Georgia State football coach Bill Curry will retire at the end of the season, but it hasn’t stopped the team on the recruiting trail.

River Bryant, a 6-foot-4, 230-pound tight end from Jackson High School, has committed to Georgia State.

Georgia State, which now has six commitments for 2013, was the first offer for Bryant, who also had interest from Auburn, Georgia Tech and a lot of smaller schools.

“I picked Georgia State because they were my first full ride offer,” Bryant told the AJC. “They’re close to home. I’m just down here in Jackson County, near Athens. It’s about 45 minutes to an hour away.

“It’s close to home, and they’re moving up to D1 next year in the Sun Belt conference. I have a great opportunity to play there, My family will be able to come down and watch me play. It was very important for me to play where my family could come watch and see me. And it has been a dream of mine since the eighth grade to play Div. I football.

“Georgia State just fulfilled all of my requirements.”

@Football Fan Likely between 25-30.

@Just Wondering Go check out the current roster. Several players from Gwinnett, Cobb and other Metro counties. Bryant is from Jefferson, GA which is about 60 miles away from campus just north of Braselton. Not exactly far outside the Metro area.

Welcome! Seems like a solid get! Someone needs to tell him we have been D1 for many years now. Education is key.
