Robert Nkemdiche: Ole Miss gets visit from No. 1 prospect committed to Clemson (UPDATED)

After this picture tweeted out by Robert Nkemdiche's brother with both in Ole Miss football jerseys created excitement among Ole Miss fans, Robert addressed it on Twitter

Robert Nkemdiche, who is committed to Clemson, visited the Ole Miss campus with his parents on Sunday, according to multiple media reports.

What was the purpose of the trip? Nkemdiche declined interview requests to reporters at Ole Miss, but it was likely he was there to meet with his older brother, Denzel Nkemdiche, who plays in the defensive secondary at Ole Miss.

No big deal then, right? Just a family vacation to visit with family?

But then 247sports.com Keith Niebuhr tweeted something that caused a little panic among Clemson fans:

#Clemson 5-star commit Robert Nkemdiche has arrived at the #OleMiss football facility

Football facility?

Niebuhr also later tweeted that Nkemdiche met with the Ole Miss coaches.

Ole Miss coaches?

Ole Miss is considered to be the only serious threat in luring away Nkemdiche from Clemson. His parents – and the brothers – have previously expressed heavy interest in them playing together on the same college team. Ole Miss has also offered two of Nkemdiche’s best friends, DB David Kamara and DB Ryan Carter.

Nkemdiche has repeatedly said that he was going to visit Ole Miss to see his brother, and he will likely return this fall for a game.

Now what’s the good news for Clemson? Nkemdiche made an unofficial visit to Clemson on Friday. Kamara and RB Wayne Gallman (a legit 4-star RB) are already committed there, while another former Grayson teammate, QB Nick Schuessler, will join the team as a preferred walk-on (after being released from his football scholarship at Mississippi State).

Four of "The Grayson 5." L-R RB Wayne Gallman (No. 4), QB Nick Schuessler (No. 10), S Ryan Carter (No. 23) and DB David Kamara (Picture tweeted by Ryan Carter)

Ryan Carter also visited Clemson this weekend, but was not offered a scholarship. Carter told TigerNet’s David Hood that the Clemson coaches are still evaluating him and still interested.

Nkemdiche has expressed a wish — but NOT an ultimatum – to play with Carter at Clemson because they’re best friends. He recently told the New York Times, “Of course I would want to play with [Carter at Clemson]. But if it doesn’t work out, I’ll still go to Clemson.”

That’s a pretty strong endorsement from Nkemdiche about Clemson.

UPDATE: After this picture tweeted out by Robert Nkemdiche’s brother with both in Ole Miss football jerseys created a stir, Robert addressed it on Twitter by saying:

“I went to visit my bro so all those media trying make a big story about my visit please calm down”

What do we think? Because Robert is the nation’s No. 1 prospect, it’s news anytime he shows up on any college campus that is not Clemson, especially when he meets with coaches and takes pictures in opposing jerseys. With that said, there will be rumors and speculation until signing day, just like there is with any elite prospect. Get used to it, and expect it to continue until signing day. It is what it is. My take of it all? At this point, I would be shocked if Robert Nkemdiche did not sign with Clemson.

Great move by Robert. Clemson won’t be able to offer Ryan Carter a scholarship quick enough.

Heck, I admire the kid for trying to help his friends ……. .. and Ryan Carter’s film looked good to me (speed, speed, speed)

Ryan Carter looks more like a ball boy than a D1 safety. I’m sure Clemson is “still interested.” Way to dangle the carrot, Dabo. Just trying to hold on til signing day, huh?

I like how the writer has to clarify one of the Clemson commits as “legit,” all but acknowledging that the rest aren’t.

RN should be participating at these camps trying to improve his game. He seems to concerned with protecting his #1 ranking. Either way, I wish him the best of luck. Roll Tide!

One of my ex-girlfriends right in the middle of a “session” said “I guess this means that we’re just seeing each other now…right? ” I couldn’t help it and I busted out with my version of Meatloaf’s “Can I tell you in the morning?” She just got a glazed look in her eyes, so I finished. Took her home the next morning and didn’t see her again for about 6 months. We’re still friends though, lol…

OK Dabo… you’ve pulled one scholarship offer because the athlete took a visit to another school, and you said it was your policy to do so. Now that the #1 prospect in the country has pulled your chain until you offered four of his buddies, are you now gonna stick to your “policy” and withdraw your offer to Nkimdeche? Man up Dabo.

If that #1 status was in regards to the NFL draft… sure. Rest assure his rivals ranking will mean nothing in the eyes of NFL scouts. This young man needs to get his head screwed on right. Too concerned with which school will offer the best friends and family plan. These camps offer some of the best one on one training a player can get. As A PERSON SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW I would expect you to know better…as a GT fan I’m not surprised.

His brother is at the school and Dabo knows all about it…totally different situation Cocky Mike. Plus Nkemdiche told Dabo he would take an official visit to Ole Miss to see his brother play when he committed. This is not news and there is no hypocrisy from Dabo here. Some key pieces of info left out–did Nkemdiche actively court the Ole Miss coaching staff or was he hanging out with his brother and they came and talked to him?? That is what I am hearing…

Blackout…..he is getting all the PUB he needs and doesn’t need to risk his #1 so some of the offers for himself or his friends change. The College that gets the #1 gets a lot of PUB too. He isn’t worried about the camps compared to the risk.

Nothing between Georgia and Mississippi but a crap hole full of brainless zombies. Alabama is a disgrace to the south because of it’s people. I have a home in Georgia but am paid very well by the Alabama mini minds to coach their simpletons. All we know is football. Go Bear.

The answer to all the questions lies here… was this a unofficial or a official visit by R Nkemdiche?

MC did not mention this in the article, I would assume the type of visit to be the key factor in RN motives.

I think the kid just went to visit his brother. I don’t read anything into it, like NKE is going to switch. I would bet this kid just can’t wait to sign on the dotted line, so he can have some peace. I am sure that even he is getting tired of it. I think the average fan is anyway.

Dawg Gawn… Official only means the school is footing the bill. Those typically come after the season. This would be an unofficial visit with his parents. RN is likely Clemson bound.. just applying some leverage to get one more friend a scholly.

You no you only seen this kid play aginst high school kids that are average ball players when he get to the next level he got to compet with real men so it would be a big bust if they give up to scholarship for one player and he turns out to be average athlete I guess that’s a chance you take
