Derrick Henry: Alabama is new leader for ex-UGA RB recruit

Ex-UGA recruit Derrick Henry (247sports.com)

Ex-UGA recruit Derrick Henry (247sports.com)

After maintaining a relatively low profile since de-committing from UGA last month, 5-star RB Derrick Henry energized the Twitterverse on Monday by sending out the following tweet:

Alabama is my LEADER! #Tide

Glad I got that out of the way

Obviously, it was not encouraging news for UGA fans who are hoping that Henry might commit for a second time to the Bulldogs – like WR Tramel Terry did.

Some supporters are theorizing that UGA may be more attractive to Henry for immediate playing time now that Isaiah Crowell has been dismissed, and freshmen Keith Marshall and Todd Gurley are still unproven.

It still could happen, as Henry’s Twitter declaration was, by no means, a verbal commitment to Alabama. But it was strong words and interesting timing  by Henry, who had initially said he was going to focus on his high school team the rest of the summer when he de-committed from UGA.

What are your thoughts? What do you think of UGA’s chances with Henry?

Saban gets what he wants, period. All the whining and howling you pups do will not change this fact. Call him any names you like, he will continue to bum rush your state for top talent, live in your best houses, and bitch slap your coach at will. Get used to it little girls

Buyouts can be negotiated. Richt will not hold UGA to the numbers if 2012 goes badly. Money is not an issue either way. GM wants Richt to win big and prove to him he is his guy. I say the seat is hotter than 2011 because the expectations are much higher

It would seem to me you would be thankful that the schedule changed.

You now avoid UGA and South Carolina in 2012 unless you actually make it to SECCG this year.

Since Richt is 3-1 versus Bama, why would Richt be afraid to play Bama?

ANSWER He is not. Be thankful. It would have been the highest ranked team coming to T-Town this year if the SEC didn’t chnage the schedule

I went to UGA, why would Athens-Clarke county police conduct a Road Block on Campus. Would you think thats a job for Campus Police.

Your premise that UGA has had the most players arrested 5 years in a row is way off base. If you look up Fulmer Cup standings over the years, you will find that UGA won once, with a score of 21, as compared to the year Bama won with 28. Auburn set a record of 82 points, but Arkansas is challenging that with 68 as of May.

The lesson for the above poster and others, is not to believe everything you read on the AJC blogs, much less that put out by people known for being envious/jealous of UGA.

It is fair game for them I guess. It does cause you to ask questions though.

Why are the student athletes subject to drug testing that the general student population is not subject to?

If the late night stuff is such an issue, why doesn’t UGA build “Bulldog Lodge” for the football players with strict curfew year round?

@dawginlex and others who protect richt, mcquackity and uga football the past years

You people have done nothing to force McQuackity to feel pressure or care about you. It is people that step up and speak the cold hard truths about the climate and situations in Butts Mehre, UGA football and athletics as a whole regarding top three mens sports. This ship started sailing many years ago while you people had blind eyes at what was happening, now you want one leg on and one leg off the ship, you cannot have it both ways. At the end of 2013 Mark Richt must and has to be replaced, NO IF’S, AND’S OR BUT’S.

My 2012 contract statement to Mark Richt would have been as follows: While Mark Richt has been a dedicated Head Coach to the UGA football program, we have not reached the goals or objectives as a major college football team and any new contract will be discussed at the end of 2013 season. We at UGA demand excellance both ON THE FIELD AND OFF. The past several years we have taken large steps backwards in our football program and Mark Richt is on NOTICE.

Nothing more needed to be stated. Those of you who say it is about recruiting screw that, if the student athlete wants to be a Georiga Bulldog they should have faith that the UGA Pres., AD and BOD will hire a top football coach national if needed.

Recruit guys who have character, guys who want to play for Georgia, and let the chips fall where they may. You don’t always have to have the supposed #1 recruit at his position. Those rankings are bogus, anyway. How can you make such rankings when nobody plays the same competition?

And lastly, before you offer ANYONE a scholarship, if you’re too stupid to do some kind of formal background check, at LEAST see if the guy has a Twitter account. That’ll usually tell you all you need to know. See Crowell.

Bama in Atlanta

July 3rd, 2012
10:03 am

Actually, I thought he may go to Clemson or UT to get a better shot at playing time as a frosh but we’ll see…..still a long way until Feb.

I haven’t seen films of him but from what you and others have said it sounds like he needs to change is running style if he intends to play RB in the big leagues. I’ve never really put a lot of stock in the star ratings but rather read the comments from knowledgeable recruiters & talent evaluators who do this for a living.

I’ll admit that Nick has his flaws (pushing the envelope on grey-shirting, over-signing, etc) but he’s good at recognizing talent, motivating and keeping players focused. This year will be interesting because for the first time our offense will be more experienced than our defense so should make for some interesting games….I just hope AJ continues to improve.

So what do you hear about Kamara (sp?)? Has he listed his favorite teams?

At least make sense when you post moron.

Anybody complaining about SEC schedules is an idiot. Y’all have heard, correct, that you don’t get to make your own SEC schedule? You do know, correct, that it’s on a rotation? Hey, do you know anything about golf? Sometimes you get the good draw, and sometimes you get the bad draw (early tee time on Thurs with rain, late tee time on Fri with rain, versus late tee time on Thurs with sunshine, early tee time on Fri with sunshine – stuff like that).
It all evens out in the end. Just think, Bama fans, for most of the period between 1993 and 2007, every EAST team was GLAD to see Bama on their schedule. See, it all evens out in the end.

Thats a good idea. The Road block was on East Campus Road. East Campus Road is a small side street that runs directly in front the housing for the Football Players. That a very nice area of the Campus and a good place for a lodge. Maybe they will happen when we get a school president that cares a little about sports and not just locking up Football Players.

If UGA goes 8-4, CMR is Gone. At 9-3 with this schedule, he is on the hot-seat. If Coach Richt can’t get it done, then we need someone who can, it’s that simple. This year is his “TIP YEAR”, he wins and gets a grip on the arrest THIS YEAR, or he’s gone, gone, gone. I’m not saying he has to win the NC or win the SEC-CG, but I think he needs to make it there again and he needs to be competitive for 4 quarters. Losing another bowl game may be enough to convince McGarity to make changes at the top too. I love CMR, but HIS PLAYERS keep throwing him under the bus. He must win and win big this year or I’m afraid someone else will have to lead us to bigger and better things at the UGA…
