Tolando Cleveland, a speedy cornerback from Hillgrove High School, committed at Georgia Tech camp on Friday night.
The 6-foot, 180-pound Cleveland also had a football scholarship offer from Mississippi State, and was scheduled to go to Wake Forest later this weekend. Cleveland is commitment No. 11 for Georgia Tech’s 2013 recruiting class.
“Georgia Tech is a good place for Tolando,” Hillgrove coach David Ironside told the AJC. “I’m sure being close to home helped Georgia Tech, and having two Hillgrove players [QB Synjyn Days and LB Jabari Hunt-Days] already on the team there.”
Ironside said he was informed of the commitment by Georgia Tech assistant Brian Bohannon. “They’re really excited about Tolando. We felt like Georgia Tech would be a good fit all along. When Tolando went to camp on Friday, he felt the same way.”
How good of an athlete is Cleveland? We asked how he compared to Kenyan Drake, the AJC Super 11 selection who signed with Alabama last February.
“Kenyan is a little bigger, and probably a little better on offense,” Ironside said. “But with what Tolando does, he’s really, really good at – as a cover guy and tackling in the open field. He’s as good as we’ve ever had doing those things.”
