Jay Ellison: Georgia Tech in final four for 4-star DT

Jay Ellison has Georgia Tech among his four finalists, along with Auburn, South Carolina and Ole Miss.

The 6-2, 295-pound defensive lineman from Harris County High School attended Georgia Tech’s camp in July and has been keeping in contact with the Yellow Jackets. “I have a real good feeling about Georgia Tech. I like the coaches, and the atmosphere is great.”

Georgia Tech is recruiting Ellison to play nose tackle or defensive inside, and right now he “prefers the inside.”

There’s also an outside chance that UGA may get involved. The Bulldogs, which haven’t offered yet, spoke to Ellison about a year ago about playing offensive line, and they’ve have limited contacted since. However, Ellison plans to attend UGA’s season-opener against Buffalo, and may try to talk again with the coaches. “I really want to play defensive line, but I will play offensive line, too,” Ellison said. “Then again, I’d really like to stay on the defensive side of the ball.”

Ellison said one of the biggest attractions to UGA is playing with his former high school teammate, freshman linebacker Jordan Jenkins.

Ellison, who is nicknamed “Baby” because of his youthful looks, has a 3.2 GPA and plans to major in accounting. Ellison hasn’t set a decision date but will likely commit to a school during his senior season.

For all the CPJ haters out there – this is why GT will never get top recruitment classes. The scope of degrees, simpy put, don’t usually match with college athletes. Here’s a guy probably plenty smart enough to attend Tech – but wants to major in Accounting. Wether you like UGA or hate it, if you want to be a businessman you’re better off going to UGA. Same with a lot of other degrees – Tech is just very limited. As far as I’m concerned, CPJ is doing a great job recruiting within the confines of the GT offerings. I think having a unique offense and going after different athletes is a great way to make Tech relevant in college football. I’ll take CPJ and 9-3 every year if thats the best we can do – he’s at least exciting. Thankfully, I think he’s going to put together a string of 10 win seasons! Go GT

The business degree at GT is superior in EVERY WAY to the business degree from UGA. Every objective measure says so. The starting salaries of GT business majors (both undergrad and MBA are higher) and all rankings that I’ve ever seen have GT’s business school ranked higher than UGA. Not sure what information you were using to come up with your assessment, but obviously, I think its wrong.

Now, going back to the original point of this article, I think if UGA offers this kid, he’s going there. Period. End of Story. If they don’t offer, we’ve got a great chance.

Oman……what hole have you been living in. Tech’s newly renamed business / management school ranks a good 20 spots higher than the one at UGA.

Not a management/business major, but I’m pretty sure you take the degree and then get a certificate in your preferred field. One of the fields you can specialize in is accounting.

I agree with GTfan2012. I also read his comments as if he gets the offer to UGA, he is going there. He comments sound like Mustaffa’s and we know how that turned out.
