Davin Bellamy: UGA among the finalists for Chamblee DE

UGA is a finalist for one of the state’s top college prospects at defensive end.

Davin Bellamy, a 6-foot-5, 230-pounder from Chamblee High School, has set his announcement date for Aug. 1. He has three finalists:

“Florida State is the leader, Vanderbilt is right behind them and UGA is my third team,” Bellamy told the AJC on Monday night. “It kind of tough to pick between Florida State and Vanderbilt [as my leader]. I’m going to visit all three schools again before I pick and see where I’m at.”

Bellamy was blown away by a recent visit to FSU. “I like everything about it. It’s the scheme, how early I can play, and the area it’s in.”

Bellamy also noticed the ladies. “I mean, down there in Florida, it’s kind of a vacation town. Who wouldn’t want to live down there? When I visited the campus, it was filled with beautiful women, with some of the girls we don’t see up here in Atlanta. I was like ‘wow.”

What’s the attraction to Vanderbilt? “They recruited me the hardest  before my recruiting really picked up. I developed a good relationship with the coaches, including [James Franklin]. They’ve been treating me like a big-time prospect before I was one.”

Bellamy is one of the state’s most-heavily recruited players with 31 offers. His first offer was from Georgia Tech, and Bellamy nearly committed. Meanwhile, UGA was the first school to scout Bellamy in person last season. They didn’t offer early because he was told he was “too weak” – which ironically Bellamy credits as a positive, motivating him to dedicate himself to football.

Bellamy spent a lot of time with UGA defensive coordinator Todd Grantham on a recent visit.

“It’s Georgia,” Bellamy exclaimed. “I wouldn’t mind staying close to home, and play in the state.”

“The only thing that hurts Georgia is that they weren’t recruiting me this hard all the way. If they had been recruiting me since Day One like they are now, I think Georgia would be the No. 1 school instead of Florida State.”

Why did Bellamy pick Aug. 1 as his special day? “I talked it over with my coach and my mother. That’s before we start practicing in pads. I wanted to have a little security going into the season in case I get hurt, so I’m going to go ahead and pick a team.”

What extra coach does UGA have that does not allow us to get a S.T.’s coach? If others have a S.T.’s coach what position was left open. I know that a college can only have so many coaches. What coach does UGA need to let go to get a great S.T.’s coach? Please don’t say Richt or Bobo. That’s too easy for the haters. I pose this as a serious question.

I would hope that his HS Coach would tell him that the Recruiting process is a two-way Street.

Maybe if he had focused more on FB and been STRONGER, then UGA would have Recruited him “harder earlier in the process”.

While he was wasting time playing B-ball and B-S-ing around, he should have been ithe weight room getting ready for that SEC-level FB scholly.

His HS coach or parent should have told him what Garner had to tell him, and should have told him probably a full 12 months to 18 months earlier and then UGA would have “shown him the LOVE”.

Even at this point point the RECRUIT still doesn’t realize that his poor WORK ETHIC is the reason that UGA didn’t recruit him harder earlier in the process.

I have seen cases like this where guys like this don’t understand WHY they aren’t getting more PT and end up blaming the coaches, being a cancer on a FB program or transferring or a combination of all three.

I hope he has success wherever he goes, but him putting UGA at #3 based on his own poor work ethic is laughable, maybe he should have shown the GAME OF FB “MORE LOVE” rather than demanding that UGA “show him love” and recruit him to play in the SEC when he wasn’t physically as advanced as other Recruits.

GT & CPJ recruited him first and was thrown aside when the “real FB Programs” decided to recruit him, yet VANDY is still in the mix; I guess that shows how poor of a Recruiter that CPJ really is.

Maybe it’s just me, but I would be surprised if Michigan is even within striking distance by the middle of the 3rd quarter. I just don’t see this being much of a game. Then again, I have not been following MI.

Bama is taking this game serious I am sure of that. Michigan has a lot of unknowns. You never know what Robinson is going to do at QB. What about Mizzou and UGA that is going to be an interesting game as well. Isn’t that the SEC opener for Mizzou?

DIT

2:11 pm

Yea, the Mizzou will be interesting. Now here is a clear cut case of if a team is motivated or not. Saban has that is spades over Richt. I wish Richt would take some lessons from Saban on that. However, I believe our defense will or should I say should wear them down. I’d be surprised if there are many points scored by either team. That is the Mizzou SEC opener which makes me nervous about that game.

I’m not sure about Michigan, DIT. I know they are supposed to be on the upswing after the Rodriguez years, but I don’t see them hanging with a team like Bama quite yet. Georgia will beat Missouri with its defensive front, but there’s a lot to worry about with that game, no doubt.

The Bear

June 26th, 2012
2:25 pm

As an SEC fan I want UGA to beat Mizzou. DIT you make a good point that Mizzou is going to be fired up wanting to make an impression but on the flip side UGA needs to flip that script and make an impression as well. UGA is going to be tested because this is a road game. Bama is playing on a some what neutral field, but will travel very well I am sure. The Dogs need to gear up and hit the road in force.

DIT

June 26th, 2012

I just hope this team does not put too much preasure on themselves because they are hearing all the talk about them not being able to beat a top 20 team. That weighs on a team. Games they should win, they might try to do too much and choke. Murray, whom I use to be a huge supporter of, needs to improve the most out of every position on that team. If he does not improve the team will go down with his mistakes.
Let’s hope he really matures this fall. The Mizzou & SC games will let us know if he has. Come to think of it, I’m more concerned about Murray than our O-Line. He’s a good kid and would like to see him get the monkey off his back.

Mizzou has never seen a front 7 with the size and speed that Georgia is going to give them. I also think we will be able to score at will. Now, if we can’t get pressure on their QB which i don’t see happening this could be a shoot out.

I could not agree with you more Bear!
I think Bama is back in the NC game this year. Just a gut! Too much talent and better coach. They will beat LSU in B.R. which will be another awesome game. My team, UGA, is just not at that level as those two teams. Then again, I know of another 118 teams that are in the same category.
If we have the half time lead at Mizzou I will feel good about it. By that time the game is settled in and hopefully the crowd won’t be as “in it” as the beginning of the game. I hear that Columbia MO is a great place to watch a game, great atmospher. Not as large as other SEC stadiums, but great game time atmosphere.
Heck Bear, I’m just ready to get the season going!

Bear,
I think the SEC will be Awesome again this year. I think Bama & LSU are the class of the Conference right now. That being said, I think by the end of the year, UGAs OL will have matured and like it or not, UGA will be right there with BAMA & LSU and S.C. right behind. Sorry Arkansas, that’s the price for hiring that pond-scum Petrino.(POS!) BAMA, LSU, better than UGA now, but UGA should improve as the offensive line grows-up. It will be a fun year in the SEC. If Lattimore comes back strong,S.C. will have a great year too, but like last year, it won’t be quite good enough. If Latty’s knee isn’t 100% for the entire year, then their schedule will doom them. UGA needs to beat them this year so we don’t have to hear the same whining and crying we heard this last year. All they had to do was beat Auburn, lol…

DIT

I see the defense being the key difference in both Bama’s and UGA’s games being discussed. If Murray runs that quick 5 minute, West Coast offense against them, Mizzou will be worn down in the 2nd half. Rumor has it, Bobo has been working on that kind of offense. I’ll believe when I see it, though it does make sense to get the ball out of Murray’s hand quicker and limit mistakes.

Guys, I know we like to poke fun at the gators, but they are the sleeper in the east this year. There is a ton of talent and despite what people think CWM will have that team ready. They will win 10 games this year. their defense will be right there with they Bama’s, LSU’s, SC’s & UGA’s.

I never said they would lose 4 games, only that if they did, Richt would be on the HOT seat!!
I think they lose 2 games in the reg season & the SEC CG.

As for Bama-Michigan…… If you look at their last games respectively :
Bama demolished LSU(who btw, had one of the greatest reg seasons in college football history),
Michigan got LOTS of help beating an avg VT squad in the Sugar Bowl.
The white boy CAUGHT that ball at the end of the game which would have given VT the win!! It was a catch!!
Denard Robinson will be a problem but their Team overall isn’t overly impressive!!

Ga will lose 1 of the 2 Columbia trips & they will lose 1 of the following, UT, AUB, FLA or GT.
Ga will lose to Bama in the SEC CG & Ga will beat TX in the Cotton Bowl!!
Bank It.

Got to love this High School Coach’s comments. i bet all his players are the bestest RocEt Sy-n-tist in the school.

GT head football coach Paul Johnson has company in the coaching ranks when it comes to his recruiting philosophy. Johnson has made waves over the years in the way he won’t allow recruits to visit other schools after they have committed to him.

Fans and media have been split, the critics saying it denies teenage recruits the opportunity to fully explore their options and in some ways hurts GT recruiting. Johnson’s supporters like that it forces recruits to stand firm with their commitment.

Turns out that Clemson’s Dabo Swinney is utilizing the same philosophy. For the second time in this recruiting season Swinney has dumped a recruit who verbally committed to the Tigers then took a visit elsewhere.

Swinney canned Florida linebacker Isaac McDonald in early June after the Champagnat Catholic (Hialeah, FL) player attended Alabama and Mississippi camps.

Apparently Champagnat Catholic assistant Jon Drummond wasn’t too impressed with Swinney’s recruiting philosophy based on what Drummond said in his Twitter posts.

“Clemson gon tell me I shouldn’t have taken a player in visits…man they crazy as hell. A verbal commitment dnt mean u own a kid.”

And this… “They cut from the list and consideration….and coach D slams the phone setup like we owe him. S***t they can have that attitude n shove it”

And this… “Clemson with that BS, but I bet they let committed players on their campus all day any day….smh keeping it moving”

@bham dawg to be honest the defense yes lost 3 NFL DB’s but Bama substitutes during the game so much that they have experienced players on the defensive side of the ball, but yes you are correct it will take a couple of games to get their starters feet under them. The “D” line is very solid. That is why the offense is going to have to control the clock and do a little grinding coming out of the chute.
