Georgia State picks up two football commitments

Georgia State has picked up a couple of football commitments.

Tevin Jones, a defensive lineman from Luella High School, and safety Rameak Smith of South Carolina’s Woodland High School, both pledged to Georgia State over the weekend.

Georgia State now has eight commitments for its 2013 recruiting class, according to

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Jones picked Georgia State over scholarship offers from UConn, Florida International, Appalachian State and Jacksonville State.

“His mom and dad had a big influence on that decision, and I think being close to home was very, very important so his parents could see him play,” said Luella assistant James Roberts.

“Georgia State is getting an unbelievable football player. He causes chaos. This season, he has 10 solo tackles and 43 overall, including 6.5 tackles for a loss. On Friday, he blocked a kick and scored a touchdown on it. He can use his hands and he can use his speed. He’s a fantastic football player.”

Meanwhile, the 6-2, 190-pound Smith picked Georgia State over Newberry. He made an unofficial visit with the Panthers on Saturday.

“It felt like family; I was very comfortable there,” Smith said. “They have a lot to offer, both on and off the field.”

Bold young men to commit without knowing who their coaches will be. I wish them well.

These young men are coming into a football program that is up and coming, despite the current record. They should get some playing time next season as well as getting a solid education. Welcome aboard guys!

Go State!!

You know, I’ve heard UGA talk trash and actually believe that they are and have always been an elite program. They have never been one of the elite programs. Yea. Walker year was nice but UGA reminds me of Oklahoma in that they always underachieve. The difference is Oklahoma has been an elite program. Georgia never. I find it funny and sad that doggy fans are having a back and forth with my Georgia State. We are just getting started and Georgia is already putting them down. Boy, that S. Carolina loss really got them on defense and bitter. And no, they won’t be in the dome this year.
