Georgia’s No. 1 WR signee waiting on NCAA approval to report to Auburn

JaQuay Williams signed with Auburn after last-minute flirtations with UGA (AJC)

Georgia’s No. 1 college football prospect at wide receiver will likely report to Auburn “in the next week or so,” according to his high school coach.

JaQuay Williams signed with Auburn last February after last-minute flirtations with UGA.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder from Sandy Creek High School has been held up by the NCAA’s Clearinghouse from reporting to Auburn with the rest of the freshmen class.

“JaQuay is just working out at the school,” Sandy Creek coach Chip Walker told the AJC on Sunday. “We’re about to get him taken care of. He will hopefully be at Auburn in the next week or so.”

What’s the holdup? Williams is finishing up one online class of summer school.

Originally, Williams thought he would be approved to report to Auburn in June until the NCAA ruled that classes he took at Faith Academy last summer would not count toward admission.

“It’s rough on JaQuay not being at Auburn, but I think he’s handling it really, really well under the circumstances, you know what I mean?” Walker said. “He understands that he had a lot of ground to make up when he came to us [transferring from Heard County to Sandy Creek at the end of his junior year].

“He made up all that ground and he is just waiting on one class. He has done really, really good for himself.”

What will happen if JaQuay doesn’t make it through the Clearinghouse? “The backup plan is probably for JaQuay to enroll at Auburn in January. He’s got his test scores and everything else is good. He’s just waiting on this one class.”

Auburn coach Gene Chizik and the rest of the staff have high hopes that Williams will join the team within a couple of weeks. “It’s my understanding, unless plans change, he’s not going to redshirt. He’s going to play for Auburn this season. I hope it works out for him to get down there. JaQuay is such a good kid, and he’s in great shape. I mean, he’s really looking good.”

Why not just move to Atlanta and get a fake diploma? That seems to be all the rage these days.

JaQuay wanted to go to UGA all along, but Rodney Garner waited until a month before signing day to even acknowledge that Williams existed. Typical UGA recruiting, we’re late to the party.

So instead of getting players that could help us this year, we award seven walk-ons scholarships. Unreal.

One of these days all the mess that Auburn get’s away with, because of loopholes and nobody willing to expose the lack of integrity and lack of other values, will come out enough to bring them down where they belong. I hate to down grade any program but Auburn seems to always have a controversy going on about their recruiting tactics. A lot of rules have been changed and modified because Auburn lives in the gray area trying to gain an advantage. What amazes me is how many really good recruit and their families are sucked into their questionable ways.

Williams is going where he wanted to go. The rest is just high school drama. UGA would probably have been happy to get this kid but keeping him in school might have presented a challenge. I am always amazed when after 12 years in school and having counselors all the way, they “suddenly” don’t qualify for the next level.
And, yes, I believe Auburn lives on the fringe of legality.

Product of Georgia education system.
You guys need to prepare your students better…especially the top talented ones that prefer to play out of state.

All of the top tier programs in the country thank you in advance.

Another top GA player signs with Auburn, imagine that, is there a pattern here? Play at Auburn and have a chance to win a National Championship (2010) or play at UGA and mark ritch will get you credit for him walking old ladies across the street, getting cats out of trees and getting routed in the sec championship game. LOL!

It is going to be hard for him to have an impact normally, having missed so much practice time, but we are talking about Auburn, so how much he has actually missed, is probably open to debate.

@ Irving… Perhaps the fact that the kid cannot report to Auburn due to grades, maybe that had something to do with UGA not jumping all over him. And we are talking about can’t report to Auburn, which is not Harvard or even UGA. If he can’t report now, what are the odds he stays eligible. You guys are the low water mark of the SEC when it comes to morals, integrity, character, and class but somehow I don’t think you realize it.

OMG… So this kid was at a private school and tranfers to a public school? How can that happen? in GA ! Oh wait it is Sandy Creek hs. The place where kids tranfer once their school is eliminated from the playoffs. The reason UGA did not sign him first maybe he moves around too much. This seems to be a growing trend in GA. Lets have a one year sit out please from GHSA.

45-7 – Keep saying that over and over, because that is all the dawgs can hang their hat on. Pitiful. Congrats, you beat a crappy Auburn team. So did four other teams.

Ole Dawg – You keep telling yourself that was the reason he didn’t go to UGA. I know, you guys never wanted the # 1 receiver in the state. Hail UGA, the baston of all academic institutions and the leader in the SEC…pffft. We’re the low water mark…now that’s is good. Now how many guys do you have suspended for the 1st game again ?

You have to keep the best in state players at home. When you start losing them to other programs that’s a definite indicator that something is wrong. Look at what Spurrier is accomplishing by keeping South Carolina’s best in state and playing for the flagship university.

watched this kid training this summer and he is a monster receiver. he dwarfs the defensive backs and creates a huge advantage for himself. I hate to say it but this kid is gonna be a monster at auburn and i hope he does not end up burning us in a future game but chances are he will. will be fun to watch him and wiggins compete in the future. two former high school teammates should create alot of jawing.

Why does the UGA Plantation Nation act so ignorantly all the time? Auburn is a GA school they have dropped out of state tuition and love that Hope Scholarship money…

They have 50 years of covering up paper trails so you may as well forget ever getting the goods on them.

I swear if you people don’t think UGA bends the rules like every other big time program, I think you are sadly mistaken don’t forgive bad management for ethical standards.

If you do I have some Gulf Coast property to sell you in Fulton County.

Typical idiot UGA sidewalk fans. I don’t think UGA cheats. I played for Auburn, under Chizik and nothing goes on.

The whole thing with Jovon Robinson and a transcript being faked…isn’t it logical that Auburn would’ve faked Jaquay’s since he is higher rated and a big need…oh wait, they didn’t, he’s waiting on clearance.

Because UGA sucks and can’t get through a cupcake schedule all you can do is: everyone else cheats. Give me a break losers. That is what you are.

Auburn is in deep crap regarding Jovon Robinson, a RB recruit from Memphis. His transcripts were falsified, he is riding around in a brand new sports car and his mother has $135,000 in the bank she claims she “inherited”.

This young man didn’t have the grades to get into UGA. The PATTERN here is that kids who don’t qualify grade wise for UGA are accepted at Auburn. It was true before, true when my kids were finishing up High School, and will be true in the future—-its no secret.

DC, you hear banjo’s playing because they are on your front porch next to the TransAm under the tree on blocks.
The fact is that GA did not recruit this kid very hard because Garner and Richt knew that he wouldn’t qualify. If you can’t get into UGA, then you go to Clemson or Auburn.
