Robert Nkemdiche, Clemson’s star recruit: “My mom wants me to go to Ole Miss”

Robert Nkemdiche, the nation’s No. 1 prospect, finally spoke about his mother’s recent comments to ESPN The Magazine.

Undisputed No. 1 prospect Robert Nkemdiche (AJC)

And it may not be good news for Clemson.

On Tuesday, Nkemdiche confirmed that he and his family are torn with his college decision. Nkemdiche surprisingly committed to Clemson over the summer, but is still being actively pursued by Ole Miss, where his older brother Denzel is a rising star who was recently named SEC co-Defensive Player of the Week.

Here’s what Nkemdiche told ESPN’s Kipp Adams on Tuesday:

“My recruitment is crazy still and Ole Miss is making a push for me. It does not matter to my dad, but my mom wants me to go to Ole Miss and we are still talking about it, so we have not come to an agreement on it yet.

“It is tugging my heart in two different directions.”

Last month, Nkemdiche’s mother, who resides in Nigeria, caused shockwaves in Clemson when she told ESPN the Magazine:

“His decision is not final. He’s just a teenager, and people are forgetting that. We had never discussed Clemson, and I am unhappy with Clemson. I’m not there, so I don’t know for certain, but I feel like Robert was pressured into this decision.”

Nkemdiche prediction?

On Tuesday, Nkemdiche also told Adams that he intends to visit LSU, although he has not firmed up a date. Nkemdiche also, as expected, confirmed that he will make an unofficial visit to UGA on Nov. 3 for the Ole Miss game.

What are your thoughts? Please post them below. What’s your prediction? Is Clemson in danger of losing Robert Nkemdiche? Will he stick with the Tigers? Or will he flip to Ole Miss?

Nobody, I mean, nobody talks about the mama! Not smart on your part…glad to know their are still children in this world who respect their mamas!

If she left Nigeria at 8AM on Friday before a game in either Oxford, or Clemson, would she be able to tailgate the next day? I bet she’d be tired.

Sounds like his visit to UGA is only to see Ole Miss. Maybe he will be blown away by UGA’s need for pass rushers!

It’s hard to believe that all UGA had to do was sign the older brother (who badly wanted to go to UGA), and they would have both Nkemdiches on D. Terrible recruiting by Coach McClendon. He was over his head anyways.

@County Bumpkin – your screen name fits you appropriately. Clemson has offered JUST 2 teammates schollies – each of them very much deserving of their offers. Crawl out of your trailer on Friday night and come watch Wayne Gallman and David Kamara play. They are worthy of their offers and didn’t their scholarships based on Robert’s verbal commitment. In fact, Gallman has been committed to Clemson since summer of his Jr year. Kamara was offered this summer – before Robert even went on a visit to Clemson. Hop off these kids and get your facts straight.

Like I said before when it came down to Georgia and Tennesee Marlon Brown’s grandmother was the decision maker.Nigerian kids honor their parents and he will go where she wants him to go.Sorry Clemson.

@spencaman – UGA doesn’t need pass rushers they need coaches. 3 years ago, they said we need rushers, we got Jarvis. 2 years ago, they said we need rushers, we got Drew. Last year, they said we need rushers, we got Jordan Jenkins. People please wake up! UGA has talent other coaches would kill for. If you switch the Players around from Saturday’s game and give Spurrier UGA’s roster, UGA probably losses 100 – 0. The natural talent and speed is the only thing that made it somewhat bearable to watch, they got out schemed and people who don’t really know football miss this point all the time. Great coaches don’t get paid a lot of money for nothing.

Robert Nkemdiche is going to Ole Miss, there’s no doubt about it and you Clemson people can cry about it all you want. You can sign every one on Grayson’s 89 player roster and he’s not come to that cow pasture of a town you have. I’m not an Ole Miss fan but the SEC is where’s it’s at. His brother being there sealed the deal. Boo hoo Clemson

One of his teammates and best friends (Wayne Gallman) is a sought after recruit who Clemson was already going after with or without Nkemdiche. So the “hasty offering his buddies” comment is laughable and obviously comes from someone who doesn’t know what they’re talking about (Country Blumpkin).

Nkemdiche is and will be a (Clemson) Tiger.

Rrrrrrrright…

I would hardly call Clemson, which went 10-4 last year, won the conference it was in, has had three straight Top-20 recruiting classes, and is currently ranked 15th in the country a “middling program”. Now, Ole Miss on the other hand…

As for the Mom vs. Recruit drama… this is overblown, and the AJC has been consistently trying to hype this story when there is none to be told. Back in 2006, C.J. Spiller’s mother made public her preference for her son to go to Florida. C.J. stuck with his commitment to Clemson and went on to become arguably the best offensive player in school history. Robert has the same chance to do that for Clemson on the other side of the ball…

First off y’all are way off IT’S THE SEC THEIR IS NO COMPARSION I distinctly remember OLE MISS being ranked number 4 i’n the nation 2 to 3 yrs ago so your comments about ole miss being regular doormats i’n the SEC are wrong period now we have been down the last 2 yrs due to Houston nutt poor decisions as a head coach so please don’t use that excuse ole miss has put plenty of players i’n the league the last 5 yrs And some Dam good ones so get over yourself if & when Robert flips it will never effect his ultimate goal of going to the league plus his brother Denzel has been balling as a starter that can only help HUGH Freeze Is gonna be a good one a good coach & a great Recruter

ole miss has won 2 cotton bowls in last 5 years and would have more if it were not for Nutt. we now have the most of the same recruiters from those cotton bowl teams back and they are hell of lot better coaches than Nutt and co. In case you need a reminder the reigning super bowl MVP is from Ole Miss, the best defensive player in the NFL is from Ole Miss, and a hell of lot more starters in the NFL are from Ole Miss. to Clemson fans its funny that Robert has been to Oxford 5 times that you know about( i have seen him in Oxford three times that were not reported on the sites) and how many Clemson visits. Also the only reason Clemson keeps his high school teammates is that will not want the bad publicity because Saban would pull their offers immediately but of course he wouldnt have offered them to start
