Brandon Kublanow: UGA OL commit from Walton High School

  • Prospect: Brandon Kublanow, offensive lineman, Walton High School, Class of 2013
  • Colleges: Committed to UGA (on May 23, 2012) over Vanderbilt, North Carolina and Clemson … Will play guard or center in college
  • Why UGA? “Georgia is the best fit for me. They have a great combination of academics and football. The program is headed in the right direction.”
    OL Brandon Kublanow (AJC)

    OL Brandon Kublanow (AJC)

  • Vitals: 6-foot-2, 290 pounds
  • Recruiting rankings: 4-star and ranked as nation’s No. 228 prospect by 247sports, 4-star and nation’s No. 9 offensive guard by Scout, 4-star and ranked as nation’s No. 2 center by Rivals, and 4-star and ranked as nation’s No. 24 offensive guard by ESPN.
  • Things to know: In the 2011 season, Kublanow helped Walton reach the Class AAAAA state championship game, where it lost to Grayson … Top blocker for Walton RB Tyren Jones, who was the leading rusher in the state’s largest classification
  • They said it: “Along with being big, strong and powerful, Brandon is just a ferocious football player – and I mean that in the best possible way said. He’s just fierce. He’s not trying to hurt anybody. He just plays incredibly hard, and he isn’t matched very often by his opponent. He’s a special player.” — Walton coach Rocky Hidalgo
  • Random: Nicknamed “The Finisher” for his punishing style of play … Unlike many high school offensive linemen, Kublanow often tries to block the second level (linebackers) and even go after the safeties. He was caught on film by Rivals making a “pancake block” and then slamming the defender’s helmet to turf to finish the block – which solidified his tough-guy reputation … Had a promising future in tennis before deciding to focus on football, and is considering trying out for school’s tennis team as a senior

Has AL started to suspend players after a failed drug test like UGA? Or do they just bury it like they always have?

It’s time for Will Friend to get more OL commits; needs to come away with at least 2-3 on Dawg Night….if not, send him back to UAB; after his weak recruiting performance from last year and losing Josh Outlaw, JP Vonashek and Max Garcia, he should be on a short leash….to be in this league…you’ve gotta recruit!!

Forget Keith Marshall, Ramsey, Gurley and the whole bunch, this kid is the gem of the UGA 2013 class, hell he is probably in the top 10 prospects in the state.
His film shows above average effort and good technique as far as hand placement and footwork. A perfect model for high school lineman. Only question I’d have about him is consistency, this is a highlight tape, I would need to have a few complete games to really know about him

Probably be a CENTER in 2 years. He seems to be Smart enough and about the right build.
If UNC didn’t have their issues I would have chosen the Tarheels IMO. A better School and College Town.
Good that he chose to stay in state for the Fans that think that is important.
What do the fans have to say about kids that stay in state to play college ball then go to the NFL and don’t continue to Live in Georgia? They don’t stay in state to SPEND all that NFL money in Georgia are they bad people too?

Well according to you and Tech followers your school has the best acedemics on the planet.Maybe if you had a football program on that was on par with your acedemics they could land players like this one. When kids sign with Georgia because they like the program you whine, when they sign for the academics you whine. In your eyes Georgia has a poor football program and poor academics.Guess they are doomed..

When kids sign with Georgia because they like the program you whine, when they sign for the academics you whine.

Well, for one, it is pretty hard to argue that the program is headed in the right direction when you look at the most recent years and the incredible discipline problems. Also, any kid that has ever said he committed to UGA because of academics is lying. I wish he would just be honest and say, im looking forward to drinking and smoking a lot and pulling as many fine ladies as possible.

The only reason I’ve gone to any GT site or article was to congragulate a Tech recruit. You on the other hand are just a miserable old coot who hates UGA because you can’t beat us on a football field. You’re nothing but a back-stabbing, cheapshot artist. Talk about Tech, or Atl.,or “man-love”, but leave UGA football to the Dawgs you troll…

L Column………… Chapel Hill is prettier than UGa for sure. If you have been to both you would know that. Athens having more bars than the legal drinking age people can support does not make for a Great College Town. You should really checkout the RDU area a litter more. Along with the great Colleges sandwiched in the area it is also a technology triangle. It provides so many more opportunities for internships for students and jobs after graduation.
