Tennessee's Derek Dooley has 16 commits for 2013, including two from Georgia (AP)Jonesboro High School teammates Cameron Sutton and Taurean Ferguson will be playing for rivals SEC schools.
Jonesboro High School teammates Cameron Sutton and Taurean Ferguson will be playing for rivals SEC schools.
Sutton committed to Tennessee over Arkansas, Pitt and Georgia Tech, among others, on Tuesday night. The 6-foot, 180-pounder will play cornerback. Ferguson, who also is a Jonesboro corner, committed to Vanderbilt earlier this summer.
“Cam went to Tennessee’s camp in July and kind of fell in love with them right away,” Jonesboro coach DeTimothy Floyd told the AJC. “He took his parents back up there to visit the campus and talk to the coaches. Once they checked out everything, they were all right with him committing.
“I think the biggest thing in Tennessee’s favor may have been the depth chart. Cameron may have the chance to play early. The closer on the deal was his parents’ blessing during the visit.”
What about Georgia Tech and the others? His spot at Georgia Tech had likely already been filled by another recruit. “Once Cam fell in love with Tennessee, he sort of lost interest in every other school.”
Sutton plays both ways for Jonesboro’s football team, and is also one of the school’s top baseball talents. He projects to play cornerback in college.
“With Cam, Tennessee is getting a great player and a hard worker,” Floyd said. “He’s somebody who is determined to be the best at what he is doing. He’s somebody who will work harder than most everyone you come around. He’s an excellent man-to-man corner, as well as zone corner. He’s very smart.”

Don’t shoot the messenger, but some possible trouble may be brewing with bama and a recruit supposedly transferring to a bama high school as the result of some friendly persuasion by a said bama coach…info is coming from the young man’s high school coach…according to the article, info has been given to Alabama high school association and others…

as of right now gt has 13 commits with one opening left unless somebody leaves the team.
gt is not a team that has the attrition that a program like the dawgs have.
gt is still looking to fill its needs on the defensive line. their main target for that lone spot is 4 star defensive tackle jay woods.
we are not looking to sign any more d backs right now.
so we did not miss out on this guy. if anything he missed out on us.

@gt did not miss out on this guy, you beat me to the punch. Right now, we’ve got one scholly, maybe two if CPJ plans on at least one defection. We’re waiting on Jay Woods or Jay Ellison to make a decision. If that doesn’t pan out, we’ve got a DE we’re looking at pretty heavily.
Michael, any word on whether or not small classes in one year lead to strong classes the next? I would think GT has at least a little extra time to keep recruiting for the class of 13. That will be a big one.

I hope he gets a great education in a field that will set him up for life.
GT should only have 17 or 18 scholarships per year if the player stays for the “normal” 5 years. I haven’t seen evidence of running off kids unlike some SEC schools.

Of course Uga didnt want him, thats why he went to Tennessee. Only in the minds of a Uga fan would that even be a thought. He may very well be a future star. Go Vols !

UGA did not even recruit the kid. Yall have to take into consideration the amount of D1 kids the state of GA puts out every year. UGA nor GT can sign them all. It gets old reading all these post saying “how did we let this kid go somewhere else.” Its bc we did not recruit him bc we have other players higher on the board. UGA is already full at CB and GT, I believe, is full too. Might want to learn more about your schools recruiting before you bash them for not getting a player. Im happy for this kid and i hope he enjoys his time playing college football and gets his education.

Good post. Some of the posters here seem rather naive about the recruiting game- scholarship limits, how many ships at a certain position, how different schools have players rated differently.
UGA cannot offer every single D-1 prospect in the state. Just because a player does not get the coveted UGA offer does not mean he is not a good prospect though.

GT has 1 scholly left……GT isn’t pushing any kids for commitments right now. More than likely, we’re going to hold onto this scholly until later in the season and only press when we need to. Good pickup for UT, but he just wasn’t a priority for GT.

A VERY WISE CHOICE. YOU PLAY IN FRONT OF A TENTH OF A MILLION EVERY WEEKEND.
THAT’S WHY ERIC BERRY AND PEYTON MANNING CHOSE TENNESSEE.
THE VOLS ARE THE SECOND BEST WINNING PROGRAM IN THE SEC. KNOXVILLE IS A GREAT COLLEGE TOWN.
THE VOLS WILL BE BACK BIG TIME AND THIS KID WILL CONTRIBUTE BIG TIME AT UT.
