Donovahn Jones: Missouri picks up Georgia QB

Missouri, which lost to UGA on Saturday, is winning some recruiting battles in its new SEC recruiting territory.

Donovahn Jones, a quarterback from Dutchtown High School, committed to Missouri over Arkansas, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Minnesota and South Florida. The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder will play WR in college.

“I just fell in love with Missouri when I visited back in July. I really loved the campus and the stability of the program,” Jones said. “The fact that Missouri plays in the SEC was also very important in my decision.

”I know we had a tough lost against Georgia, but the atmosphere at Memorial Stadium was electric. I knew as I was watching the game with my family that Missouri was where I wanted to call home for the next four years.”

Jones, who is originally from the Midwest area (Illinois), is the second Dutchtown senior to commit to a D1 college, following in the footsteps of OL Jordan Harris and Middle Tennessee State.

“Donovahn told me in the 9th grade that he wanted to be the first football player at Dutchtown High School to sign a SEC scholarship and I am so proud that he has worked to accomplish that goal”, said Dutchtown assistant Terry Herrod. “It is so hard to earn the opportunity to play college football at an SEC school. It is a testament to Donovahn, his parents, and the entire Dutchtown community”.

How good is Jones? “You are talking about a kid that is 6-3, 190 punds who runs a legit 4.49 with a 39 inch vertical. Moreover, he is a great high character kid, very humble.” said Herrod.

Missouri coach Gary Pinkel told the AJC a few months ago that Georgia was an important recruiting territory now that his team has joined the SEC. Missouri has assigned at least two coaches to scour the state for talent, and has offered football scholarships to 20 Georgia seniors, according to Rivals.

“We’ve done a complete analysis of players that sign with BCS schools out of Georgia, and certainly out of the Atlanta area,” Pinkel said. “The size and production of SEC and BCS is parallel to the Metroplex area in Dallas. The numbers out of Atlanta and Dallas are nearly identical. Both have great high school football.

“What you do is go down there and figure out how many players from Georgia stay in the SEC and stay in the ACC, and how many leave the state and go elsewhere to play. We’ve got data on these kinds of things. And, if anything, it’s about identifying good players and selling Missouri.

“We want to go down there with a good reputation of winning football games and graduating our athletes. It’s about marketing and developing trust … and slowly and slowly working ourselves into Georgia. We’re excited about doing that.”

He picked an college that is an AAU member too. I hope he is ready to study as well as play ball.
The SEC doubled it’s black coaches and AAU members by adding Texas A&M & Mizzou.

Glad to see Mizzou bringing in a few “humble” players. Congratulations to the young man.

But he’s not from Georgia. It’s not like Misery came in here and “stole” him away from another program. He’s from the midwest. So, no big deal. Enjoy it kid. As long as you can keep beating A&M, you can keep padding your “SEC wins” stats.

Another one bites the dust! How much lomger can Richt/Booboo ignore ANTHONY JENNINGS. The kid had over 350 yards total offense vs. Newnan, NOT including a 25 yard touchdown reception. Newnan’s head coach stated: “IF THERE’S A BETTER QUARTERBACK IN THE STATE, I DON”T WANT TO FACE HM.” And last week, after misfiring on his 1st pass, Jennings completed his NEXT 18 straight! His next incompletion came with 2 minutes left in the 1st half. And he’s a UGA legacy and grew up a DAWG fan! What the hell does it take Richt? There’s only one reason you’re not after the kid.And that reason has no place on college football today. This guy Bobo is killing you. 32 years and counting. Y’all haven’t won a National Title since MOBY DICK WAS A MINNOW. And with Richt and Booboo calling the shots,it’s no wonder.

UGA is full at the QB spot. There was only 1 spot and Brice Ramsey took it.

Tide Roll,

If the kid is as good as you say, why go to Georgia and maybe see the field his senior year especially if Murray comes back. Mason looks like he is legit and so does LeMay. Go to LSU and win the back up job behind Mettenberger and start in two years. It is really hard for a true freshman QB to beat out guys who have been in the program 2-3 years and are big time players themselves. That is true at most any major D-1 school.

Go Dawgs!

I hate to say it but tide roll is right for once. Richt and staff should at least offer Jennings. How could it hurt? Especially after terribly evaluating Cam Newton as a tight end. Jennings is a better prospect than Ramsey, so why gift wrap him to LSU? BTW, Mettenberger is the QB Georgia needs in order to run their vertical offense effectively. Murray has to scurry around too much to find receivers 40 yards down the field. He’s good, but Mettenberger would have been better suited. As far as already having established QB’s at the position already, well, Gurley was not exactly recruited to start ya know. Funny how things happen.

Also, had Crowell been able to stay, maybe it would be Keith Marshall would be getting no carries in the backfield.

TIDE ROLL, We were saying the same things about your program when you had “Coach Fran”; Coach Dubose and his “secretaries”; Coach Hooters and Coach Pretty Boy Shula (Not Don)… Well you threw a boatload of money at Sir Saban and like the Blind Squirrel, you found a coach… Enjoy it while you can! It won’t last…..Ours has and will….

Where to start
@SKB: How can you lose someone you did not offer?

@Tide Roll and Slydog: Jennings is a better prospect than Ramsey??? Not in the UGA staff’s opinion, and when it comes to recruiting and coaching QBs I will give them the benefit of the doubt.

As has been mentioned several times, the Dogs are only taking one QB this time, and his name is Brice Ramsey.

Also, Willie and Anthony are okay with it- said they understood UGA had their QB for this class.

Logic lesson for Tide Roll

SInce you are a Bama fan, or at least play one on this board, why are not you upset that Saban did not get a commit from Jennings? You do not like Georgia, so logically you should be pleased he did not commit to UGA.

Tide Roll, do you believe the Walton kid is better than Jennings? I have not heard you comment one way or the other on this, but playing the role of a Tide fan, it seems like you would comment on this.

Had a Mizzou fan come up to a group of us(UGA fans) and yell the first part of one of their cheer….MIZ… my response in finishing the cheer was …..KEY MOUSE. Talking about jaw dropping with nothing to say. Every UGA fan around was rolling laughing. All the mizzou fan could do was silently walk away..truely a classic(all this was done in good clean fun). Seriously, good luck to them. Their fans were the nicest and classiest before and after the game. Other sec schools including some of our own fans should take lessons in civility.

We (UGa.) can offer scholarships to ALL the best high school quarterbacks in the nation; but, if we don’t save some scholarships for the supporting cast…we are toast. Jennings probably is as good as advertised; but, we have made our bed of quarterbacks for at least the next two years and we will make the best of it.

Missouri is now 24-16-1 against the SEC all time according to CFDW. Now standing at 0-2 against UGA. That is a far cry from a 21-8 record that you are claiming MIZZOU RAH!

Look for the number of black coaches to be reduced by one if things stay the way they are at Kentucky..People in Lexington remember what Bobby Petrino did at Louisvile so that will be interesting..I know they also remember what happened at Arkansas but winning has a very negative effect on the memory.

tide Roll, you are a complete knucklehead and are an embarrassment to the loyal Tide fans that I know personally. If you had any sense, you would know that UGA has a full line up of QB’s, and we seriously did not need to look at Jennings. Why are you not ranting about the “O” line any more? Guess you have flogged that dead horse enough. Get out of here, we do not need your opinions and do not care what you have to say. And, good luck to the Mizzou Tigers and your recent pick-up from Georgia!

If tide roll thinks Jennings is such a great qb, why not let Alabama recruit him?

jenning the real deal

September 11th, 2012

Jennings is the best QB in Ga at this point. However Ramsey may have the best upside after a redshirt college year. Jennings sat in on a GA QB session led by Bobo on an unofficial visit to Athens last year and was very impressed. But he appreciates that GA got Brice early and Richt was 100% honest with him so he looked for another SEC school. He has absolutely 100% good feelings about GA and Richt and hopes Ramsey is very successful as they compete against each other in the future. Guess who was Jennings’ second pick, after LSU? Missouri. There’s a potential QB opening there in the next year or two. At LSU he has a clear shot to compete for the starting job when Mett graduates or goes to the NFL. But you will never hear a bad word said about Georgia by Anthony Jennings.

Cant make this up:

UGA has best pressure outside LB in college football, number one objective each play is to pressure the QB.

Now to Missouri coach: we will run a no back set on offense and let this best pressure LB named Jarvis Jones destroy us — YOU CANNOT MAKE THIS UP

Donovahn Jones fell in love with those “BAD” girls in Springfield/Columbia area in Missouri. Trust me. I remember going there and being completely blown away. I would have never expected such “overall talent” in the middle of Missouri. Those who have really been there know exactly what I am talking about. :-)
