Derrick Henry: Alabama, UGA or Tennessee for 5-star football recruit?

Ex-UGA recruit Derrick Henry (247sports.com)

Ex-UGA recruit Derrick Henry (247sports.com)

Derrick Henry, the 5-star RB who was formerly committed to UGA for nearly a year, has finally set his announcement date.

The 6-foot-3, 245-pounder told BamaOnline that he will decide between Alabama, Tennessee and UGA on Sept. 28.

Henry told the website that “Alabama’s still leading, and Tennessee is right there.” He plans to attend Tennessee’s home game against Florida on Sept. 15 to get a good feel what Rocky Top is like during football season.

What about UGA? Henry picked the Bulldogs last summer at Dawg Night, stayed committed for nearly a year, and backed off his pledge in June. UGA appears to be third in a three-horse race, but Henry is close friends with UGA QB commit Brice Ramsey of Camden County and attended his game on Friday night.

Last Thursday, Henry rushed for 338 yards and 3 touchdowns in Florida’s Yulee High School’s loss to Gainesville. Henry has racked up 8,211 career rushing yards and 102 touchdowns.

RELATED: The state of Georgia’s No. 1 prospect at RB, Walton High School’s Tyren Jones, ran for a school record 334 yards (along with four touchdowns) in the win over McEachern on Friday. Jones is committed to Alabama but still being actively pursued by other schools, including UGA. If Derrick Henry picks Alabama, there’s rampant speculation that it may affect how Tyren Jones feels about the Crimson Tide – and those are rumors that Jones has publicly denied. However, Jones did recently confirm to the AJC that he plans to visit other schools than Alabama later this fall, but he declined to specify the colleges. In two games this year, Jones has looked like the most dominating player in the state of Georgia – rushing for 639 yards and 9 touchdowns

Henry to Bama is a done deal.
The question is why would Tyren Jones go there when they’re going to have 5 high schooll All-American running backs on the roster? Kenyan Drake the great back from Georgia who went last year isn’t even listed on the 4 deep depth chart for runningback. I don’t blame Tyren Jones for keeping his options open.

Let him go……We have two very good ones now……..there will be others……maybe Jones and/or Kamara (or both) will decide it’s too crowded there and choose UGA…..

Personally, I think Jones is better. Henry is more of a Richard Samuel type, and Jones is much better than that. Unless Jones wants to get buried on the depth chart like Drake, he should go somewhere else though.

Hey Dawg Fans. I’ve got to hand it to Mike Bobo. Y’all haven’t won a National Title in 32 years, but his unbiased evaluation of players is beyond reproach. He’s dead on again regarding Anthony Jennings. Never mind that LSU sees him as the top dual threat QB in America, let’s go-go with Bo-bo. I mean, what does LSU know? They’ve only won TWO National Titles recently. Never mind that Jennings had over 300 yards vs. Newnan, NOT including a 25 yard touchdown reception. Never mind that Newnan’s Head Coach was quoted as saying “If there’s a better Quarterback in the State, I don’t want to see him.” Never mind all of this. this is MIKE BOBOI we’re talking about and it’s what Jennings did this past Friday that convinces me that BOBO IS THE MAN!. After misfiring on his 1st pass attempt, Jennings went on to complete his NEXT 18 STRAIGHT. That’s 18 straight completions. His next incompletion came with 2:00 minutes left in the 3rd quarter! He passed for two touchdowns, and ran for another two. Damn Booboo, what does it take man? If Richt had a pair, he’d fire Booboo, hire SCOTT BURTON, Marietta’s coach, as UGA’s QB Coach, and try like hell to turn Jennings! But that ain’t gonna happen. You see, Boboo is married to Barb Dooley’s niece, and Richt, rather than doing what’s best for UGA, is doing what’s best for Richt to stay on the gravy train. Thus, Booboo stays, Jennings goes, and the Dawg’s lose. 32 years. No Wonder.

There are plenty of ways Tyren Jones can make his mark on the Bama roster no matter who does or doesn’t come aboard at RB in the next recruiting cycle . The only impact other players can have on what Jones can do is whether or not he lets people using that to get in his head .

Huh? You’re right. Bobo had a good game vs. Wisconsin in yet another OUTBACK Bowl appearance by the DAWGS. Did You see Bama vs. Michigan last night? I honestly believe that CHANCE WARMACK from Atlanta Westlake ( Cam Newton’s high school – Newton was evaluated as a tight end by Bobo and Richt), is the best offensive lineman ever for the TIDE. He and James Carpenter from Hepzibah Ga. formed a lethel left side for Bama’s TWO NATIONAL Titles. Carpenter went on to become a 1st round graft pick of Seattle, and we now have his clone in Cedar Grove OT, BRANDON GREENE. I swear I don’t know what we’d do without Richt and Bobo providing us these stud OL(s). Saban ought to send them both one of our National Championship rings. And I’ll tell you something else, Les Miles ought to do the same in appreciaation of their failing to offer Anthony Jennings. Please please please. KEEP RICHT AN BOOBOO. They’re our best recruiters!

I seriously doubt it . You don’t make it at Bama with a mind that feeble . Most people that weak willed wouldn’t even accept a scholarship from the Tide to begin with . How would the question even enter his brain ? ” I know I am already getting carries in the first game of the season with the top program in the nation as a redshirt freshmen coming off a severe knee injury . Still … if I had went to Michigan I could be getting twice as many carries right now as a player for the team getting it’s a** kicked all over the field”

SEC…Drake got a chance to play last night. He got the games final carry. But your point is well taken. Drake would start at many other SEC schools, or any of the ACC schools. I don’t know if this kid’s getting good insight into the type of depth they have over in Tuscaloosa. Unless the top two or three are going to declare this year and next, there are not a great deal of carries on that team. If my son was in this situation Bama is the last place I would recommend. I would say the same to Walton’s talented RB Jones. If not for any other reason than there are limited reps there.

If Henry isn’t sold on being a Dawg let him go to Bama or UT. We need people who want to represent the university and not obsess about themselves. I follow him on twitter and he begs for attention. Seems to be a DaRick Rogers type. I really hoped he would be a dawg but we are in good hands with Gurley and Marshall. I’d rather have kamara or jones now. Henry is big on henry. He doesn’t seem to be big in team. Maybe it’s immaturity. If he can’t keep his word and stick it out with UGA then let him go. At Bama I guarantee he will be moved to defense. UT will play him at RB where he will get the attention he craves but then will learn a new system and perhaps be moved after year one when dooley gets fired. We need people who love UGA. If he is good enough it won’t matter which school he goes to he can make it to the NFL. I hope he matures and makes a good choice. Between saban, dooley and richt only one of them is honest and will shoot straight with you and that’s richt. Other than him who knows what you can believe from most other coaches. They will all tickle your ears and tell you what they want. I prefer someone who isn’t looking for the spotlight that will work his tail off and give his best for his team and his university. The individual accolades will follow. GATA. Beat Mizzou
