Robert Nkemdiche … superhero? (and more)

Want to see another side of Robert Nkemdiche? Click on the video above.

Nkemdiche leads the 2011 AJC’s Super 11 team, as the first Georgia high school senior to be ranked as the nation’s No. 1 overall college prospect. Not only that, Nkemdiche is the consensus No. 1 (a rarity) with the four major recruiting services – Rivals, Scout, ESPN and 247sports.com.

What’s the latest with Nkemdiche’s recruiting? He’s 100-percent committed to Clemson, will go see his older brother play at least one game for Ole Miss this season, is unsure if he will take official visits to any other schools, and if he does it may be USC and Oregon, according to multiple reports.

Back to the Super 11: It’s one of the AJC’s biggest traditions and events of the year. The list is compromised of the state’s top 11 high school football players – not college prospects. We’ll have our own AJC recruiting rankings out later this fall.

Here’s some of the AJC Super 11 links to read more:

Back to Nkemdiche: How often will you get the chance to see the nation’s No. 1 overall prospect play in person? Not often. Well, never before in the history of Georgia high school football.

You can watch Nkemdiche and several other of the state’s top prospects this upcoming Saturday in the Georgia Dome as part of the Corky Kell Classic. Nkemdiche will be in the 11:45 a.m. game. Here’s a breakdown of the top prospects in each game:

LANGLEY NAMES VISITS: Kell safety Brendan Langley, who committed to South Carolina earlier this month, has revealed his five official visits: Miami (vs. N.C. State, Sept. 29), South Carolina (vs. UGA, Oct. 6), Tennessee (vs. Alabama, Oct. 20), Florida (vs. Missouri, Nov. 3), and UCLA (vs. USC, Nov. 17). “There’s nothing for South Carolina to be worried about,” -Langley told the AJC. “I’m 100-percent committed to South Carolina. This is the biggest decision of my life, and my parents want me to visit some places to compare to South Carolina. I know nothing will compare to South Carolina.” At onetime Langley had UGA and Alabama as his co-leaders before settling on South Carolina.

UGA RECRUIT SCORES TWICE: ESPN, Rivals, Scout and 247sports had representatives in the Charlotte area to see a heap of college prospects in the Friday showdown between North Carolina powerhouses Butler High School and Mallard Creek. Tennessee-bound QB Riley Ferguson threw a pair of TD passes to UGA WR commit Uriah LeMay in the 27-6 win by Butler. Ferguson was also intercepted thrice in the third quarter. UGA WR target Marquez North scored Mallard Creek’s only touchdown on a 9-yard run.

@ a person smart enough to know- Well 7-5 since 2000, isn’t exactly what you would call easy. Now 11-1, is easy. You know you own a team when you are 11-1 against them since 2000. If you went 11-1 against Clemson, you could say they were easy to beat.11-1 is a true butt whoopin’. You would know Clemson was easy to beat if you could force their QB to throw the ball away on 4th down…. and you went 11-1 against them since 2000. If you went 11-1 against Clemson, they sure wouldn’t have any room to talk smack. You could ALMOST say that you “Run This State” if you were 11-1 against Clemson. But that’s only if you were 11-1….

dawg4life……that 7-5 contains Tech wins as the underdog against a Ranked or Higher Ranked team. UGa can’t say that against many teams now can they? Who has UGa BEAT when UGa was the underdog since 2001?

Vince,

That cheapshot was unwarranted. Robert is a fine young man who happens to be an awesome football player. Nobody here said he was or should be your “hero”. The reference to “superhero” was a play on his football ability juxtaposed with the question he was asked about what “super power” he would want. It was in fun. Surely you get that!

@ smart enough to know…if you were really smart enough to know, you would know that Clemson is scheduled to play UGA in 2013 and 2014. That may be in jeopardy due to Clemson asking out of the deal because of conference issues. My point was we will see (if they play the games) just how much the “dude” as you call him will elevate Clemson’s game. Too bad Tech can’t ask out of their games with UGA…you know they’d like to.

As one who appreciates realism and truthfulness, the SUNDROP KID takes umbrage with the diluted usage of the word “hero”. Heroes are much much than athletes could ever hope to be. Please do not diminish the proper definition of such a sincere word. Over-usage can have that effect. Has he actually done any deed that could be classified as “heroic”? Was the intent of this article possibly to make amends for earlier verbal misdeeds by the AJC writer? BTW, wasn’t one Mr. Greg Reid (Lowndes Co.) put up on a “pedestal” by such as the AJC not long ago? I guess we all know what has transpired there! Quote from a song years ago: “You build me up just to tear me down”.

bad brad………….Hal Lincoln writes: I read where the expanded ACC might be going to nine conference games as early as 2013, which could put the 2013-14 Georgia-Clemson home-and-home series in jeopardy. The problem is that Clemson already has four nonconference games scheduled for those years — their in-state rival South Carolina, Georgia and a pair of cupcakes. The thinking is Clem & Son might decide to keep the cupcakes and unload the series with the Dawgs. As someone who thinks Clemson was one of our best rivals and misses them being on our schedule every year, this is really upsetting. What do you think, Bill?

I saw the SicEmDawgs report you’re referring to. As you noted, in 2013 Clemson has nonconference games scheduled with Georgia, Kent State, the Citadel and South Carolina, and in 2014 plays Coastal Carolina, Central Michigan and South Carolina in addition to a scheduled trip to Athens. These would be the first times Georgia and Clemson have met in football since 2003. SicEmDawgs reported buying out the Georgia contract would cost Clemson $500,000 unless it was by mutual consent. But while a lot of folks think Clemson might be inclined to drop Georgia and keep the cupcakes, I’m not so sure. The state of Georgia is prime recruiting territory for the Tigers, and a showcase against Georgia of the SEC, including a game in Athens, might be worth more to Clemson than a guaranteed victory over a program nobody cares about. At least, I hope that’s how it turns out. I’m with you, Hal, in missing Georgia-Clemson on a regular basis.

All Speculation that Clem&sons MIGHT have to get out because of the ACC expansion. The TRUTH is the game might have to be moved a few years in the future as the ACC works in the new teams. Clem&sons has NEVER expressed any desire to drop the UGa games.

Get off the dude’s pole. Yes, it is wonderful seeing Georgia talent getting some press and fanfare, but I’m starting to see stalking as more of a proper term when describing Nkemdiche and the journalists writing and interviewing him every 4 minutes. The kid is not going to revolutionize the game, so let him breath and also us readers from seeing his name printed all up and down the sports page. I’m willing to bet that he will not have near the season his Freshman year as Jadaveon Clowney. That’s coming from a Georgia fan, not someone who even cares for South Carolina.
