Georgia State’s 1st commit for 2013 … changes his mind

The Florida quarterback who became Georgia State’s first commitment for 2013 … changed his mind two days later.

On Saturday, DJ Juste of Port St. Lucie, Fla., pledged to Georgia State.  On Monday, he called Georgia State coach Bill Curry. At that point, Juste wasn’t calling to de-commit but to let Georgia State he would be visiting other schools.

“I slept on it for two days and it hit me that I committed … I felt like I rushed it a little bit,” Juste told the AJC on Monday night. “I told Coach Bill Curry that I was still going to visit other schools and he got kind of upset. I mean, you could hear it in his voice.”

A couple of hours later, Juste said he contacted Georgia State assistant Anthony Midget and officially de-committed. “Coach [Midget] was understanding. He said it was hard to get mad because it’s a big decision because it will affect the next 4-5 years of my life. He said they still want me.”

What’s next for the QB? The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder wants to wait until after his senior season and take official visits before deciding. He also has offers from Georgia Southern, Navy, Western Michigan, UMass and Florida Atlantic, among others.

“Georgia State is still very high on my list, and a lot of my friends are considering going there” Juste said. “I’ll just wait and take my visits and see if I feel the same way.”

The Panthers have had some tough luck in recruiting quarterbacks in recent months: Last February, longtime QB commit Trent Thompson of McEachern High School switched to Tennessee Tech just before signing day.

CHECK BACK ANY MINUTE FOR ANOTHER COMMIT …

It’s only a matter of time GSU catches on and becomes a powerhouse. If USF down here in Tampa can do it. I know GSU in the heart of the SEC Country can do it. Who wouldn’t want to spend 4 years in downtown Atlanta and not going to that other school… wink wink

If the kid were to pick NAVY, he get s a top notch education, a career if he chooses to stay beyond his initial obligation, and the pride of being part of a great military. Annapolis would treat him a lot better than Atlanta also. I kind of doubt he goes that route though.

Funny to hear about Bill Curry’s reaction. That guy has lived a charmed life and when things don’t go his way, he pouts. Vince Lombardi knew all about him. The guy loves attention and the spotlight.

@Red&Black: Navy will definitely open a world of opportunity for this young man if he chooses to go this route. Unfortunately for him the decision to “commit” to such a program requires a life altering decision that will effect his life in greater ways than football alone. Best of luck to this young man and thinking about your future beyond football is tough at this point in his life. You don’t want to play at Navy for 3 years and then leave the program (he would be required to pay back the money paid to him to attend the academy).

Annapolis DAWG,

It is a hard decision for sure and a big commitment. I had a chance if I had gone to a prep school for a year to get a few more math classes way back in 1968, but in those days, with the draft in hand, circumstances dictated a lot of things as well as having the money to go to another school on your own, which I didn’t have. Became a lifer in the Air Force so I guess it worked out OK for me.
The young man does have a big choice to make and I hope he has good advice from those he trust in making that decision.

Georgia State is expecting to take one QB this cycle. I still think DJ is the guy in this class and was actively recruiting for us this weekend.

Great sign to have him sign in Feb.

Where did you HEAR or READ Bill Curry’s reaction?
You are lying I guess. I am really not sure how YOU can question Bill Curry’s class or integrity.

It’s funny to see Tech fans make themselves better by comparing their recruiting success to a program that has played two seasons in its entire history.

Right gsu01. 100+ years of football history compared to 2. Makes us feel a lot better……smh. We aren’t worried about G-State. If you want to compare history look at this. Georgia State University was established in 1913 as the Georgia School of Technology’s “Evening School of Commerce.”

So yea little brother school talking about your sports programs makes us feel a lot better. Please.

GStateben……Hold on to that… You haven’t played a Sun Belt season yet. Bama was nice to give Bill Curry a Check. Right now you can’t compete with GaSouthern so just slow your roll. Hope you do well but let un not get high like the UGa football players just yet.

Georgia State ranked top for graduating African-Americans
By Laura Diamond
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Georgia State University was ranked No. 1 in the nation for awarding the most bachelor’s degrees to African-Americans, according to a report from Diverse: Issues in Higher Education.
Georgia State awarded 1,262 degrees to African-Americans this year, a one-year increase of 17 percent. That pushed the college past Florida A&M and North Carolina A&T State universities.
The college has also received national recognition for its success with Asian and Latino students. More than half of the school’s nearly 32,000 students are minority.

Right…………I like GaStates diversity. I hate the Drunk Fake Blonde White Girls College & Plantation of Georgia. I just stated the FACTS of what GaState brings to the table in recruiting…..a big city HBCU playing in the FBS. Those are FACTS. If you want a better chance of graduating with a college degree as a black person GaState is the best option.

Your basketball team?! Lol. We don’t know how Brian Gregory will do at Tech being as he just completed his first year on the flats. But I do know this, coaches don’t play bball. The players do. And if his first recruiting class (3 players in the ESPN top 150) is anything like they are hyped up to be then I think G State needs to either step up its recruiting or (more likely) just shut up all together comparing sports teams. We have more talented players in every sport. Period. Always have. Always will. We need to beat UGA in football. That is what I should be arguing. LOL. On to the UGA blog lol.

If the kid is still considering G.State, he might want to look at Lambuth too. Well, I guess he can’t since they don’t have a team anymore. Or maybe one of those other NAIA schools that beat up on State. Or how about that DII that beat the lowly Panthers. He should consider them too.
Ok, now I’m ready. Let me hear it State fans. Tell me I’m a hater or I’m just jealous. That seems to be your trend when someone makes fun of you. Course I never hear you explain what anyone would be jealous about.
