Solomon Poole: Georgia Tech lands one of nation’s top 15 prospects

Georgia Tech has landed one of the top point guards in the nation.

Solomon Poole of Jacksonville, Fla., committed to the Yellow Jackets over UCLA on Saturday. He is ranked as a 5-star recruit by Rivals, along with the nation’s No. 14 overall college basketball prospect for 2013.

“First of all, I picked Georgia Tech because I think ACC is the best conference for basketball,” Poole told the AJC. “Also, my brother [Stacey Poole] is there. The program has a tradition of point guards going into the league, guys like Stephon Marbury and Mark Price.

“[Coach Brian Gregory] was real with me. He only told me what I needed to hear. He didn’t give me a bunch of hype and tell me I was great just to get me to go to the program. I get along with all the coaches well there at Georgia Tech. And it’s a solid educational school, one of the best in the country.”

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound point guard also had scholarship offers from Louisville, Memphis, UCLA and UGA, among others.

“If I didn’t go to Georgia Tech, I definitely was going to UCLA,” Poole said.

Poole’s older brother, Stacey Poole, recently from transferred from Kentucky to Georgia Tech – which influenced the decision.

“Oh, that made a big impact on my decision,” Poole said. “Ever since we were young and played in the backyard, we wanted to play together in college and win a championship. My brother has been there for me since I came out of the womb. I think I owe him that [committing to Georgia Tech], so we could play together. He made me the player I am today.”

CHECK BACK ANY MINUTE FOR ANOTHER COMMIT …

Nice get, Tech. I wonder if these two kids are related to Stacey Poole that played at UF in the early 90’s? If I’m not mistaken, he was from Jax, too.

An excellent pick up for GT. They still have to get him to sign the LOI but at least they only have to wait until November 2012.

BigDWAG…..I hate to tell you, bubba, but even Mr Payne knew that there would be no Atlanta Olympics without Ga Tech. So what if he went to UGA or Harvard or anywhere else. Tech provided housing, practice facilities, the swimming venue, and countless other things that Mr Payne (MUCH SMARTER than you apparently) had sense enough to realize and utilize. And I don’t think I would brag too much about all the UGA alums in politics; the majority of them are at best scurrilous bums, and at worst crooks.

Another Travis Best? You mean the Travis Best that ranks in the top six in Tech history in points, assists, minutes, 3-point field goals made and steals, finishing as one of only three ACC players to score over 2,000 points and tally over 600 assists in a career. He also earned honorable mention All-American honors and played in the NBA 11 years? That Travis Best? Well that wouldn’t be a bad thing would it……………………………..idiot.

And, by the way, BigDWAG……how many buildings in this world were designed by UGA architects? For that matter, how many in Atlanta were designed by UGA architects? Does the name John Portman mean anything to you? Tech grads design things; UGA grads use them.

i jones…………Not what the MUTTS players smoke. TECH was a HUGE draw for the Olympics in Downtown Atlanta. If you don’t know that then you need to do some research.
Tech provided many areas to BUILD venues and already HAD many PRACTICE areas for Training. You are too DUMB to even respond to. You need to CHECK your FACTS.
