Derrick Henry: Alabama is new leader for ex-UGA RB recruit

Ex-UGA recruit Derrick Henry (247sports.com)

Ex-UGA recruit Derrick Henry (247sports.com)

After maintaining a relatively low profile since de-committing from UGA last month, 5-star RB Derrick Henry energized the Twitterverse on Monday by sending out the following tweet:

Alabama is my LEADER! #Tide

Glad I got that out of the way

Obviously, it was not encouraging news for UGA fans who are hoping that Henry might commit for a second time to the Bulldogs – like WR Tramel Terry did.

Some supporters are theorizing that UGA may be more attractive to Henry for immediate playing time now that Isaiah Crowell has been dismissed, and freshmen Keith Marshall and Todd Gurley are still unproven.

It still could happen, as Henry’s Twitter declaration was, by no means, a verbal commitment to Alabama. But it was strong words and interesting timing  by Henry, who had initially said he was going to focus on his high school team the rest of the summer when he de-committed from UGA.

What are your thoughts? What do you think of UGA’s chances with Henry?

Just confirmation of what the entire universe already knew. Even the UGA “insiders” that have predicted Reuben Foster to flip every weekend for the past 2 months knew this…

Love to have him..but, I’m tired of these players who think they’re bigger than the team. Can’t wait to see Marshall and Gurley take care of business this fall. Go Dawgs.

We want Derrick Henry if he wants to

#1) Be a Dawg

#2) Play the position that best suits the TEAM…whether it is RB, TB, TE, OLB, PK, whatever. He has struggled as a RB in 2A Florida high school football against good competition so far. He demolishes average to poor competition. He has the size but he must get faster in his first 3 steps to compete for any team in the SEC or they will grab him before he gets to the line of scrimmage.

Good Luck Wherever You Play!

I’m a Georgia fan to the core. I think UGA’s marijuana policy is stupid. I think the UGA police have an ax the grind with the football team. Maybe Sabin pays them a bounty for every player they arrest. I don’t really know. But I do know it has got to be killing recruiting. While other schools seem to protect their players, UGA bends over backwards to expose them. Another season without top players in crucial games. Another 5 star recruit on the scrap heap. I would like to see Mark Richt become a full time missionary and the Dawgs sign a full time coach. I don’t feel like we really have someone that understands how to handle the details. UGA is a sleeping giant. There is no excuse to not compete for national championships. If you don’t play for a national title once every ten years, please step aside because the right coach could easily do it in Athens. End of story.

Georgia fans, with the complicity of the media, are making the same mistake with Henry that they made with Crowell. The point was also made on radio. Alabama is filled with talent, but Saban never wants a kid more than the kid wants Alabama. Mark Richt and the fans have got to adopt this attitude. No one player makes a team or is the reason for their winning a National Title.

Recruit the best players with character that you can and make it known from the day you start recruiting them that being at Georgia should be seen as an honor for them.

Also, an interesting fact about the 2010 class of 5-star running backs; of the 11 top backs only 2 are with their original team. CHARACTER HAS TO COUNT FOR SOMETHING.

You watch…..Henry will never play RB at Bama. Maybe LB or TE….or DE. Not RB. You watch….not matter what Saban says to him. This guy runs straight up and gets away with it in HS….but will get knocked down easily by fast SEC players because of it. Too tall and straight up. Saban will sign him as a RB promise…..let him eat his way up to 265 -275 and then move him to LB or DE or TE.

DH knows he’s stirring up excitement or disappointment with every word or tweet. Of course, when you have the hordes hanging onto every word, it feeds young egos. If he doesn’t come back and honor his original commitment to the Dawgs, I’ll personally wish him well and look forward to seeing him go against the stonewall D that’s becoming (finally) a staple again in Athens. We only want those who want to be DGDs.

Like everybody did not know this a month ago? He didnt just de-commit to look at other schools. He dumped UGA because he already had a new school. its like you break up with your girlfriend and tell her you just need a break and re-evaluate things and then you are seen out with a new girl the same night. OneA girl you just happened to meet a week before you broke up with your longtime gf. The one you was “supposedly” committed to. This is not news. He is going to bama unless his conscience gets to him for not beign true to his word and committment. News would be “Henry sticks wth UGA committment” or “UGA STILL #1″. UGA was #2 6 weeks ago. At least….

Everybody loves a winner. Can’t blame Henry for being no different. Bama Football is a downhill frieght train, with no slowing down in sight. I wish him the best. UGA will land another scatback type RB or 2, that cant break tackles at the line of scrimmage.

Hey! listen up people. Mark Richt is not a bad coach; he cannot control what these guys do when they are not on the field. These guys are young adults and should be held responsible for the dumb stuff they do no matter how good they are. The coach did right by kicking Crowell off the team because this offense is his third strike. Coach Richt shows that he bends the rules for no one.

@UGA FANS

Denial is healthy.

UGA football program from top to bottom sucks. The Athletic Department from top to bottom sucks. The Athletic Board of Directors from top to bottom sucks. The Board of Regents for the univ of GA sucks. The Alumni that cares about UGA and its IMAGE AND NATIONAL RESPECT has sucks for many years now. THE ONLY WAY TO CORRECT IS CHANGE FROM TOP TO BOTTOM.

Richt’s players have no fear of his “discipline.” He had no choice other than kicking IC off of the team. Other coaches in the SEC are feared by their players, making them think BEFORE they act like fools. Richt’s players want to act like wanna- be gangstas much like Miami in the 80’s. Only problem is that Miami won 3 NC’s during that time, UGA can barely win their own division via cupcake schedules.

So are you saying that the school systems in Georgia are to blame for Tech’s inability to land top prospects? Then who’s at fault when a kid who qualifies chooses Georgia or Vandy over Tech? Oh I know, its the academics that scare the kids away.Right? Maybe I dont understand because I’m not as smart as you but what excuse is Georgia making? I only see you making excuses for Tech?
