Will Tray Matthews (No. 26) join his buddy Reuben Foster (No. 2 jersey) at Auburn? Or stick with UGA? (AJC)
Longtime UGA commit Tray Matthews finally visited Auburn with his father over the weekend.
“It was good,” Matthews told the AJC on Sunday. “I wanted to go to Auburn and check it out with my dad. He hadn’t been anywhere except for Georgia. It went really well. I wanted to get his input. Maybe my dad would see something I don’t see.”
And what did Tray’s father see? “He told me that Auburn is a great school, too, but he loves Georgia. Both schools are great. I’m asking for God to lead me the way. I’m still committed to Georgia but if it’s not the right place for me, then God will lead me elsewhere.
“Georgia has a place in my heart. I’m still 100-percent committed to Georgia. I talked with parents about it this morning, and they still feel the same way about Georgia. They love it there, and they’re kind of telling me to stay loyal to my decision.
“And then Auburn is right up there competing against Georgia.”
The 6-foot-2, 207-pound safety from Newnan High School said if he decided to switch his commitment from Auburn to Georgia, it would be within the next month. Matthews will consult with his parents but the final decision is his. “It will be soon. I don’t want to keep this going on too long.”
Matthews has been flirting with Auburn for three reasons: It’s close to home, he could compete for a starting position as a freshman (as he may do at UGA, also), and his best friend Reuben Foster has committed to Auburn.
Tray Matthews and Reuben Foster made a public pledge to play together in college because they’re such good friends.
However, now that deal is in doubt after Foster got a gigantic Auburn tattoo on his arm after flipping from Alabama. Matthews had been trying to convince Foster to play with him at Georgia.

Reuben Foster's gigantic Auburn tattoo on his forearm
“I can’t sway him to Georgia now because of the tattoo,” Matthews said. “It’s official now with Reuben and Auburn. There’s nothing I can do about that. I was working on Georgia with him, but I can’t do it now, as everyone can see.”
So should UGA fans be worried about the pact with Foster? “That was the plan to play together in college, but I don’t know now. I mean, I would love to play with him. If it comes down to my heart and staying at Georgia, I’ve got to do what I’ve got to do.”
RELATED: UGA recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner told the AJC’s Chip Towers said that UGA “didn’t even probably contact probably a fifth” of the 19 Penn State players that the Big Ten school was notified of interest from the Bulldogs. The list was revealed after a public records request by media outlets. “Somebody needs to call Nick and see what list they sent in.” He was referring to Alabama’s Nick Saban. Garner also confirmed UGA will sign around 34 this year, with 9-10 enrolling early.

Rodney Garner… I highly doubt you will find said list because it is very unlikely Bama recruited any of those players. You see Rodney, unlike jawja, Bama has not self imposed scholarship reductions because our coaching staff understands the importance of roster management. I hope you and Helen Hunt enjoy handing out those extra scholarships to the walk on players this fall cause it will hurt in the fall. I suspect you and the other Jawja coaches are embarrassed that list came out. All that in state talent and you are having to beg Penn State players. Sad.

Why would Mathews switch to the Barn? He has a realistic shot at starting at safety at UGA. Depth chart at UGA is very favorable compared to Auburn. Academics at UGA are far superior to Auburn. Richt is the dean of SEC coaches and just signed a new contract. UGA has basically pummeled Auburn on the field the last ten years with the exception of one year(Cam). Basically there is only ONE reason to go to Auburn over UGA – $$$$$$$$$$!!!!!! The best predictor of the future is the past history and well we all know Auburn’s past history. The dirtiest little village on the plains. Throw honesty and integrity out the window as fast as Trooper Taylor can turn his hat around backwards! Come on Tray you are smarter than this. Everybody and their brother can see what the Barn is trying to do to you.

Why go to a program at UGA that always sells PT to recruits and ends the year in the top 10 in recruiting but never turns those kids into champions? Instead go to Auburn and play in the SEC West against great programs AND win championships while getting ready for the NFL by getting coached up by Wilie Martinez and Brian VanGorder.

The double standard in the mind of UGA fans is remarkable. If you win at anything, it’s because you are UGA and you are the greatest team in the nation. If you lose at anything, it’s because the other guys cheated. Nevermind that AU is closer to his home, his friend is there, their depth chart is thin, and the fact that Richt underachieves with his talent every year.

When your buddy Foster got the gigantic tattoo , it should have told you he didn’t care if you liked Georgia more and playing with you in college was not a priority. He is saying I control this and your opinion doesn’t count.
What happens if Auburn go’s back under NCAA investigation and they finally get burned for the unethical practices that they are doing because they are keep finding loopholes. 75% of the student body go’s home on the weekend because there in nothing to do at a country college town.
If you are serious about maybe going to Auburn then I suggest you go to a few of the Georgia games with your parents and go to a few of the Auburn games before making your final decision.
Just remember when a recruit commits as early as you did there was a reason for that . Don’t let Auburn talk you into going there if you really love Georgia as much as you and your family say you all do.

Matthews family can expect the same “favors” to be offered now that it worked for the Reuben Foster clan. Auburn is getting very skilled at hiding this stuff after the Cam Newton “church money” investigation Bama does some questionable stuff as well, all through high school “booster clubs” that cover any money trail. Auburn has multiple techniques. The NCAA is too short-sighted to figure anything out. If they ever do, watch one or both of Bama and Auburn to get hit hard like Penn State did. Meanwhile, I’ll just keep quiet so that my family isn’t threatened and I don’t get black-balled while trying to do my job.

Tray Matthews has his hand on the door knob at UGA…. I will be most interested in his timing… spent allot of time with Trooper Taylor & good friend Reuben Foster they could be planning another scheme. (matching AU tattoo’s)
UGA has lined up Shaq Fluker and Paris Bostick if Tray does decide to flip.
Tyren Jones visited Athens this weekend with his teammate and UGA commit Josh Cardiello… so if Bama does add Derrick Henry to their RB commit list, they could loose Jones to UGA.
Good news: Look for Alvin Kamara to commit to UGA at any moment. Norcross likes for their players to announce before the HS season starts and it is usually done at the Duke House, on picture day.
Montravious Adams is interested in the two teams that will open the season in Atlanta, at the Pay-4-Play Game, Auburn & Clemson.

We have no idea how smart he really is. What he really wants to study. Who will get injured or leave for the NFL early or get kicked out of a school to make say UGa a better choice closer to National Signing Day.
If on signing some kids change their mind or Holdout to sign after some of the other big names sign then there could be some Flipping. I don’t thin it is Flipping before the season has even started or a kid doesn’t have ALL the info to make a good informed decision.

The only reason anyone would want to attend AU is because they were denied by their first 5 choices. AU was near losing accreditation a few years ago because of giving grades not only to football players but regular students. As for as football goes, Van Gorder will be gone within 2 years, he will be gone in 2 weeks if an offer comes he likes. Lastly, lets not forget a football player entering AU for the 2013 season is likely to be facing sanctions, possibly no bowl games and worse yet, those awful biker shorts they have to practice in. So Tray, or any other kid, pick AU and have a new DC before you get to campus, the possibility of your degree not even being reconized and getting to wear those spandex shorts to practice. Those shorts are just silly.

Don’t get played man. CTG is your best choice and you know this in your heart. Don’t be swayed by a cheap tattoo. Be a part of a “Great Defense”, but be 100% or don’t waste our time. “100% committed” that is a joke! Kid says one thing, then in the next sentence he makes a complete turn around stating that Auburn is “right up there”! He is doing the same thing that RF did, playing a recruiting game. RF also stated that he loved UGA, but he went to AU; if they loved UGA so much, both would had made “SOLID PUBLIC PLEDGES” to UGA; but when you are looking, you ain’t “SOLID”!

Ga doesn’t pay players, Oversign players and they don’t allow their players to do drugs with no penalty-see Michael Dyer. The Athens Clark County police don’t work for the home team like they do at Auburn.
Where else could a player plan a robbery with his team mates and supply the gun for the robbery and not only never miss a game, while the local PD covered it all up as long as possible.
Mark Richt would have sent Dyer packing right after the Robbery. Chizik covered it up as long as possible. Auburn is as Dirty as they come. What message is Chizik sending his players? Cheat as often as you can.

Auburn got scre@@@ in 2004. At the end of the year they were the best team in the nation.
I know the loyal Auburn fans are proud of the National Title in 2010 but if it wasn’t for Cam Newton I don’t think anyone would argue that Auburn would have lost at least 4 or 5 games. It is hard to think of Auburn as a winner in 2010 because of the effort of mainly one guy who wasn’t any more of a Auburn Tiger than a Freshman who had been to Auburn for one Semester. Newton ended his Auburn career with 6 hour credit or 2 subject, at least that is what I read. If I was a player on the team I would be glad that we won the National Title in 2010 since the media cheated them out of even trying in 2004 but If I was a player I certainly wouldn’t think of Cam Newton as a true Auburn Tiger.

Understandingly so, most on here have not gone through a recruiting process. Based on my experience, when I was 17 years old I know I was committed to a school, but when someone offered me to come to their school I went. It’s so heady for young men that age, It’s a trip, a free trip, your ego is getting built up. No kid is going to turn down seeing other schools. Trey is sold on UGA, but he will probably take another trip or two. It’s the nature of the beast!

Some of you are so out of touch. The NCAA did a thorough 15-month investigation of the entire Auburn athletic program and found no (that’s ZERO) violations. Clean as a whistle. The final comment from the NCAA’s director of enforcement: “We did everything that can be done. We took our time and did a thorough job. There’s nothing there.” Yet some of you continue to barf out stuff about Cam Newton! Find a new subject, that lie is no longer working for you.
How many other schools could stand up to an investigation like that an come away clean? Very few, if any. One thing they did find out is those four former players that were on the HBO special were paid to lie. Who paid them? HBO’s director of sports programming, who is a big bammer fan and season ticket holder over in Tuskaloser. Surprise, surprise!

Aubarn is probably the next best thing to a college education but the diploma is more like a certificate of achievement that you get from a technical school.

Yep……Auburn should have two national titles during that period. Georgia should have won the national title in…I believe…..2007…..as well….the year they played Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl….what an insult that was. SEC champ playing Hawaii. That will never happen again. No one beats that Georgia team in a bowl game that year. That was a hell of a football team.

I am not sure now why Tunsil does not just go ahead and announce that he is committing to Georgia. I think that is a done deal now…..and with Theus playing RT…..I think the Georgia coaches are acknowleging it without actually saying it…..or at least sending a strong message to Tunsil that he is their LT for the future. No way Florida moves Humprhies (true freshman) to RT to make room for him….with a very talented Chaz Green (soph) as the RT for the future. Both Florida and Georgia are going to have very good offensive lines in the future. Some young studs on both teams.

I don’t know how many Georgia fans think like I do but as far as I am concerned you are 100% wrong the way some of us feel about Van Gorder. I for one think the reason Georgia had such a great defense when he was at Georgia was because of his ability as a Coordinator and his recruiting ability, it wasn’t because of Martinez like Richt thought. Van Gorder is a leader , Martinez is a very good coach but is a follower.
What I fear is that I will be proven right about Van Gorder and Auburn will have one of the best Defense in the SEC in just a few years that will rival any.

I feel for this kid, no matter what he does he’s breaking his word. If he goes to Georgia he’s breaking his word to foster about playing together, if he switches to Auburn he’s breaking his commitment to Uga fans, coaches, and players.
Either choice is completely justifiable as both schools are great places to play. I think the most telling sign will be what his family says on the matter. I’m hoping he picks Auburn as an alumni, but riecht seems like a good man, so I wouldn’t be upset if he chose Uga. The most important thing is when foster was bama committed Saban didn’t even come close to getting him to flip to Alabama. I hope bama fans enjoy this season, because come 2013 they’re going to be bummed out when the sparkle finally fades from Saban and they realize there’s a gaggle of other coaches that can out recruit him

@thebear Miles, Sweeney, and Chizik have all received former bama commits this season. The luster of Sabans success at LSU helped with his first few recruiting classes, which lead to a national title, then that national title gave bama provenance once again, leading to last years title. Which, if it was not for Oklahoma state blowing it would have been a moot point. Shouldn’t a national championship be doing more for these recruits then it is? With as many flips as there have been it seems like something is scaring them off from Alabama.
The Bear

The perception that Bama is losing recruits is just that a perception. Bama unlike a lot of other schools fills their needs at positions by need. Bama has had excellent recruiting classes 4 number #1 classes, but to be honest I don’t put any weight in recruiting class rankings. Bama coaches their player’s up and gets the most out of their players. Talk to me when the ink is dried on the paper, then it means something. Any good SEC school is not going to offer any package deals for one player.

RELATED: UGA recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner told the AJC’s Chip Towers said that UGA “didn’t even probably contact probably a fifth” of the 19 Penn State players that the Big Ten school was notified of interest from the Bulldogs.
i guess rodney if of the school of thought that if you repeat a lie often enough it becomes true. lmao
didnt reverend richt lie and say that uga wasnt interested in any of those players? which is it?
fact … ugag is under the limit by about 18 schollies
fact… ped state u had 19 players available which could have made a clean transfer without penalty to ugag.
fact… ugag has the reputation for attracting recruits with low moral character ala crowell. the exact opposite of the typical ped state u player.
fact… ugag contends for the fulmer cup almost every year
more likely than not none of those ped state players wanted to come to a program with the rep that ugag has.
toooo funny!
denying that they contacted any ped state u players was nothing more than damage control for the frawgs.

Thank you to the ajc and the ignorant dawg fans for the entertainment. I know most dawg fans are not ignorant, but it seems that the minority flock to post comments on this site. Don’t blame Nick Saban and others for your problems. THIS JUST IN: Uga has not played alabama since 2008. Nick Saban and Alabama don’t have any feelings about uga. Why would they? Why does uga spend so much time thinking about a team they have not faced in four years? It’s a problem that you have and this problem is a cancer. It certainly does not help the dawgs on saturdays. Focus on the thing you can control, and uga’s potential might someday be reached.
