UGA picks up 2 commitments at ‘Dawg Night’ (UPDATED)

New UGA DB commit Quincy Mauger with his mother

New UGA DB commit Quincy Mauger with his mother

Quincy Mauger surprised his mother by publicly committing to UGA before the start of Friday’s “Dawg Night” prospect camp.

Mauger secretly committed to UGA coach Mark Richt a week ago, picking the Bulldogs over Central Florida.

The 6-foot, 197-pound safety from Kell High School made it official with his commitment after driving early with his mother to Friday’s Dawg Night and meeting with school officials.

“Coach Richt was very happy,” Mauger told the AJC. “You know, I kind of made a pre-commitment a week ago. I just wanted to surprise my mom today. I had been doing my research. I told Coach Richt that I wanted to be a part of the Bulldogs family, and make it a big surprise for my mom. It worked out great.”

Later after the completion of Dawg Night, UGA picked up another commitment — Tim Kimbrough of Indianapolis.  He’s ranked as a 4-star and the nation’s No. 3 inside linebacker by 247sports.com. Kimbrough announced it in Twitter:

Committed to Georgia today. I’m a Dawg!!! #LetsGoooo

Back to Mauger (who is unranked by Rivals): He earned a football scholarship offer at last month’s Mark Richt Camp and may help UGA with his heralded teammate, Kell cornerback Brendan Langley. Langley, who is a top UGA recruiting priority, tweeted congratulations to Mauger on Friday.

“I’m definitely going to see if I can persuade Brendan to come our way and be the next Georgia commit,” Mauger said. “Whether or not he comes to Georgia, I wish the best for him. He needs to join the Dawg side.”

Mauger is projected to play free or strong safety at UGA.

“I love the coaching staff at Georgia,” Mauger said. “They are very well-connected with the kids. I got to sit down with an engineering professor, and we got to talking some about my decision and everything I needed to know when it comes to engineering. I’m going to major in engineering.

“I picked Georgia because it has everything I need to be successful with academics and on the football. It’s a great opportunity, and I took it”

Kimbrough probably saw the same thing everybody else did when Grantham took exception to Franklin calling out one of his players. When you have a good coach like Grantham that will have your back like that it sells itself. I would certainly play for Grantham in a second. Everybody also saw what Grantham’s defense did to LSU for at least half the game. Most realize the second half failure was because of lack of depth not Grantham doing a bad job as a coach.

The stars ratings are just guesses by “media experts”. Wait, is that an oxymoron?

I guess that I would rather trust the coaches whose jobs depend upon their evaluations than some anonymous blogger (even and especially the media) on the value of these kids.

Way to go CMR you beat our Central Florida for an in ranked player. That will make up for not getting the two top players in Georgia.

7576Dawg…..

Everyone saw LSU put over 40 points on the board (and could barley score against Bama)…..and USC, Boise, and Michigan State all racked up major points of Georgia…..by the way….the four top 25 teams Georgia played and lost to last year. Georiga’s defense has a lot to prove this year….and the have a bunch of holes and character questioin marks to fill and fix. Georgia deserves to be the favorite in the East….but they better step up their play a lot if they expect to win it against much improved Florida and Tennessee teams,,,,a good Vandy team….and a very good SC team. It will be a much tougher road for Georgia this year in the East.

Mauger: clean cut, happy faced, positive talk in the right manner, looks to have a desire to present himself in a positive image and be a student athlete that all UGA students and alums can be proud of in the coming years.

Kimbrough: may be to early to say this is a done deal, alot of powerful programs and head coaches still after this kid. Welcome and please stay away from any players on the UGA team that have dreadlocks, long hair or smokes dope. Do not borrow anyones car and do not allow the thugs in your car. A cab cost 5.00 anywhere in or around campus. Goog luck and you could be starting for UGA in 2013. Great! Good to have these young men! Where are the offensive linemen that posters with inside info have promised? Hard for me to understand why a OL talent wouldn’t want to come to a D-1 school in the SEC where he might see immediate playing time if he worked hard. Does anybody have a clue (please … no some stupid remarks) why our OL recruiting seems to be going so badly?

None of the moron’s claiming that UGAs recruiting has failed, has half a lick of sense. Their post are so stupid and immature that nobody can take them serious as a poster. They’re just like 1st graders taunting each other with childishness. Most of them are nerds whose own team, they don’t want to talk about. 1st graders, not adults…
