Georgia QB will stay at Penn State

Penn State’s only football signee from the state of Georgia for 2012, QB Steven Bench, has bypassed on the NCAA transfer option and will stick with the Nittany Lions.

The freshman quarterback from Cairo High School revealed the news on his Facebook page on Wednesday:

I have decided to stay at Penn State. I promise this team is special and will SHOCK THE WORLD over the next 4 years. #WeAre #PennState

When asked for his reasons for being loyal to Penn State, Bench told the AJC in a text message, “Since I’m staying at Penn State, freshmen can’t talk to the media. Sorry.”

Bench was one of the last additions to Penn State’s 2012 class. He didn’t really draw serious interest from college scouts until after his senior season at Cairo. Bench initially pledged to Rice University and then flipped to Penn State a week before signing day after a late scholarship offer.

Bench’s transfer options were unknown.

Bench’s options: Rice, Georgia Southern, Valdosta State………translation = “I am staying at Penn State.”

Redd’s options: Southern Cal and many other major programs looking for an excellent RB……..translation……”I have a lot to think about and I am meeting with LaMe Kiffin today.”

What day is opening practice for college teams? I just wish we could fast forward so all the Penn State noise would just mostly go away. I just feel badly for the loyal fans of Penn State who had nothing to do with a REALLY SICK PERVERT being allowed on their campus…..and a stupid, old fart coach who allowed it.

Loyalty is a trait that should be admired, so good luck to Bench and his teammates that stay, However, beginning this year the recruiting is going to fall off the map for the next 4 years in my opinion.

I agree with Tampa Gator. I’m sorry for the fans, players and other innocent folks, but we’ve about beat this horse to death on the sports pages. Same goes for the Colorado shootings on the other pages. Both were caused by bat crazy perverts and whackos. Lock ‘em up for life or juice ‘em and let’s move on.

I think initially most of the kids will stand by their school, whatever their reasons, I understand…but when things settle down I believe many will sit down with their families and look at other alternatives…really a sad situation for all involved…

Johnathan Rose entered Auburn as a highly touted four-star cornerback prospect. ESPN Recruiting Nation ranked Rose as the nation’s No. 11 cornerback recruit among the 2011 class. His first year at Auburn didn’t go as planned after seeing limited playing time. Rose is now searching for a new school.

Rose was given his unconditional release from Auburn Wednesday according to Charles Goldberg of Al.com.

Potential destinations aren’t yet known, but Alabama, Florida State and Georgia were among his final choices. If Rose needs to be closer to home, he could also consider UAB. Georgia Tech and Georgia State could be legitimate options.

Trenton Brown (Albany, Ga./Georgia Military) is a massive human being at 6-8 and 350 pounds. He is also one of the nation’s top JUCO recruits.

Brown recently narrowed his list of schools.

The nations top Juco OL, Trent Brown, has Georgia #1, (Ole Miss) #2, and Florida #3. Visits Florida next

UGA appears to be in the lead by a wide margin

Loyalty can take one a long way in life.

On the Bama front, We inked another Jones boy!! Thanks Mr. & Mrs. Jones!!
Barrett is easily one of my top 5 favorite Players of the Saban era. Middle brother Harrison will be starting at h-back this year & now little brother Walker Jones, a MLB, signed with the tide this week.

Initial reaction from the team seems predictable – “we are under siege”. I like the fact that they are sticking together as a team. Nothing that the players or current coaching staff did caused the current situation and most will probably stay. It is a shame that the team has to suffer. My guess is that the upper classmen will stay and the only, if any, defections will come from the 1st and 2nd year guys. But I don’t expect much in terms of transferring (even with Kiffen sniffing around).

It will be interesting to see how any kids transfer out of PSU in the next year. The way the NCAA set the penalties they can play this year and transfer in February and not have to sit out a year. Some may transfer now but I would be surprised if there were not transfers before Summer 2013.

“Contrary to what the NCAA originally insinuated, Penn State players cannot transfer at any point in their career without penalty. They have until the start of 2013 season to transfer and play immediately. There is a key exception, however: If a player participates in Penn State practices or games during the 2012 season, he is not eligible to play at a new institution this season (they can still transfer mid-season, but won’t be eligible to play until the 2013 season).”

So why apparently is UGA not interesred (I mean SERIOUSLY INTERESRED) in Redd?? At the moment we got an undersized RB and a freshman RB on top of the depth chart. And we are in contention to win as big as USC! SO why no interest in a RB who is neither undersized or inexperienced? SOMEBODY PLEASE ANSWER ME (I’LL EVEN TAKE A BLOGGER’S REASONABLE RESPONSE TO THE QUESTION).

There was interest shown by Richt to several Penn State players but Redd only made a move toward California

unlike some of the other coaches who expressed interest in PSU players, Richt is not waiting in the parking lot at PSU hoping to spot a player to talk

He let them know UGA was interested. If there was any interest from any player, the player could let PSU know and then contact UGA.

Tiger Son,

First of all I was implying that Boo Malcome was the undersized scatback! Second of all I find it sort of hard to believe that USC is a lock for anything other than its conference title (unless Saban is coaching USC). And finally you have to admit playing against SEC schools will prepare Mr. Redd for the NFL a little better, don’t you think?

A lot of print and broadcast media types are predicting a LSU vs. USC BCS national championship. Also….the Pac 10 puts a lot of players into the NFL….and LaMe boy runs a pro style offense and has NFL experience. And he will be the starter the first day he sets foot on the USC campus. Plus…very little depth at RB at USC…..plenty at Georgia. Plus….I doubt the NE kid would head anywhere at this time other than a midwest team in the Big Ten or So Cal for a chance at a NC.

That is is biggest need for Georgia….this year….and next.

And I know CMR is probably not comfortable gambling on a northerner (from Connecticut mind you). But if you are deficient in an experienced RB, CMR probably needs to be going after Redd as hard as Lane Kiffin! As crazy as it sounds, I really don’t believe Kiffin is ever going to win any bigger than CMR. Heck Spurrier and Petrino are far better coaches than Kiffin and they haven’t won any bigger than CMR! Just a thought.

It seems that the Georgia players left on the roster have received and are receiving a loud and clear message and doing things the right way lately…..although….admittedly……kind of a late message. Florida has recruited well in the NE…under Meyer (Aaron Hernandez being the biggest name of past recruits from there). Florida has signed some LB out of the NE recently, but they have not panned out well….with one transferring back to the NE to Boston College. Just not fast enough to start. Florida does have one NE LB still on the roster and he is running 3rd string. He would start on a NE team….I believe. Muschamp and crew is actively recruiting a top WR from the NE….but most of those players go to Big East, ACC, or Big Ten teams….as we saw last year with the top WR recruit that committed to Maryland over Florida. I think a lot of the NE recruits question if they will become stars in the SEC….and choose to stay in the area where they feel more comfortable and play in a style they are more used to playing. But a few…..do come to the SEC and do well.

lex — not to play the race card, but is their anything wrong with “liking” a little mixture of your Football Team?
My admiration for the Jones Family has nothing to do with Race — my favorite Players of the Saban era are Julio Jones(black) then Javy Arenas(hispanic) then Barrett Jones(white).
UGA could certainly use a couple more David Pollacks on the Team, for ability, leadership…..

Kiffin is a much, much better coach than CMR. See 2009 for details. No way Richt copuld have gone 7-6 with that Tennessee squad. and Kiffin would not have ended up in Shreveport at the end of the season with UA’s squad. 45-19.

We don’t know who CMR has talked to (if any) because they are not allowed to play it out in the press (unlike Lame Kitten). If the UGA staff has gone over the two deep on Penn State roster, I’ll bet that they have talked about RBs as well as others.
Don’t we have a coach from the NE on staff? Isn’t the strength and conditioning coach from PSU? I suspect that the UGA coaching staff has the word out to guys like the big TE that we were #2 on last year. The key is that these guys have to want to leave PSU and go somewhere else and so far, that ain’t happening. But, like others have said, next year could be a different story.
