Juwan Parker: UGA beats out Stanford and Memphis for 3-star

UGA picked up its second basketball commitment for 2013 with Juwan Parker this weekend.

The 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Tulsa, Okla., selected UGA over Memphis and Stanford, according to the Tulsa World.

“My family has a good relationship with [UGA assistant Kwanza Johnson] and coach [Mark Fox], and Georgia has one of the best business schools in the country,” Juwan Parker said. “Coach Fox built a winner at Nevada and he’s doing the same thing at Georgia. When I visited there, I felt very comfortable. I felt at home.”

Parker is ranked as a 3-star and the nation’s No. 117 overall prospect by Rivals. Last year as a junior, Parker averaged 20.5 points and 9.4 rebounds.

UGA’s other 2013 commitment is JJ Frazier, a 5-10 point guard from Georgia’s Faith Baptist Christian Academy.

Stanford, UGa and Memphis……that is a Wide Range of Basketball Talent and Academic Difficulty.
Looks like he picked the college in the middle on any level.

According to my son’s private school and his SAT tutor it is harder to get into UGA right now thn Emory’s honor program. Why is that?

Basketball is so different than football – fox gets 2 five stars and he’s in the final 4 – keep getting 3 stars and the program will continue to have no relevance. Sorry but it’s true. Great basketball coach who would thrive with elite talent.

Pj,
That’s not necessarily true. The 04 class that Donovan brought in consisted of only 3 and 4 star recruits. All they did was win back to back national championships. Most 5 stars don’t stick around for more than 2 years…if that.

Well ask your kids teacher to teach you since you don’t understand the NUMBERS game of college. It mostly has to do with HOPE and the EZ majors UGa offers. If you are saying UGa is better than Emory or Tech or Stanford you really need to be the one taking those classes with your child.

I’ll be cautiously optimistic here and wait to see Juwan in a game. The one good thing is that he’s a 6′4″ SHOOTING guard which could mean a few more points for the ‘Dogs. If he can move with his size, he just may be a BIGGER plus than I hope. Time will tell. Now, Coach Fox, we need a couple of bigger boys for the boards.

bucket…i originally said he picked in the middle. Stanford is better academically and Memphis typically has more Athletic BBall players. The Kid had choices from 1 coast to the other that were VERY different in every aspect of college.

Its harder to get into UGA because its a numbers game. UGA has record numbers of students applying because its the state university and its payed for by HOPE. It means that UGA is getting students with very high SAT scores, but I’m not sure if the instruction has improved over the past.

The “obvious” is not so obvious. Why do people consider playing a slow down, deliberate game to be great coaching? I haven’t seen the results of this ‘great coaching’.

When it comes to basketball, Tech has a lot more to boast about then UGA. Go find a football blog and quit pretending to care about other sports.

Two things

1. Scout.com does not list either a Memphis or Stanford offer. Its possible he was recruited by them but was not offered.

2. Tech’s acceptance rate is lower than Georgia’s, so the person above needs to get his facts straight. The incoming SATs also aren’t even comparable – Tech’s blows georgias out of the water.

The newspaper studied 55 of the countries largest public universities and found that the preferences given to special admits at many schools was disproportionately favoring athletes, particularly football players. For example, in 2004 the University of California reported that 95% of freshman football players on scholarship were special recruits while 47% of all freshman athletes on scholarships were special admits. In contrast, only 2% of all freshman students were special admits. At the University of Georgia and Texas A&M University, 94% of freshman football players were special admits.

Students are not imagining it if they think it’s harder to get in to Georgia Tech.

Those admitted for next fall boast an average 3.9 GPA and a 1430 out of 1600 on the math and verbal SAT. By high school graduation these students would have taken an average of eight college-level courses, such as Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate.

About 14,700 students applied for one of the 2,400 spots for fall or the 250 spots for this summer. The admitted class represents 86 countries and 49 states. No one from Wyoming was admitted.

The University of Georgia is scheduled to announce admission decisions by April 1.

How many guards do we have? Time for 6′10″..6′11″ 260-280 lb frontcourt bullies. Throw in a 7 foot center that is weight appropriate and can boss around the competition.

@ GTBob’s 1:32 post….For someone so highly educated you may want to go check your usage of the word “then”. You constantly misuse it! Just sayin. Now, I read the Tech blogs quite often just to read how the team is doing and rarely post unless I have something positive to say about your team but I don’t see you posting on your team’s blog’s that often and from what I’ve read many of your own fan base doesn’t care for your comment’s either. I am a Dawg fan and get along quite well with many of the poster’s on the Tech blogs. Maybe you should find something more constructive to do with your time at mom’s house rather “than” post on blogs and portraying yourself as an idiot.
