Does anybody really think that Davin Bellamy will pick Florida State over Vanderbilt on Saturday?
Bellamy is a 6-foot-4, 235-pound defensive end from Chamblee High School who is one of the state’s most-heavily recruited college prospects with 33 football scholarship offers. His first offer was from Georgia Tech, and he also claims a UGA offer.
At Chamblee’s media day shortly after noon on Saturday, Bellamy will commit to either Florida State or Vanderbilt.
Who do you think Bellamy will pick? We’ve been wrong before, but how often does Vanderbilt beat out FSU for a top recruit?

DE Davin Bellamy has 33 offers
We asked Bellamy: Are any of his friends predicting a Vanderbilt upset? “Well, they do think with my personality, I will go to Vanderbilt and be the man as soon as I step on campus. But most people know my dream is to play in the NFL, and most people think Florida State would get me there. Therefore, a lot of people think I will pick Florida State.”
I guess that Bellamy’s hint, or his own prediction, on what will unfold on Saturday.
He also had this to say earlier this week about recently visiting both Vanderbilt and Florida State with his mother: “From an academic standpoint, Vanderbilt went better. From a football standpoint, FSU … 33 straight years of winning seasons, 27 straight years of NFL first-round draft picks. Once you walk into FSU, you know it’s a football town. It’s ridiculous.”

I believe you ment to say “Does anybody really think that Davin Bellamy will pick Vanderbilt over Florida State on Saturday?” But to answer your question, yes I think it’s possible. He has academic aspirations in addition to his football ones (according to an interview I saw). Also, Vanderbilt is an up and coming football program. He wouldn’t be the first to choose Vandy over a bigger name program.

Unfortunately, he’ll be picking FSU tomorrow, but not because he liked it better than VU.

FSU is loaded with young DEs…..I say he picks Vandy for the school and the opportunity to play early. I hope he does. He sure appears a lot smarter than Reid and has no need of free shoes.

Speaking of former Georgia high school recruits…..people in Georgia should be happy to hear about the progress of Neiron Bell. He suffered a life threatening issue in his brain (massive swelling of a blood vessel) and has recovered fully surgery and therapy and is playing extremely well in practice so far. Great story. He has a chance to have a big impact on the Gator defense this year.
Speaking of DEs that did not pick FSU when it appeared they would…….Dante Fowler is making a big impression on Gator coaches and players so far in practice.

Tampa,
Dante Fowler didn’t want to compete for a spot. At least he was a man about it and stated that we had a lot of competition at the DE position. I also think his kid will pick VU because of the reason you stated.

ATLNole……
I beg to differ with you thinking about Fowler. He stated the exact opposite at the time. Dante Fowler was a 5-star DE coming out of high school and I doubt very seriously he had any issues with competing for a spot at FSU. The fact is: his family is ALL GATOR and they had more to do with his switch that anything else. That is what his family said…and that is what Fowler said. If Fowler had gone to FSU, he would be pushing for a starting postion at DE there just as he is at Florida.

and….ATL Nole….
the Gator coaches did a great job of getting Fowler to understand the impact he could have in the Gator defense….and that he would have the opportunity to work with Ronald Powell….who he became close with…..and then be able to take over when Powell leaves. Unfortuantely, Powell went down in the spring….and that opened the door for Fowler even more.
The recruiting situation was not that dissimilar from the 5-star DT from Lake City last year. His coach is a FSU dude and he did a great job of getting Jernigan (I believe that was his name) turned to the Noles (like Fowler’s family)….and you could say that he was afraid to compete with Easley, Floyd, and Howard…..but that was not true either.

“The fact is: his family is ALL GATOR.”- Tampa Gator
Quit making things up. Dante’s father is was a huge FSU fan.
“Fowler said the majority of his family members — most notably his father — are FSU fans and they initially wanted him to be a Nole. However, he said that has changed.”
“Honestly, at first they wanted me to go to Florida State,” Fowler recalled. “But both of them are good schools, so my family really doesn’t care which one I go to now.”

I know what the real deal was and he said it. It’s no biggie because he is from my home town of St. Pete. and I have a lot of love for him. I wish him the best of luck except for the last game on the schedule. He should do well if he works hard.

Tampa Gator,
His dad was an FSU fan. Younger brother was a UF fan.
He stated on signing day he was concerned about depth at FSU for DE. Ahead of him for 2012 were 3 NFL players, plus the #1 and #5 DEs in his class in Edwards and Casher. You may or may not remember Jimbo being asked about it and saying “great players never worry about a depth chart”.
Fowler’s switch had to do with Jason Higdon constantly telling him that Leonard Williams was a silent commit to FSU, and that the FSU staff was lying to him when they said LW wasn’t. NSD rolls around, and Leonard’s school had their signing ceremony at 11 AM, and Fowler’s school had theirs at 9-10 AM. When this was pointed out to Dante a couple days before, Higdon pointed out that Leonard’s ceremony was after his because the FSU coaches wanted to get his letter of intent in before Leonard announced.
Dante decided the FSU coaches were lying to him and his dad and decided to sign with UF because of that. The mythical silent commitment of LW only amplified his concerns about the depth chart at FSU.
So when you talk about the Fowler story, don’t forget to include how a “journalist” lied to a kid to get him to go to his favorite school.
Oh and that silent commit? FSU spent all morning on the phone with him trying to get him to come to FSU. They had not been recruiting him hard because his spot was taken by Dante.
Dante had a record of disrespecting his high school coaches, his father, and lying to multiple college coaches. His act of spite about a fictional event created by a hack fanboy writer effectively cost FSU a scholarship DE for the 2012 class and could have affected depth of a position. Don’t forget this kid’s decision making effects coaches and their families. Nole fans were sick of this kid by the fall of his senior year.
I’m never one to bash a kid, but his behavior was over the line.

@ATL Nole…..
Classy response….unlike the Nole fan below….who thinks attacking Fowler’s character is appropriate.
@Nole your history…..
Fowler played at Lakewood, which along with Gibbs, has a lot of troubled high school students in their school populations. Fowler went through that program with no issues of which I am aware. I know he had to work very hard to get his academics in line so he could qualify to get into Florida. That was never an issue with FSU. Once Fowler found out that he had met the academic requirements to get into Florida, it made it a done deal for him to become a Gator. You can dog on the kid all you want, but I have a lot of respect for what the Fowler has accomplished and is accomplishing with his life. His degree from Florida will mean a lot to him some day…unless he leaves early for the NFL, which he most likely will have the opportunity to do. And I am sure Mr. Manual will have plenty of opportunity this year to be introduced formally to Mr. Fowler, Mr. Easley, Mr. Floyd, Mr. Bostic, Mr. Jenkins, Mr. Ball and a whole host of Florida Gator defensive players…..remember last year….less than 100 yards of total offense…..well…..THEY ARE ALL BACK WITH MUCH MORE TO BACK THEM UP. And Brantley is gone. See ya in Tallahassee. Should be a good one.

He doesn’t pull any punches about his desire to use college as a pipeline to the NFL. At least he is honest about it. I think he might have a little bit of an ego problem, but the reality of big time football will temper that some what, once he hits the practice field. He will have to establish his rep. once again, at the college level. He might want to think about adding some muscle to his frame, and he will most likely have the time to do that at FSU. Don’t know how much of a depth problem Vanderbilt has at DE, but a 235 pound DE in the SEC, is going to have trouble on the field. SEC LB’s are bigger than that for the most part. He must have a pretty high ceiling of potentiality though, if the rating services are close to right. I don’t think he will see the field a lot this year though, is my guess.

Tampa Gator – glad to hear the young man is recovering nicely. While Gators hate Dogs and Dogs hate Gators (and I can hate Gators with the best of them !) when you hear a story like this you realize what is important in life. I hope he continues to recover, has a great career and can realize his dreams, whatever they are. EXCEPT the last Saturday in October. Go Dawgs

There are 100 red flags and a whole book you could write about these comments… My guess is that he will amount to little or nothing… Hope I am wrong, but with this attitude it’s hard to say how long it will take to either make him or break him…. My advice to you if I were his father… Kid, YOU have to work hard and prove yourself no matter what college he chooses.. You wont be able to walk on anywhere in this country and be the “man”…. and hey, it’s up to YOU to make it to the NFL… Good luck. It’s pitiful the bratty, crappy attitudes these kids have these days..

@Bazooka Joe…..
Classy response. Thank you. I typed his name incorrectly…..not Neiron Bell….Neiron Ball. Sorry about that. This kid almost died because the blood vessels in his brain got twisted and caused major swelling in his brain. He underwent dangerous surgery and months and months of medical treatments and therapy to fully recover and live out his dreams again on the football field. The doctors say the situation will not happen again and he can go full out on the football field. I can’t wait to see him do that against Bowling Green….and I am sure the Gator fans in THE SWAMP that day are going to give him a standing ovation. He earned it. He would just not give up on his dreams. He is the exact opposite of the Honeybadgers of the world.
Speaking of the Honeybadger…..the response of the LSU fans overall has been very surprising. They have come down hard on Miles and ESPN reported that they are very upset with Miles for kicking him off the team. Amazing. I guess at LSU, it doesn’t matter what you do as long as you WIN BABY. I guess drug use is condoned on the LSU team by LSU fans.

This is college football recruiting…..I don’t get mad about college recruiting. I get mad when I stub my big toe walking barefoot around the house or when I smash my finger using a hammer. I don’t even get mad when Florida loses to Georgia…..but I sure hate it when it occasionally happens….about 4 times every 22 years lately.

Good luck to Tre Bell at Vandy. He is going to earn first string duty early there. But don’t get too excited Dawg fans or USC Trojan fans……and rumor has it…….both Shaq Wiggins and Jalen Ramsey have a strong interest in Florida and this opens the door for one of them to flip. Also….opens the door for two other highly ranked CBs that have Florida high on their list.
Caleb Brantley has gotten his feelings hurt earlier and talked about decommitting…..before Muschamp and the staff had the opportunity to talk to him. But he needs to come to Florida because he wants to be at Florida…..and not because another commit is no longer committed or an offer to a commit has been withdrawn for a good reason. If he decides to flip to FSU….then good luck to him as well. Florida will get someone to replace him if he does….but I hope he stays committed to the Gators. He is a good one.

Think this had something to do with Bell no longer being a Gator commit:
Current Gator CBs….
Marcus Roberson….Soph.
Luichez Purifoy…..Soph.
Jalen Watkins…..Jr.
Cody Riggs….jr.
Brian Poole…fr. (will now play safety)
Vernon Haergraves……5 star commit
I think the Gators realized the young depth and talent they have a CB and also realized that they needed to open a spot for a big time player that is rumored to be ready to decommit from the Noles to the Gators.
Man…..rumors and goings on in college recruiting sure stirs up a lot of interesting possibilties…..a chess match for us all….

For someone supposedly smart — you could not have made a dumber decision,
Vandy or fsu — No Brainer – Vandy all the way
Vandy – great scholastics
Vandy – SEC
Vandy – great young coach turning things around
The good thing is you have time to change your decision, the sooner the better for you
