Georgia Tech 3 & UGA 2

Georgia Tech 3 and UGA with 2.

That was the number of commitments for each school, respectively, from their final summer football camps over the weekend.

Good weekend for the in-state schools (AJC)

Good weekend for the in-state schools (AJC)

But before we go there … did you see what Reuben Foster did to show his loyalty to Auburn – only one day after de-committing from Alabama? Click here.

First up, UGA. With all those Bulldogs fans heartbroken over Reuben Foster (ranked as the nation’s No. 1-ranked inside linebacker), UGA made up for it by picking up a commitment from the nation’s No. 3-ranked ILB. Go here. He’s from Indianapolis – UGA’s biggest name from Indy since … Lars Tate.

Kell High School has two DBs that UGA has targeted, and the Bulldogs landed one of them at “Dawg Night.” Actually, the kid committed to Mark Richt a week before, but kept it a secret until his mom could see Athens. Click here.

Meanwhile, Georgia Tech is putting the finishing touches on its 2013 recruiting class. The Yellow Jackets picked up three commitments  over the weekend for a total of 13, and expect to sign 14-15 in February (although the number could increase due to attrition).

The biggest name for Georgia Tech was QB out of New Jersey (click here)

Then there’s a WR who may be “another Julio Jones” (click here)

Georgia Tech also continued its pipeline to Hillgrove High School for a speedy DB (click here)

What a roller-coaster weekend for one of the Atlanta area’s top prospects. He had a rough start to the day after being rushed to the ER at Virginia Tech, but had a happy ending by committing to the Hokies. Click here and learn about a freakish medical condition.

CPJ just does not get it done in when it comes to recruiting. Period. End of story. It’s what most Tech fans admit to themselves – or at the very least fear is true – but won’t acknowledge publicly. The on-field mediocrity will continue until this fact changes.

RJC, most of CPJ’s first true recruiting class(2009) are ENTERING their Redshirt Junior seasons. Get back with us when you have a clue what you are talking about. The 2012 team has depth and talent accross the board that TECH fans have not seen in a long time. The D-Line is this TECH fans only concern.

Recruits are fine until toe meets leather. But then, the UGAHs know that well after having the 18th ‘top 10′ class in a row without a national championship or an SEC ring to show for it.
Let’s see who shows up in September and who’s in jail or suspended in Clark County.

Hey Froggy, all the Dawg fans are very glad CPJ is your coach. He’s doing a great job for us as your coach. No one is heartbroken over RF, he was caught with pot on his Bama visit and again at the Opening thus his sudden departure. The Barners have no problem keep their thugs around just look at Liner.

I like CPJ he seems to have a plan and Tech should be reaping the rewards of it shortly. He’s setting Tech up for longterm consistent success. It’s very apparent that he has no concerns about stars but rathers his and his staff own evaluations of players based on how he recruits.

Mark Richt owes Tech his job. 10 of 11 is one reason, and a big one, that all the other short comings of the Richt era are overlooked. He owns Tech. The win over the talent laden ACC champ team ( we’ve got bigger fish to fry) was the best, on your field no less, and Willie Martinez a lame duck no less. It’s obvious the talent gap is huge. Lord help you if we ever put coaching and that talent together at the same time. Johnson football has a flaw. It shows up against top ranked teams. I think the guy is a good coach, but his ego is standing in the way. He needs about 10 plays in a 4WR set with someone who can complete a pass…….and he needs a D. But, we’ve got our own problems in Athens…..But this year looks like 11 of 12 coming.

Hairy Dawg….if you are happy beating Ga Tech every year…then join the Kool Aid drinkers….you should be more concerned about not beating Boise State, SC and Mich State / and getting blown off the field by LSU in the second half; as I have said over the last (6) months, UGA has too many non-productive people on their staff: start w/ D VanHalenger: D of Player Welfare: more suspensions, transfers, kicked off Team, and arrests in UGA history (only 2years on the job since he failed as the S&C Coach); next on the docket Rodney Garner, the stay @ home, over eating RC….next the rest of the story!!

Congrats to both teams in picking up recruits they feel will help their respective programs. The schools are unique and require different skill sets relative to the offensive schemes the teams runs. While the defenses are similar, there is still different emphasis placed on positional preferences. So , you can bash UGA all you want for having Top 10 recruiting classes that don’t seem to pan out to the level we would like or you can bash GT for seemingly not being able to get over the hump in recruiting but at the end of the day, they doing the best they can with 17 & 18 year old kids that have yet to step on the field at the collegiate level. The respective homers on these blogs would do well to keep their comments focused on their own teams and if you don’t like the other just don’t say anything about them. Go Dawgs!!!!

So the implication from your headline is that Tech outperformed UGA on the recruiting trail this weekend. Good Lord how could you be so wrong? Your bias against anything UGA is so incredibly blatent it is not even the slightest bit funny. UGA’s top ten recruiting classes (pretty mucn on an annual basis) just can’t keep up with your beloved GT’s classes that rank in the mid-100’s, or worse, each year. Give me a break.

@King….understand that Nick did contact Reuben about an issue Foster had a the Nike camp in addition to his antics in general. He was told to cut the BS if he wanted to be considered a part of the Bama process otherwise GTFO. Thus his auburn handlers had to get the PC scheduled so quick in order to avoid Nick booting RF before auburn could get the flip setup. The flip was going to happen period and UGA wasn’t apart of RF’s options. The Bama staff all along even with Reuben’s commit weren’t sure the guy would qualify for college without taking the juco route. I am sure Reuben will have no problem grade wise at auburn high but you bet his ACT testing will be red flagged by the NCAA. Coach Richt and his folks know even more than the Bama folks about the grade situation for RF. There is bad blood between Bama and UGA coaching staffs but no way at the level of Bama vs auburn. They’ve been buying players from Georgia ever since the 81 and depend on Georgia for their base. Bama has always had good players from Georgia but not our base like auburn.

A Georgia fan referring to the Tech campus as “the getto” is amazingly hilarious. I guess the Georgia campus is “the hood”….then. Truth is….Georgia got a commit from a very good LB and a DB they hope will bring another DB of better skill sets (they can do that because of the total number of schollys they can offer due to massive attrition at Georgia). Georgia Tech got a QB that can effectively run its offense in the future…or learn another position, a WR with potential (and Tech has developed several of those lately), and a very fast DB…..and I am sure they all will be well coached in the Tech system in years to come. As one person posted on here, 5 stars do not win championships….they can help…..but coaching does. And based on moving players from point A in potenial to point B in skill….I would say Johnson has outcoached Richt in previous years. Georgia should dominate Tech in recruiting……period. Johnson does a great job with less at Tech…..less being athletic budget money for football, less aumni support (lets face it, most students do not go to Tech to watch football), lesser facilities, less types of degree opportunities to offer recruits. Johnson simply does not have the world to offer recruits….like Georgia….and still does well….and coaches up the recruits he gets very well. Will Tech consistently be as good as Georgia in football….of course not. But Georgia has not consistently done all that well with all they have to offer either. But Tech competes in the ACC…well. And the Johnson offense and coaching skills help them do that.

you make a valid point about Johnson. I have always said Johnson could win big at UGA. Afterall, Erk trained him :)

You put Johnson at UGA calling plays and running his stuff with the kind of athlete we can recruit and match that with Grantham’s defense, yes sir he could win big.

People argue with me about it but I believe it is true. Would take a couple of years to get the skill people and yes, some folks would leave.

You may not know this but if Erk had stayed at UGA and become head coach after Dooley, Johnson would have been the OC and most likely the next head coach after Erk.

After reading these posts I have to agree with one of the posters on here in saying that the people on here with the stupid, name calling posts are people that have never stepped foot in a classroom in either location. Both programs addressed needs they have. They had good weekends. More recruits do not commit on the spot we will see a few more commit in the next couple of weeks to both programs.
The juvenile posts never ceases to amaze me. Some of you really need to get out more and appreciate life and enjoy what your Creator has given you. Just saying!

I think people are over selling Paul Johnson as some great coach. Paul Johnson could never win at UGA, Paul johnson can barely win in the ACC against lesser talented team. Also Bobby Ross and George O’leary both won at TECH and they both had good sucess against UGA. George O’leary recruited great talent to Georgai Tech. O’leary may have been Tech most productive coach. Paul Johson is very stubborn and that will be his down fall. Yes, UGA and Tech do not recruit the same players on offense. but defense TECH should be going head to head with UGA for the same defensive players. CMR has proven that he is a much better coach than paul Johnson because after tech won Paul First year. Tech fans thougt that they were about to start a winning streak, and CMR quickly shut that down.

Winning percentages at Tech:

None of the three had much success at all against UGA. No GT coach since Dodd has had any success against UGA.

Dawg fan you can ride Tech all you want to, but the real point is you may be the best team in the state, but thats it, never mention in the National Title chase, with all the high profile recruits and all the top 10 recruiting classes, at the end what do you have, nothing, its always next year, how may next years has it been, at least Tech isn’t fooling themselves. The best thing about it is how desperate UGA is to get the best recruit, not thinking about what kind of student the kid is, how may recruits are going to to be eligible to enroll next year, how many are going to be suppended, how many are going to jail before they play one game, answer me that! Yea, the Dawgs are the best in the state!

If you cant write a decent article and the only thing that draws people to the page is a bad headline then quit. I dont really care if GT beats UGA in something but trying to sell a story like that is garbage. The 2 UGA commits are better than all 3 GT commits put together. Learn how to actually write a decent story. And comparing a guy to Julio Jones is so dumb this early. Lets just see if the guy even plays as a freshmen first.
