Brendan Langley: South Carolina lands 4-star DB

Steve Spurrer has been on a hot streak in Georgia (AP)

Brendan Langley, who once upon a time had UGA and Alabama as his co-leaders, made a surprisingly commitment to South Carolina on Wednesday.

It was not only a surprise that Langley picked South Carolina, but also that his runner-up was Tennessee – not UGA or Alabama. UGA held out hopes of luring Langley because his good friend and Kell High School teammate, safety Quincy Mauger, recently committed to the Bulldogs.

The 6-foot-1, 187-pound cornerback announced his decision in a press release:

I’m very blessed to have this sort of problem on my hands. One of the best problems you could ever have as a teenager growing up. I know that I had help reaching this point and I would like to thank these people up front. These people being my family, who I truly love and are 100% to my decision, as well as my high school teammates and coaches at Kell. Special thanks to the Kell High School community who is always supportive of our program in supporting our fundraisers and attending our friday night games. And to Natarvis Chang, my head coach Derek Cook, Eric Burke, and Fabian Stone, who all mentored me throughout this process and kept me level headed. There’s no football like Kell Football.

The recruiting process has had its ups and downs. I’ve met many of college football’s finest players and coaches and I’d like to thank them all for showing they were interested throughout this whole ordeal. This was a very humbling experience. I wish all the programs that dealt with me, nothing but the best in the future.

After a lot of thought and prayer, I’m more than proud to accept a scholarship offer from the University of South Carolina. I’m doing this, I’m about to fulfill 80% of my dreams. NFL being the other 20%. The SEC is the best conference in college football. South Carolina is a beautiful state. The university is an SEC monster as well as a national contender and I can’t wait to help them reach another SEC title and even a national title. I can’t wait to play for a coach with such experience and control as coach Spurrier.

I am very excited to see what my future holds at South Carolina, however as of now all of my focus is on the 2012-13 Kell High School football season. I am ready to continue to make myself, as well as my teammates better and reach our goal to a state championship. Thanks again to everyone involved. Go gamecocks! And go Longhorns!

Steve Spurrier is having another banner year in Georgia: Seven of his 19 commitments are from the Peach State, with the 4-star Langley being the highest ranked.

Someone needs to re-teach Richt and his coaches how to recruit the state of Georgia.

UGA offered Quincy Mauger to get a “package deal” for Brendan and they … whiffed BAHAHAHAHAAAHAHA. Will they run off Quincy now???

Then the same GENUISES in Athens F-A-I-L to offer Robert Nkemdiche’s brother, even though they had 15 extra scholarships available. Dumb, dumb, and dumber. I mean, you can’t make this stuff up LOLOLOLOLOL

I really do thing all the issues Georgia had this summer has negatively impacted Richt and his coaching recruiting efforts this year…..noting what the kid said about Spurrier having CONTROL over his program. Sounds like he was scared off by what has happened recently in Athens.

…..and I would say all the coaches are having a banner year recruiting in Georgia….except Mark Richt and his coaches. All this going on when Georgia has so many schollys to offer….and a lot of needs for next year and the coming years.

He chose South Carolina over Alabama and even Georgia? Good luck to the kid, but I think he will be regretting that decision when Georgia beats them and Bama is playing for another national title.

My prediction this season: Alabama- 11-1 SEC Champs
Georgia- (2 or 3 losses, one of which is to Alabama in Atlanta)
South Carolina- 4 losses if Shaw stays healthy, 5 or possibly 6 if he gets hurt
Auburn- 6-6 (If they are lucky!)

After Dawg night….Georgia got the commitment of his teammate and just about every Dawg fan on here (probably you included) was on the AJC posting about hoe that would help Georgia get Langley and how much Georgia needed him. And I am clueless? Seriously….you are not concerned that so many of Georgia’s top recruits are leaving the state? Seriously?

Tampa, Langley has came out and said UGA already has to many kids committed at CB. Sounds like he does not like competition. He had a very bad camp at Bama and Bama let up on him and slowed down recruiting him. At Dawg night the coaches did not even approach him and talk to him.

……anyway Dawg fans……

Have fun trying to justify this recruit not going to Georgia….because he was a real need this year for the Dawgs….is very talented…..is a great kid…..and Georgia went out of their way to offer his teammate in an attempt to get him (well they at least got a special teams player out of it).

Good night.

My prediction – Bummer 2-3 losses and 3 losses for Game Crocks. Langley is very athletic but raw. Needs some one to teach him the proper techniques he has not been taught in high school.. Definitely a red shirt his 1st year. He never liked UGA – not a great surprise. Game Crocks have peeked and soon to decline. Spurrier has two more years so Langley will play one year for him and who knows after that?

The only point you posted that makes sense is the CBs that are already committed to Georgia….but the only one ranked anywhere need Langley is Wiggins….so I doubt he was afraid of competion at Georgia. Now…good night for sure.

UGA is not recruiting to the level they did 4 -5 years ago and that is what happens when you get a couple of down years. To get back to that level they need to win the SEC and their bowl game and make less headlines off the field. Game Crocks aren’t exactly tearing it up in their state either – Clemson is cleaning Spurrier’s clock. The “gnome” has missed out on another for Bummer but there is plenty left uncommitted. Signing day is the only thing that counts.

i’m a true dawg fan but here is about as rational of an argument as I can make… the kid chose south carolina. they have a history of putting db’s in the league. academics are pretty good. it’s not too far from home but it’s not home. he did not want to go to bama or georgia or tennessee, for whatever reason. he’ll play in the sec. so i don’t see the big deal here. good luck to brendan!!! i’m pretty sure most of these young men are a little whiny when the competition neutralizes your inflated talent and players realize work ethic, discipline, and mental toughness are your only tickets to playing time, even at camps. who cares? the molding process that produces an end result is all that matters.

“Bama Man uga is on a 2 game losing streak and we were the last east team to beat bama. lmao. DB U IS HERE!”

Hahaha, really? Our secondary is much better than yours. If you need proof, look at your game against Arkansas last season and then look at how we did against the same Hogs team. That game against us was fluke. Our guys thought they couldn’t lose and paid for it. UGA is in the same tier as your gamecocks… good, maybe top 10 but not elite. I see UGA as being a little better and the missed field goal is what cost them against Mich State, they outplayed the Spartans overall. They are a better team than you in my opinion because of their passing game and run defense. I don’t think Connor Shaw is a top-tier SEC quarterback… he’s not bad, but much more of a runner than a passer. Maybe he’ll prove me wrong though.

Does Florida have a decent quarterback this year? Nope, they have the same ones as last year minus the bust Brantley. No Demps or Rainey either. Their receivers still suck big time. Their offensive line has a lot of work to do. Tight ends and defense are solid, special teams is good, but their offense is terrible at this point. I don’t expect anything to change this season. Maybe 8-4 if they are lucky.

Help them to “another SEC title” and “another national title”…someone needs to tell him that both have never happened and never will. They are the losingest program in the SEC. Their overall record all time is below .500.

Delusional!
