UGA loses another top football recruit

Ex-UGA WR commit Demarre Kitt

Ex-UGA WR commit Demarre Kitt

UGA lost one WR commitment on Thursday, and may be in danger of losing another one in the future.

Demarre Kitt, a junior from Sandy Creek High School, backed off his pledge to UGA on Thursday. He had been committed to the Bulldogs since last April. Kitt is considered one of the state’s top juniors, ranked as the nation’s No. 127 overall junior by 247sports.com.

“I think I committed too early; Clemson and USC are still recruiting me hard, and I still want to give them a fair chance,” Kitt told the AJC.

The 6-foot, 190-pounder said he called to inform UGA wide receivers coach Tony Ball. “Yes, I talked to Coach Ball. He just said he understands and still wants to recruit me. He understands that I made a quick decision to commit based off emotion.”

If it’s any consolation, UGA is now listed in Kitt’s top three, along with Clemson and USC.

Kitt has not sit a timeline for his final decision. “I don’t know for sure. But I know the next time I make a decision it will be for sure. I will really know where I want to go for sure.”

Because Kitt is just a junior, his situation is nowhere near the priority status for UGA as WR Tramel Terry, who has already committed twice to the Bulldogs.

The 4-star from South Carolina’s Goose Creek High School quietly made an official visit to Clemson last weekend, which created speculation that he made switch his commitment for a third time.

“It wouldn’t surprise me,” Goose Creek coach Chuck Reedy told a reporter. Click here read more.

UGA has now lost four recruits over the last few months – 5-star RB Derrick Henry (now committed to Alabama), OL Trenton Brown (undecided), WR Kyrin Priester (NC State) and Kitt. Also, DT Kelsey Griffin publicly committed to UGA three weeks ago and had it rejected by the Bulldogs later that day. He pledged to South Carolina on Tuesday.

I want to thank Mark Richt and Catherine for stopping the kissing on the mouth before a kickoff.
I appreciate them considering the people that have to watch it. I could be wrong, but I think Mark
looks for the TV camera before he does the smootching.

At least you close the doors and shades before you kiss your dogs butt. But lay off the hand job for him, it’s illegal.

Georgia is a sinking ship. With the state of the program right now, I couldn’t recommend anybody to go there.

Short and (not so) sweet, that’s about the way most of the more observant high school players are going to see it. There are far better schools both athletically and scholastically.

Did the UGA vets ever cure Russ of his worm infestation? That was really nasty. Maybe the recruits are worried about getting worms at Georgia.

Anyone else want off of the UGA train? After Saturday night’s embarrassment in Columbia, some recruits see that this coaching staff cannot prepare a talented team for battle against top-tier competition.

That pitiful performance on Saturday is having repercussions. Recruits are also picking up on the Dawg nation vibe. They’ve finally had their fill of CMR.

Thought this article was about our Dawgs? Why all the mention of GT fans and whether they’re posting as trolls or not? I could give a rip less since this is our blog. It makes us look actually ‘worried’ about GT and they are NOT worth that. The kid backed off, big deal! I probably would’ve too after watching our less than inspired performance last weekend. But now is the time for CMR and his whole staff to once again, FIX THE ISSUES, WIN OUT, GET TO ATLANTA, and watch as he and even better recruits beg for the opportunity to commit. Enough with the finger pointing, good luck to the kid, we’ll see you again SOON.

Wow! A high school junior changing his mind?? Why is this news worthy and why do we refer to any of them as “commits”?? There is no such thing at this stage of the recruiting cycle. A kid is “committed” when he signs the LOI. Anything before that is nothing more than speculation and/or wishful thinking based on perceived interest at the time.

I am surprised it has taken this long for Richt, Bobo and Grantham’s inept coaching to affect recruiting. This is the now, finally the end of R-B-G. Regrettably, it has taken far too long for McGarity and Adams to realize what most of us knew at least three years ago.

decommits happen I am more worried about the talent we have and the evaluation that’s going on in athens. why is it that our defensive line get slow and frumpy looking when they get on campus? example stephon tuitt weighs three hundred pounds and is quick and athletic, garrison smith and avery jones can’t run more than five yards. why is players like chase thomas looking like a future nfl player and ray drew looking like he will be passed by from in coming freshmen. how come this years best defensive linemen and linebackers are going out of state. I thought out strength and conditions was supposed to be better, but rodany garner and that defensive line is a joke. giving qbs five seconds to throw the ball…uga needs real talent evaluators not people who clueless about what they are doing. the players take on the personality of their coach..we need some who is tough and demands nothing less the perfection and someone who can maximize talent. Chris Peterson…….maybe

I hope that most adults don’t really care what a sixteen year old does unless you are his parents. A 2014 recruit shouldn’t even be allowed to commit or be recruited . If Georgia losing one or two games in a year has any negative affect on our commits do real Dawg fans really want that recruit coming to Georgia. You either want to be a Dawg or not and a recruit should fill privileged if Georgia offers you a scholarship. If they do not then Georgia is not the school you need to attend. Knowing that Georgia is one of the top schools in the nation for getting their players an opportunity to play Pro ball should be enough.

Dekalb Dawg you nailed it. The only disturbing thing is why cant Greg Mcgarity see the Bulldogs program have a seious problem.. It does not make any sense that Georgia can not keep its talented kids in the sates. Clemcon, South Carolina and Alabama are all National Contenders lrgely due to the amount of talent thyey are taking fro the state of Georgia. South Carolina lost to LSU last night but the games was competitive. If that was Gerogia playng LSU the game would have been over midwau through the first quarter. And by the way Coach Grantham, SC and LSU defensive Coordinators showed you how defensive coordinators are suppoed to prepare a defense to play.

Doesn’t matter which recruit does or doesn’t commit. UGA coaches have to start coaching up kids and executing solid game plans. On Saturdays we see continuing evidence of UGA getting out-coached and out-played by teams with less talent. Look at the number of UGA players at the NFL level. Why doesn’t that translate to wins while at UGA? Coaching is the only answer. Case in point, SC vs. UGA last weekend. If UGA intends to move forward as a national power they will need to go out and get a top tier coaching staff that is able to coach-up their players and produce game plans while making in-game adjustments.

CMR’s winning record is in the top 5 of active coaches, having won 74% of his games. He won two SEC Championship titles, four Eastern Division titles, and taken us to 11 straight bowl games. CMR is one of only 7 men in Division 1A history to record 102 or more wins in his first 11 seasons as head coach. Admittedly, we played a poor game against S. Carolina, but it happens. Examples: #13 Oklahoma drilled #15 Texas 63-21, FSU (top 5 team) defeated by NC St., Texas Tech manhandled #5 West Va., GT getting embarrassed by Middle Tennessee, etc. It Happens! I’m all dawg, win or lose.

As you can tell by the on going comments, UGA fans are tired of the incompetence of this staff…my thoughts…1) Need to replace Dave VanHalanger as Director of Player Development…led nation in arrests, suspensions, transfers and now de-commits since he left as S&C Coach several years ago…could not succeed in that role either 2) Look into replacing J Tereshinski as S&C Coach…SC overpowered UGA on the line of scrimmage….let’s see what Florida does…if it happens again like SC, then time time to find more than a video guy 3) Need to replace Rodney Garner as Recruiting Coordinator…he has gotten too complacent…lost out on too many great in-state players…not working at a high level 4) Need to move Mike Bobo to QB Coach and not OC…not enough imagination…chokes during big games…same old Bobo 5) Need to replace Will Friend as OL Coach…pathetic performance against SC,,,under-recruited the position..lost out on too many major black OL…6) On the hot seat…Tony Ball as WR Coach…dropped the ball on JaQuay Williams, Cordelle Patterson, and CJ Curry…probably lost Demarcus Robinson, Tramel Terry, and Demarre Kitt…and now for the CEO of UGA Football, Mark Richt….in the last (5) years your record against winning teams speaks for itself…pitiful…cannot release underperformers on your staff or make the best hires….C’MON MAN…. the top teams in the SEC are outworking you!!
