Some of Atlanta’s college football prospects will be writing a weekly diary for the AJC until February’s signing day. They will be sharing their thoughts, opinions, adventures and perspectives on the recruiting journey.
Rashard Fant is considered one of the state’s top sleeper prospects. He has been overlooked by many colleges because he attends the small private school of Our Lady of Mercy. However, he has impressed enough as an “athlete” to earn early college football scholarship offers from Florida State, Utah, Ole Miss and Kentucky, among others. Many other colleges will be evaluating him as a senior.
My top five schools as of today are Indiana, Florida State, Western Kentucky, Utah, and Penn.
Indiana offered me about a month ago. They are recruiting me primarily as a corner; however, the opportunity to play on the offensive side of the ball as well as return kicks has been mentioned.
Florida State offered me this past May during spring ball. Initially, FSU was just recruiting me as a receiver; however, after talking to my recruiting coordinator, Coach Craig, he informed me that Coach Stoops wants me at defensive back as well.
Western Kentucky was the first school to offer me a football scholarship, and the first school to believe that I had the talent to play at the next level. They are recruiting me as an athlete.
Utah offered me in the early part of the summer. Utah is primarily looking at me as a cornerback; however, after talking with Coach Whittingham, he informed me that I can play some offense as well.
Lastly, The University of Penn, they contacted me in late May and I really enjoyed talking with them. The academics are the main reason why I am so interested in them. However, I will also have the opportunity to be part of a very good football program. The University of Penn has been recruiting me as an athlete.
I really like the fact that all five of these schools are not limiting me to just playing one position, but taking advantage of the fact that I can play both sides of the ball and return kicks. This is a key factor as to why these schools are my top five.
I plan on taking all five of my official visits, and as of now I am in the process of scheduling a few of them. My first visit will probably be to The University of Utah during the first week of November when they play Washington State. My second visit will most likely be to Florida State. I am planning to visit during the week they play Florida. My third visit will be to Indiana during the first or second week in December. I will attend a basketball game, and hang with the players, coaches, and a few other recruits.
As I mentioned, I want to take all five of my official visits, however, I have not decided on my last two visits.
As of right now, I do not have an exact timetable for when I will commit. I plan on taking a few visits and then talking it over with my family, and then decide. I am not in a huge rush to make a decision, but I would like to decide within the next month or two.
I just want to make the best decision for me, as once I commit, I plan to be committed 100%.
