Mohamed Camara: South Carolina LB cancels UGA visit … with flat

LB Mohamed Camara (AJC)

LB Mohamed Camara (AJC)

One of South Carolina’s football recruits was scheduled to visit UGA on Saturday, but couldn’t make it because of a flat tire.

Mohamed “Mo” Camara, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker from West Forsyth High School, had car trouble on the way to Saturday’s UGA-Florida Atlantic game. Camara, who was already running late for kickoff, decided to cancel the trip after the flat.

“It was a bummer, but the game ended up being a blowout,” said Camara, who texted UGA defensive coordinator Todd Grantham to let him know he wasn’t going to make it.

What’s the deal with “Mo” and UGA? “I had interest in them early,” he said. “Right now, I’m not really looking at recruiting that much because I’m committed to South Carolina, and I’m 100 percent with them. I really don’t talk to Georgia that much.”

Camara committed to the first school that offered him, South Carolina. He pledged to the Gamecocks last spring, and has since added football scholarship offers from Wake Forest, Central Florida and Middle Tennessee State, among others.

Many other schools have expressed interest, including Florida State, Auburn and UGA. What if the Bulldogs offered? “If Georgia offered, I’d be really grateful and blessed. But right now, I’m 100 percent with SC. I’d definitely be willing to go down there, check everything out, and see where it feels like home.”

South Carolina has 20 commitments for its 2013 recruiting class, including eight from Georgia. The Gamecocks, under the direction of defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward, have made the state a priority, signing 12 Georgia prospects last year.

Camara has developed a close relationship with South Carolina’s star player, tailback Marcus Lattimore. The two often exchange text messages of encouragement.

Camara said he plans to take an unofficial visit to South Carolina for this weekend’s Missouri game, and then go back next month for his official visit when the Gamecocks play host to UGA. Camara said he’s unsure whether or not he will take official visits to other schools.

Thanks for letting us know MC! This is groundbreaking stuff, a South Carolina recruit blew a tire and didn’t come to UGA for an unofficial visit. Good luck at Carolina Mo. Now tell us if any of the recruits actually committed to UGA or offered by them enjoyed their visits? I know a few were there by reading your previous article.

I’m more impressed by the fact that the 2012 class, however small it was, is making an impact on THIS team and we have em for 3-4 years. That class is why we will reload rather than rebuild. J Taylor, jordan Jenkins, Marshall, gurley, theus, m Morgan, barber, beard, josh Harvey, b tibbs, quayvon, etc.

UGA nation should go to the press and NCAA for support to this athlete. Looks like UGA is losing a big highly recruited kid as this article imply. By the way,I blew my tire as well today Sunday and have to tweet my pastor as he is sure to miss my presence and weekly you know what.

Don’t the dawgs already have something like 200 linebackers. We need beef. Maybe a RB and another DB. We don’t need anymore linebackers.

South Carolina got a “gift” win last year and still BARELY won the game. This years UGA team is SO MUCH BETTER than last years at this point of the season and come the South Carolina game, Rambo and Ogletree will be back on defense. So the only question will be….will South Carolina score a TD the whole game or not? Because they certainly will not win because they certainly wont get 20+ points given to them by the special teams and offense. We KNOW our defense wont be giving them any either because like I said, SC offense didnt do much of nothing against them last year and they are going to be full strength and even stronger this time around. How much is South Carolins’s home field worth? Not enough for them to win…….

Columbus

Depends on which linebacker spot we have in mind for him if we have enough linebackers or not. And we havent offered him either so who knows. DB’S and OL and DL and maybe a receiver. if there are any more Ogletrees out there, we will take 30 of them. We will find a spot for ‘em!

Missouri is going to give SC a game….lets see what happens with that. SC hasnt played anyone with an offense yet and hasnt played a decent team but Vandy and barely won that one….Missouri is good on both sides of the ball. Good thing its not a road game for the Cocks

No the question would be are your new QB’s following in the footsteps left by Garcia the all-world drunk. Bobo will be sober for the Cocks. We owe them a good whipping for giving them a W last year. It is going to be a beatdown. A Fowl one too. Feathers will be flying and chicken will be the only thing on the menu come October 6th….my add a little Spurrier salad for good measure while we are at it. I say we just shut them out at home….yeah

Columbus, when and if you ever stop Lattimore, you might sneak out a win. Will be UGA’s toughest game seeing you are playing your Daddy at the Cockpit..

Game Changer

September 17th, 2012
7:21 am

UGA linebackers are weak other than Jarvis Jones who is a pressure outside rusher.

In games where the opposing teams run right at Jarvis Jones it tends to lessen his ability to pressure each play, ie: buffalo — vandy ran over the defense in the 2011 football game.

Vandy enters as a top defensive team so the UGA offense will finally get a test of sorts.

We will find out if our UGA team is worthy of top ten, should be 10 to 20, or overrated and another year of 20 plus quality team. After game six in columbia S.C. we will all know if we are worthy of winning the east.

@ Columbus….last I heard, scoring on defense and special teams counts just as much as scoring on offense. Also it’s kinda hard to keep scoring on offense when your special team and defense keeps scoring and then giving ball back to the dawgs. Why don’t you wait until the Oct. showdown and see if you get to bragg for first time in four years?

If you believe the old 'flat tire' story...

Obviously Mo is way too bright to want to spend 3-4 years in a cesspool like Athens, surrounded by thug players and 3rd rate coaches.

USC will lose to Mizz. and UGA. UGA has not had there entire starting Defence on the feild. They will be 100% for the USC game. Tree, Rambo, Jarvis, all will be ready to go. UGA has been waiting for the USC game it is a must win game and they will bring it to SC.

UGA man here with the truth

Georgia is a good team capable of playing well vs any other NCAA team beyond Alabama and possibly LSU.

UGA is an incomplete football team, however. Murray gets a big case of CHOKE in important games, like vs Missouri. Our D really is a work in progress and we have some holes. Yes, Alec O and others will help us but they will be green in game situations, when they do return.

The O line is not deep and is very inexperienced. Our running backs are growing, as are the receivers.

We do not tackle well on D and so it goes. OOver the middle, SC and Vandy and UT will hit some big ones. Watch this in particular. FAU did this for a TD as did Mizzo.

UGA is probably a 10-2 squad and with some breaks, we could end up back in the SEC CG only to lose to Alabama. Cap One if we are lucky is where I see UGA. If we go 11-3, we could end up at #8,9 or 10 at best.

Class of 71 & 73

The players at South Carolina will remember that even though they won last year , Georgia beat them like a rented mule. Because of extreme poor leadership from Murray and our special teams they got all but 22 points as gifts. The defense only gave up the 22 points and contained Lattimore enough while he was full speed.
I think Lattimore has lost a little on speed but the main thing is, whether it is subconscious or not , THEY WILL REMEMBER, and that will put doubt in their mind. The same psychological thing that worked on Georgia every year against Florida whether Florida was better or not.

The Missouri game against South Carolina will tell us a lot . I hope Missouri will have Franklin at full speed and have figured out how to play for 60 minutes. If South Carolina wins they will not be able to hold anything back for the Georgia game. But I still think Missouri wins this one 21 to 20.
