Ex-UGA football recruit picks N.C. State after flirting again with Bulldogs

Ex-UGA football recruit Kyrin Priester committed to NC State on Sunday.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound wide receiver from Brookwood High School said he picked NC State over South Carolina, TCU and Vanderbilt.

“My relationship with the NC State coaches sealed the deal,” Priester told the AJC. “Then when I got there this weekend, the atmosphere for the game and everything … everybody being so nice to me, and my family as well, made it even better.”

Priester originally committed to UGA last April and then re-opened his recruiting a few months later because he felt like he had “rushed” his decision.

Last summer, Priester nearly committed to South Carolina after being recruited heavily by assistant Steve Spurrier Jr. “I had a good relationship with Coach Spurrier, but I didn’t really talk to the all the other coaches like I did at NC State. It’s like family there. It was way better this weekend than when I went to the Missouri game at South Carolina.

“At South Carolina, I felt like I only knew Coach Spurrier. With all the other coaches, they didn’t seem to have my best interests for me. I was just another player to them. Well, I’m not going to say I was just another player to them but when I went to NC State, all the coaches got involved with me. Everybody spoke to me, and everybody was cool. At South Carolina, I spoke mostly with just Coach Spurrier.”

Priester also considered committing to UGA for a second time. After being encouraged by his Brookwood teammate who is committed to the Bulldogs, linebacker Shaun McGee, Priester made a surprise unofficial visit to UGA for the Buffalo game. While at the game, Priester said he talked with UGA wide receivers coach Tony Ball, and said at the time: “They told me there was a place for me if that’s where I want to be. Coach Ball said they still need another wide receiver, and if I got serious about Georgia and put them back on the table, I will have a scholarship there.”

After thinking more about it, Priester got serious about UGA. He called a few weeks ago to set up an official visit for the UGA-Tennessee game and found out that the scholarship was gone, or was being saved for somebody else.

“They basically told my mom that they took my scholarship away,” Priester said. “They said I could come to the game and get tickets, but not as an official visit. When they told my mom about the scholarship being taken away, that’s when I knew they weren’t serious about me. It got to me a little bit, but I’m fine because now I’m where I want to be, and that’s NC State.”

Priester moved from the Orlando area to Brookwood after his junior season last March. His best friend, linebacker Jerod Fernandez of Florida’s Lake Mary High School, is also committed to NC State.

Kyrin, everything worked out for the best for you in the end!!!! Georgia is a good university with a sorry football team. The coaching there stinks. Congrats on NC State. You saw us against FSU and know WE can WIN a BIG GAME.

PS I apologize to all the Georgia fans in advance that it has come to this … an ACC fan talking smack. But that’s what happens when you play the easiest schedule in the country and still choke.

WolfPacker, Really? You have the nerve to want and disgrace Georgia? Has anybody reminded you of States bowl record compared to Georgia’s is? Get off this blog and go celebrate the win against the ACC’s version of the Dawgs, the Seminoles. Jimbo ain’t Bobby B, and the ACC sure ain’t the SEC. When we loose, we loose to potential Nat’l Champs, can anybody in the All Chump Conference claim a championship? Didn’t think so, and don’t say FSU or Miami, as they were both independants the last time either won.

Hey, I dont know what OL Coach Will Friend has to do with recruiting this fantastic WR, but I do know Friend is the worst Ol coach in the SEC..Was hired at UGA because he was a grad asst there years ago and went to church with Coach Richt..UGA needs to fire all coaches and mainly CMR !

“UGA pulling scholarships…seems to be a growing trend over there.”

I don’t know what they’re doing over there. Turning down GOOD players that WANT to play for the Dawgs in hope of landing a player that they may have a 20% shot at. Richt still thinks if he gets enough players they can overcome his coaching…the FSU model.

@Flo-Ri-Duh:

9 EE count against 2012 class 25 allowed for 2013 = 34 commits – UGA currently at 27 that leaves a total of 7 left. Hate to disagree but UGA takes two RB’s in this class! Tryen Jones has an official scheduled soon and bringing his parents too.

Another possibility at WR for UGA I heard mentioned is the name Jonathan Rumph JUCO WR 6′5″ 210lbs there is always a need for a tall possession receiver in the image of Marlon Brown. This could be the guy who snapped up Priester’s ship.

I just wanted to address Wolfpacker from near the top of this threat. First, you say “Georgia is a good university with a sorry football team.” Georgia is a good university with a football team 1 hundred times as good as NC State’s. Priester knew this, which is why he came crawling back to us, only to be rebuffed. Second, you say “that’s what happens when you play the easiest schedule in the country and still choke.” I truly believe in my heart that every team UGA has played this year, including Vandy and Mizzou, could beat the snot out of NC State. Georgia may have the easiest schedule in the SEC, but every single ACC team plays an easier schedule than UGA does. Georgia would run the table on the ACC every year if we played in that soon-to-be defunct conference.

South Carolina has the leadership in Shaw and a great defense. Being ranked 3RD is about right. South Carolina is a top 5 team. Georgia is a top 12 team. They will end up anywhere from 6TH to 12TH. I know some are disappointed that Georgia still can’t compete with top 5 teams but it isn’t a fluke that our Quarterback can’t beat a top ten team. Murray can not control his emotions and because of that I doubt he will even get drafted . Murray was 10 for 31 and there were open receivers that he just missed. South Carolina put all their concentration on stopping the run and let Murray self destruct, which he did. I hope that Ramsey or Mason will be given the opportunity next year. After being given 3 years to get it together Murray will not all of a sudden find the confidence to play with top 10 teams so it is time to move on . Let someone else have a chance to lead Georgia.
One other change that I would like to see is another Defensive Line coach and head recruiter.
I think Bobo is doing a much better job this year. He can’t make the throws for Murray. Don’t blame Bobo this time.
But, it’s not the end of the world, Georgia has a very good team that I am very proud of, it could be a lot worst, like Georgia Tech.

USC is a very, very good team.
We should have been better prepared.
Its one thing to lose; entirely another to be blown out.

Will we ever get to the next level?
This is getting very old.
Maybe 10 years is long enough.

Sorry guys…let’s stop blaming the players. USC was the better team on Saturday night — their lines killed us. Which goes to coaching and recruiting. Bobo knew USC would get pressure — why not line up in 2 TE formation with FB blocking for TB? I think we should get rid of this staff and bring Kirby Smart in. He has learned everything from Saban from evaluating players to recruiting players to coaching with detail.

Well, before we start nimin Kirby Smart the hier apparent we better make sure there isn’t someone out there more prepared. Charlie Strong stands out to me. He has head coaching experience. We have no idea what Kirby can do. Heck, Derek Dooley might even be a good chioce given that he won’t be inheriting a mess. Chip Kelly-anybody to get past this malaise that has overtaken this program. For the record- I’ve stood steadfast beind Richt untill Saturday night. It’s time to move on.

I’m amazed at how stupid several bloggers are when they act like UGa did something wrong in recruiting this kid. He was offered a scholarship, accepted it, then rejected it, and when he returned to continue his “game” it was no longer on the table. His mistake and nothing at all sinister by UGa.

Dude wake up, do you really think guys like Bryant will come to Ga with Gurley / Marshall is around for at least 3 years. We just got beat like a rag doll this weekend and these posts about possible players is all you can come up with? We are out coached and out played to the max! Why would anyone want to come to UGA after that best down!

Not interested in Kirby Smart at all. He has shown a complete lack of integrity on the recruiting trail over the last couple of years by constantly telling lies about UGA and the coaching staff. I don’t care if he is a better coach (very debatable), the lack of integrity (which some on here can also attribute to Saban) is a deal breaker to me IMHO.
