Solomon Poole: Georgia Tech lands one of nation’s top 15 prospects

Georgia Tech has landed one of the top point guards in the nation.

Solomon Poole of Jacksonville, Fla., committed to the Yellow Jackets over UCLA on Saturday. He is ranked as a 5-star recruit by Rivals, along with the nation’s No. 14 overall college basketball prospect for 2013.

“First of all, I picked Georgia Tech because I think ACC is the best conference for basketball,” Poole told the AJC. “Also, my brother [Stacey Poole] is there. The program has a tradition of point guards going into the league, guys like Stephon Marbury and Mark Price.

“[Coach Brian Gregory] was real with me. He only told me what I needed to hear. He didn’t give me a bunch of hype and tell me I was great just to get me to go to the program. I get along with all the coaches well there at Georgia Tech. And it’s a solid educational school, one of the best in the country.”

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound point guard also had scholarship offers from Louisville, Memphis, UCLA and UGA, among others.

“If I didn’t go to Georgia Tech, I definitely was going to UCLA,” Poole said.

Poole’s older brother, Stacey Poole, recently from transferred from Kentucky to Georgia Tech – which influenced the decision.

“Oh, that made a big impact on my decision,” Poole said. “Ever since we were young and played in the backyard, we wanted to play together in college and win a championship. My brother has been there for me since I came out of the womb. I think I owe him that [committing to Georgia Tech], so we could play together. He made me the player I am today.”

As a Michigan fan I must admit that GT is recruiting well and UGA is acting like they have lost the world for some reason. I thought when I moved into the SEC vs. ACC country that it was obvious that the ACC ruled in BBall and the SEC ruled in FBall……seems that the SEC folks are very jealous for some reason over Bball…….congrats to GT by the way on the awesome recruiting the last two years

I heard Ugag is paying better than when I there. Can I come back to Athens!

[...] Atlanta Journal-Constitution: In January, when Georgia Tech ended up as the landing place for former Kentucky player Stacey Poole, it was a nice get for the beleaguered Yellow Jackets, but not a game-changer. However, taking on Stacey has paid dividends in the form of a younger brother, Solomon Poole. Stacey’s little brother is a five-star point guard for the Class of 2013 and he is headed to join his older brother in Atlanta. Solomon admits that his brother’s presence was a major factor in his decision to attend Georgia Tech, and I doubt if Brian Gregory could be much happier with this turn of events. [...]

Good pickup but not really a surprise.

His brother Stacey ran out of Lexington because of the recruits being brought in that he didn’t want to compete against. Like Calipari says, not everyone can handle being at Kentucky.

It’s a shame because he could have stayed 4 years like Darius Miller and become a key player on another national title team instead of struggling to win 20 games at Tech and going to get a job.

His brother could have come to Lexington and continued the point guard parade to the NBA under Calipari

I don’t get it. If you want to be the best, you compete against the best.

Glad Mr. Poole decided to go to Ga. Tech I hope his decision was what Solomon wanted because I don’t think it was what Stacey wanted. It would have been nice if the boys could have decided for them selves instead of daddy doing what he wanted. Ga. Tech new coach may get tired of their dad telling him what to do like KY’s coach did.

Good luck to Stacey Poole down in ATL. yall get him and we get nothing. I call it a fair trade. Looks like his brother is pretty good but if he’s cut from the same cloth, he’ll be a cancer before it’s over. Keep plenty of towels ready around the court.

Congratulations to GA Tech and this young man. It looks like CBG is getting your program turned around after Coach Paul Blewitt left it struggling. Looks like I will have to resign myself to several more years of domination from you guys in Basketball. Best of luck next season in all sports and I hope we are both undefeated in November on the Gridiron. Go Dawgs and GATA!

I am so excited! Me, Rick James and Sasha are all going to ride to Bulldog’s in the Bentley. Of course, when I wear the Hamburglar costume, Rick likes me to say Gobble Gobble Gobble instead of Robble Robble Robble

When “Sasha” drives me around in the Bentley, I like to dress up in my Ronald MacDonald outfit and sit in the back seat. When we pull up beside someone at a light I roll down my window and ask, “Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon”?

A recurring theme for GT basketball. They get big time recruits but never do anything with them. Win basketball games or develop them. But congrats. Hopefully Mark Fox can start recruiting. If so, our basketball program should get better.

I guess cbg wants to only recruit ‘inner city’ kids. Someone needs to tell him they do play basketball at brookwood, marist, parkview, etc. Smh.

COmpete against the best? Sounds like a good reason to play in the ACC in 2013-14 against UNC, Duke, Syracuse, Pitt, NCSU, Maryland, FSU et al

GT Rick, I can assure you that I am not a racist, but I can also assure you that the person posting at 11:15 and 11:44 is a FAKE !!!! I don’t know what his little game is, but he has been reported several times to the AJC and they have banned him. And yet somehow he manages to get around their ban and continue to post things that, although sometimes innocuous, are generally racist, sexist, homophobic, and slanderous. I wish there were some way that you could discern the difference between him and me, but unfortunately there is not, and I suffer as a result. The guy is a totally worthless PIECE OF SH!T.

@ GT Rick, I would imagine that the racist accusation probably came from Tony Shumpert (I believe that is the correct blog name), because the imposter made some racist comments one night when Tony was posting. I read them later, but it was too late by then to explain to Tony that I was not the one who had made them. If the jerk has said things which offend you, then I apologize; but remember, they were not made by me. They offend me as much as they offend you. And it’s interesting tonight to see that he is trying not to appear racist; that’s a switch. I wonder what other pieces of garbage he will post tonight trying to fool you and others. Fortunately, I have several personal friends who post on here who can tell the real from the fake. Unfortunately, none of them seem to be online right now.

Congratulations to him on committing to a good school. Obviously his brother was a huge influence on his decision. With that said, I do think that UCLA would have prepared him better for the NBA.
