DT Jay Woods (AJC)
Could UGA add another recruit today?
The Bulldogs are on a bit of a hot streak this week, adding a pair of safeties to the 2013 recruiting class which already has 26 commitments.
Will defensive tackle Jay Woods of Jackson High School be No. 27?
The 6-foot-3, 282-pounder will pick between UGA, Vanderbilt and Kentucky around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
He’s ranked as a 3-star by 247sports.
With Woods being from Georgia, there have been a lot of people around his hometown encouraging him to pick the Bulldogs.
“Yes sir, being from Georgia, and people seeing Georgia on my list, a lot of people around here want to see me go to Georgia,” Woods said. “I just tell them I’m talking it over with my family. I think I have a good feeling on where I want to go, but I’m not sure yet. I will let the world know on Thursday. I don’t feel pressure to go to Georgia. I feel like I will pick the school that is best for me … wherever I can say is another home for me.”
Here’s Woods on the three finalists:
UGA? “Basically what sets Georgia apart from everybody else is that it’s my home state school. I’ve been following them since I was a little kid, and you always dream about playing for Georgia and everything. That gives them an edge. And I’m in love with the defensive scheme that Todd Grantham came up with.”
Vanderbilt? “Coach [James Franklin] is a one of a kind. I’ve been to a lot of colleges, and I’ve never seen a coaching staff like theirs. They are high-energy type of people. With Coach Franklin, he’s family oriented. He treats his players as if they were his sons. I feel like they got something special going on there. I got a good feeling about Vanderbilt.”
Kentucky? “It’s a lot of the same things I like about Vanderbilt. I like the coaches.”

When ever a player decides not to choose Tech it’s fans always make the academic excuse.Maybe he just does not want to play there.Kentucky is not a football power but its in the mix..And its “too” not “to”

To much on the depth chart at UGA – likely to go to Vandy where he will get more playing time.

If he wants to be a Dawg, that’s great, but we’ve got bigger fish to fry along the defensive line.

He has a 4.0 in school; I doubt ‘to much’ education is the problem with Tech. More likely the lack of education outside of engineering majors. Oh and the subpar football performance.

This is a good get for Richt.
The State has 3 top-notch DTs & the number 1 guy, Montavious Adams is going to either the Barn or Clemson.
UGA needed to land at least 1 of the 3.

Funny, virtually every other service has him listing GA Tech, Clemson, and Missouri on the list as well, although I highly doubt they are seriously being considered (they have EACH been mentioned as recently as last night by Jay). Vandy is my persosonal guess unless UGA pulls a rabbit out of a hat on this one which is always possible.

Woods appears to be a solid young man who has excelled inside and outside the classroom. He actually seems to fit the “student/athlete” label! I would welcome him to the UGA family and look forward to seeing him help replace the starters that will be gone after this year.

Georgia is getting it done with recruiting on defense, but they have not shown that ability to recruit offensive lineman. The D is stacked for years to come, but the offensive line concerns me. I hope that they will be able to find a few more guys in this year’s class that they can build on for years to come. I think Theus is going to be a stud and he is starting as a freshmen spo we will see what happens.

My point, if you’re going to call out someone for a spelling or grammatical error, at least be sure not to do basically the same thing yourself!
But your point was also taken as well. The guy is obviously a moron!

Nothing to do with the one time you’ve beaten UGA in the last decade. It has more to do with the fact that your mothers and sisters can’t stay away from breeding with the barnyard animals and creating more of you morons

For some reason, I thought you could only sign 25 a year. Either they don’t expect all to show up, or they will have to tell a kid they don’t have a scholarship for them…Football can be so dirty, and coaches have these kids thinking they truly have their best interest at heart.

Whiskey- Yes, you may have a blackout jersey only if I can have one of those UL-Monroe jersey’s or a cover for my free textbook or maybe you could recommend a high school that would ‘take care of me academically’ or maybe you could call Mike Price and ask him about a good strip club to visit. Any of those would do.

you’ve brought more embarrassment on your own team than you have UGA, LOL. Maybe you could cut down on the probations and violations just a little, nah, then you couldn’t win all those N.C.s you’re so proud of. You spend a lot of time on the AJC/sports blog bragging. Funny, I don’t remember what you had to brag about on the 27 secondary violations you “admitted”.

Do we really need to be going for a 3* player when there are still 4’s and 5’s out there? Perhaps he will be a 4 star recruit by signing day? I’d love to hear what the coaches have to say about him, but with all the NCAA rules I guess that’s out.

@Big Crim: Woods is a DE – Adams to the Barn, UGA wants JUCO Toby Johnson DT 6′4″ 305 lbs he will be a December Grad, from Hutchinson C. C. Kansas and be able to enroll at UGA in Jan.
On another note; I was impressed with Bama’s DT Jesse Williams, on his ability to bench 600 lbs
