Octavius Jackson: Florida lands rising star from South Georgia

Florida-bound OL Octavius Jackson (Special)

When you’re hot, you’re hot.

Octavius Jackson, a 6-foot-4, 290-pounder from Colquitt County High School, virtually came out of nowhere to be one of the state’s hottest prospects over the last week.

Jackson was offered a football scholarship by the Florida Gators on Tuesday and committed on Friday, despite last-minute pleas by Alabama and Florida State to wait a little longer. His other offers were Vanderbilt and South Florida.

“People have missed on him,” Colquitt County coach Rush Propst said. “His only true offer until a few days ago was Vanderbilt, and they couldn’t believe nobody else was on him. Neither could I.

“I think Octavius is the wave of the future for offensive linemen. Offenses have changed so much, to spread-type offenses, you need athletic kids because of all the screen plays and draws. I think he’s the most suited for that than any kid I’ve ever coached.”

Propst said Jackson “has as much or more upside than any kid he’s ever coached” because of his athleticism, he’s young for his grade (recently turned 17 years old), and has only been playing defense for one year. That includes Florida State’s left tackle, Cameron Erving, and UGA offensive lineman Xzavier Ward.

“I think he’s a 4-star all day long, and I think in some areas he’s a 5-star because of his potential,” Propst said.

Jackson is ranked as a 3-star by 247sports.com

Spread? That’s not the gators offense now. Coach should be a bit more enlightened to educate his players.

If that is the case, why is UGA losing prospects right and left to out of state programs. Richt is lazy.

@Ga is Vandy… We can’t sign them all. Just in case you missed it, we got commitment #24 today for next yr. How many does your school (GT?) have? We’re NEVER going to get them all because there are limits on #’s of schollies and some kids just want to get away for whatever reason.

to the TROLL above:

UGA just got Trenton Brown

Tunsil is next

These kids are rated much higher than jackson

Jackson appears to be a great kid and may be a late bloomer but UGA will not offer him

The comment by Coach Probst is dead on correct and that is why our OL for 2012 will be better than 2011.

They’ll be done with who they want before all other schools….worry about your own schools trolls.
UGA might be half through with Feb. 2014 recruiting class.

No one on here knows who is on UGAs board but this kid probably wasn’t. If his coach is right, he should have a fine college career.

Rush is a great coach and understands the dynamics of the OLine. Maybe we should hire him now. We miss on so many in the state that go to other SEC teams, yet we love the out of state Christian Academy kids and lower classification and private school kids. Trent Brown is athletic, and I hope he has changed his attitude since his days at a private school in Albany. Hopefully, GMC had made him grow up. I have serious concerns with Cardellio and Bynum.

It was strange that the head coach mentioned spread offenses (which Vandy runs I believe) and which Florida does not….yet he committed to Florida. But the Florida coaches are always looking for OL that can pull and block in the pro style…and this kid can do that. The Florida guards do a lot of pulling, and Jackson will play OG at Florida. Sorry…..a late Georgia offer will not get this kid to Athens. He was blown away by his visit to Florida during FNL….and the Florida coaches were tremendously impressed with him. Welcome to GatorNation….Mr. Jackson.

P.S…..to all of you people saying Tunsil has eliminated the Gators. If so, why has he not cancelled his official to Floridia yet? I think Georgia and Bama are probably 1 and 2 right now…..but Tunsil has not been to THE SWAMP yet for a live game yet….to my knowledge……or a Saturday in Gainesville for all the game day festivities. All that could change things if he keeps his official to Gainesville in the fall. We will see. It is a long way to signing day….and I believe Tunsil is not going to commit unntil then.

1eyedjack….

Maybe the Georgia coaches should trip to Penn State less and to Moultrie more often…..as Bama and FSU coaches have certainly taken notice of the kid. He also did not camp in Athens….and did at FNL in Gainesville just recently. He impressed the hell out of the Florida coaches…..who had not offered him until they saw him in person. I would expect the kid will be rated a 4-star or 5-star lineman by signing day.

Taylor is Fred Taylor’s son……will be a Gator…..recruited by Hill.

Rob Johnson…..OT….has been waivering for a while now…..but still committed. Recruited by Hill.

Those are the only players currently committed to the Gators that Aubry Hill has anything to do with recruitment wise. So….may two players will be impacted.

This guy SKINT knows what the hell he’s talking about. A bunch of private school league offensive linemen, while Rhictt, Booboo and Friend stupidly stand by and watch these studs like BRANDON GREENE leave the State. Hell, sign Shamire Devine and Jeremi Hall to at least keep them away from TECH, you dummies! Richt and Booboo have literally created the right side of Tech’s offensive line for them! The same way they created the left side of Bama’s line with James Carpenter and Chance Warmack. The same way they’re empowering Florida’s offensive line with Max Garcia, Joshua Outlaw and now this kid, Octaviouss Jackson. While all this is going on, these idiots are signing Zack Dabeell, Greg Pyke, and Alden Bynum. Did Richt not watch film of his loss to South Carolina last year. Creekside’s Rokevious Watkins pushed y’all ALL OVER SANFORD DAMN STADIUM. Something’s wrong with Richt. Nothing registers with the guy. He and Booboo, like two moths to a flame, keep doing the same thing, over and over again. Why are those two still at UGA? What a joke of a coaching staff.

Tampa… I wasnt saying any would de-commit, but It wouldnt surprise me either. Let’s be honest. Like most elite programs, UF has several high quality prospects waiting if one should de-commit. An overall lack of talent will never be the problem at UF. The wrong talent … maybe. As in spread RB’s, QB’s and o-linemen. Not saying that is still the case as I dont have a working knowledge of the current gator depth chart. But I knew without hesitation you guys would struggle last year for that very reason. Took Saban a year to get his players in place. Actually, this year will be the first season the roster is filled with ONLY Saban’s recruits. Yes I called UF elite. In the same category with USC, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan and Alabama. Only thing that will hold the programs down is NCAA problems or stupid decisions, such as Rich Rod to Michigan. If Texas ever gets rid of Mack Brown… Watch out. UGA has all the makings to be in this club just not the hardware. They are one great HC from truly making the jump. IMO.

Propst is a really good coach, but he has ruffled more than ages feathers here in Moultrie. He has an ego bigger than the whole county. IF he ever starts losing these people here will run him out on a rail. As long as he is winning people turn a blind eye to what he is doing. I know the GHSA has been sniffing around. Coach please don’t shame our football team and our town. Win the correct way – STOP recruiting. Everybody knows what you are doing!
