOL!

Molar, Texas is not a great university the likes of Cal. Georgia is definitely in the same league as Texas. Not in the same league as Cal.

I guess she doesn’t want to be a Drunk Fake Blonde SWIMMER at the Girls College & Plantation of Georgia.

Georgia didn’t want her anyway. They showed her the depth chart and she was scared to compete.
Let her go to Cal. They stink and she’ll never amount to anything swimming there. She couldn’t handle SEC swimming speed. I doubt she would’ve even made the roster in Athens. There’s another swimmer the uga coaches like better anyway Okay poodles, did I miss any other potential excuses?
