Recruiting Diary: Georgia Tech-bound OL Shamire DeVine (Vol. III)

Some of Atlanta’s college football prospects will be writing a weekly diary for the AJC until February’s signing day. They will be sharing their thoughts, opinions, adventures and perspectives on the recruiting journey.

Shamire DeVine
is the most highly-touted member of Georgia Tech’s 2013 recruiting class. Devine, who is ranked as the state’s No. 1 offensive lineman and a 4-star by, committed to Georgia Tech over Florida State, while also considering football scholarship offers from Florida, UGA, Tennessee and USC. He pledged to Georgia Tech in early May.

I know Georgia Tech is 2-3 but I think they are doing good – they just have to keep it up and have some more fight. My observations on Georgia Tech are that they are holding it down. They are running the ball perfectly. There is nothing I see that needs to be improved.

I have been talking to the Georgia Tech coaches. They are saying that they just need to hold it down and pick it up a little bit.

I saw my friend Chris Griffin [another offensive lineman committed to Georgia Tech] at a recent game. He reminds me of “Family Guy.” We talked and cracked jokes.

I’ve been hearing from Kentucky and Louisville. They have just been saying that they would love to have me as part of the team, and stuff like that. I don’t think I will be taking any visits soon.

And when I said [to Rivals] that UGA is trying to get back into the picture, I was saying it has been like two months since I got any type of mail from them. One day I go home and there’s like 10 pieces of mail from UGA in the mailbox. They congratulated me on making the AJC Super 11, awards and other stuff like that.

Glad he’s still committed to us! We can always use bodies along the trenches where most games are won/lost. Hopefully we can pull some D-linemen as highly rated as Shamire to join the recruiting class of 2013. Does anyone know how many spots are actually “open” for this the class of 2013? Seems like it was slated to be approx. 15. Not sure if that’s changed or not.

SoCal, I think 15 is about right. What the coaches have intimated is that they are not going to give out scholarships just to hit that number right now. They are going to be very choosey from this point on. They also understand that the number will fluctuate slightly as they award scholarships to walk on players who are already on the team who earn playing time. So at this point they have two to give depending on how the numbers fluctuate.
