Ex-UGA football recruit picks N.C. State after flirting again with Bulldogs

Ex-UGA football recruit Kyrin Priester committed to NC State on Sunday.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound wide receiver from Brookwood High School said he picked NC State over South Carolina, TCU and Vanderbilt.

“My relationship with the NC State coaches sealed the deal,” Priester told the AJC. “Then when I got there this weekend, the atmosphere for the game and everything … everybody being so nice to me, and my family as well, made it even better.”

Priester originally committed to UGA last April and then re-opened his recruiting a few months later because he felt like he had “rushed” his decision.

Last summer, Priester nearly committed to South Carolina after being recruited heavily by assistant Steve Spurrier Jr. “I had a good relationship with Coach Spurrier, but I didn’t really talk to the all the other coaches like I did at NC State. It’s like family there. It was way better this weekend than when I went to the Missouri game at South Carolina.

“At South Carolina, I felt like I only knew Coach Spurrier. With all the other coaches, they didn’t seem to have my best interests for me. I was just another player to them. Well, I’m not going to say I was just another player to them but when I went to NC State, all the coaches got involved with me. Everybody spoke to me, and everybody was cool. At South Carolina, I spoke mostly with just Coach Spurrier.”

Priester also considered committing to UGA for a second time. After being encouraged by his Brookwood teammate who is committed to the Bulldogs, linebacker Shaun McGee, Priester made a surprise unofficial visit to UGA for the Buffalo game. While at the game, Priester said he talked with UGA wide receivers coach Tony Ball, and said at the time: “They told me there was a place for me if that’s where I want to be. Coach Ball said they still need another wide receiver, and if I got serious about Georgia and put them back on the table, I will have a scholarship there.”

After thinking more about it, Priester got serious about UGA. He called a few weeks ago to set up an official visit for the UGA-Tennessee game and found out that the scholarship was gone, or was being saved for somebody else.

“They basically told my mom that they took my scholarship away,” Priester said. “They said I could come to the game and get tickets, but not as an official visit. When they told my mom about the scholarship being taken away, that’s when I knew they weren’t serious about me. It got to me a little bit, but I’m fine because now I’m where I want to be, and that’s NC State.”

Priester moved from the Orlando area to Brookwood after his junior season last March. His best friend, linebacker Jerod Fernandez of Florida’s Lake Mary High School, is also committed to NC State.

This kid had to swallow a bitter pill that he created. Had been committed, changed his mind and lost it. Everyone knows NC State and ACC is far inferior.

The game on Saturday was lost in the trenches. Georgia’s offensive line could not block anyone. Murray never had a chance. Wide receivers were being hit at the line and their pass rush was devastating. I can’t blame the quarterback for this one!

Yep……I agree, the OL lost this one. Anybody blaming Murray simply doesn’t have a clue about football.

Hey kid,
You had a scholarship offer. No one took that scholly from you. You threw it away when you renegged on your commitment. And they gave you a SECOND chance if you would have re-comitted that day. You didn’t.

No one to blame for that but you, son.

The next time one of you mutts addresses me you do it with respect…. I’m a Bama fan for crying out loud. Get humiliated on national tv and you have the gall to talk to a Bama fan like that? That’s redonkulous.

I hope some of these prospects are paying attention to the way jawja fans treat their players. After taking a beating, sweating and bleeding for jawja what can a player expect if he should lose? His house egged and vandalized? What a bunch of classless people. A guy poisoning a tree or dropping his junk on another drunk idiot pales in comparison in my opinion. These kids lay it on the line for UGA and you turn your back on them when they fall short…worse you vandalize their homes. Sad

35-7 complete and total humiliation.

If you think two drunk morons is equal to your fans vandalizing one of your player’s homes because he lost a football game, then we have no reason to further this conversation as you are a grade “A” milk dud.

It appears that all teams have clueless and tasteless fans in their base. But you can’t paint everyone with your broad brush.

Having said that, I for one really don’t care that Kyrin Priester isn’t going to UGA. He had an opportunity and twice failed to show any desire to play for UGA. He needs to play where he feels comfortable and if he missed an opportunity along the way, it was of his own choosing. UGA wants players who bleed red and black and he doesn’t seem to fit that catagory. Their are plenty of others that do want the opportunity to prove that they belong on the field with UGA.

Also, as a final note, I think that both the offensive lines and defensive lines got whipped Saturday night. Some of that was coachingschemes but let’s face it, UGA hasn’t recruited well in the “big ugly” department for the last several years and it came back to bite them in the SC game. They just got whipped by a superior team.

Interesting that I’ve never heard this point of view from a dawg fan on a blog where Bama fans are constantly called updykes and apparently enjoy a good tea bag. Well of course there are idiots in all fan bases. Bama fans don’t vandalize our players homes if they lose. That’s a Jawja thang.

Someone commented earlier that UGA will be back. From where and to what? They are pretty much what they have always been, an above average team that can’t seal the deal in big games. No national championships and the occasional SEC east championship. They are pretty much right where they have been for 32 years and with the one exception, about 60 years before that. Above average, but not elite. Take heart mutts, you are indeed back.

@Georgia Fan: = Troll

Fact of the matter is UGA has HS players standing in line to play for the UGA… Kyrin Priester is a very good talented D-1 WR who had a ship at UGA but for whatever reason de-committed and then changed his mind, while another WR recruit realized the opportunity and seized the moment!

I doubt very seriously, that you have ever strapped on the G or played any team sport… you’re just another blog troll with no life with a big L stamped on your forehead!

@Blackoutanyone? How do you know those who TPee’d the UGA players house were Jawjuh fans?

Assumption?

Just wait a few days and Terrance Donnels a.k.a. LSUFreek will have a video out showing all exactly who did this dirty deed!

It is nice the kid has decided where he wants to go, but this thing that the kids are doing now isn’t that much better than the other seedy problems with recruiting. If he wants to go to NC State fine but this isn’t a game it is real life and this is eventually going to be a choice that affects YOU.

Blackoutanyone?, didn’t Bama fans throw bricks through Curry’s window after a loss to Auburn? Wouldn’t you consider the poisoning of a valuable tree to be vandalism? In reference to your earlier comments, while the people that egged Murray’s house are unquestionably idiots, to equate that to a felonious sexual assualt on an unconscious vicitim is pure idiocy.

Geoffdawg… Can we not agree Curry deserved a brick in his window even if it is an urban legend? Richt certainly deserves a brick in his window…. maybe two. Again comparing the abuse of your own players because they lost a game to that of a drunk idiot flopping his junk on another drunk idiot is moronic at best. I think Murray’s father is very ill at this time. Would be nice to have your so called “fans” behind you at a time like this. Only a fan base who thrashes their own campus can such be expected.

This Priester kid is a perfect example of the kids today. He commited to UGA, then de-commited. Then when he decides he still wants to come and play hard to get and visit, he is told no. Someone who really wanted to come to UGA got his scholarship. So he disses UGA. Give me a break.

Wolfpacker, Your stupid. UGA did in fact stink this past game and SC brought the wood for sure. But NC State could not win 4 games in the SEC so go suck and egg and go back to sleep.
And as far as this young man thinking UGA pulled something away from him, they offered him and he threw in their faces. Then they opened the door once again and he took a couple of weeks to decide, get real kid because you wasted their time and there are a ton of young men out there that would love to be a DAWG.

Hard to believe that a NC WOLFPACK fan would come on this blog. You guys are part of the:

ACC…………………………………………..All Cissy Conference…………………..Basketball is the only sport that you have done very well. I may be wrong.

The SEC WON IN…………………….Mens Basketball, Football. Baseball, Gymbastics, and I am sure their were other sports also in 2012.

The SEC has won seven of the last nine BCS national championships, and five different SEC teams have won national championships in the BCS era, which dates back to 1998.

The SEC is currently the reigning national champions in the “big three” men’s sports – Football (Alabama), Men’s Basketball (Kentucky) and Baseball (South Carolina). In those sports, the SEC has won 11 national championships during the last six academic years.

Actually he did not really de-commit. The truth is when he committed UGA was not expecting him to decide so quickly. The entire staff did not sign off on the offer yet, and after he committed they chose to ignore him in an attempt to MAKE him look elsewhere. He never had a true committable offer to begin with. When he tried to get serious again last month, he was informed there was no offer.

UGA has used the “ignore treatment” several times in order to allow a prospect to find another opportunity and save face.
