Robert Nkemdiche: Clemson lands nation’s No. 1 recruit … “It’s family man!”

Robert Nkemdiche, the nation’s No. 1 overall college football prospect, has committed to Clemson.

The 6-foot-5, 275-pound defensive end from Grayson High School made the unexpected announcement during a visit to Clemson on Thursday.

“It’s family man!” Nkemdiche said in a text message to the AJC, confirming his commitment to Clemson.

Robert Nkemdiche (No. 1 jersey) in Clemson gear with his Grayson teammates, sent out by Wayne Gallman on Twitter

There’s a lot of connections between Nkemdiche and Clemson that would make it feel like a football family: Two of his Grayson teammates, DB David Kamara (Nkemdiche’s best friend since middle school) and RB Wayne Gallman, have already committed to Clemson. There’s an extra level of trust with Clemson coach Dabo Swinney because he roomed together and played football at Alabama with Grayson coach Mickey Conn, who has helped Nkemdiche navigate through the recruiting process. Clemson is located only 100 miles away from Grayson High School, keeping Nkemdiche within close proximity to his support network.

It was an amazing turn of events for Clemson, which traditionally recruits well in the state of Georgia. Clemson failed to sign any Georgia prospects last February and now has  landed the nation’s No. 1 prospect from Georgia, along with two of his teammates.

Nkemdiche and Kamara went to Clemson on Wednesday for a three-day visit, and Kamara set things in motion by committing to the Tigers soon after arriving on campus. The next day, Nkemdiche followed with his pledge to the Tigers. The timing was surprising because Nkemdiche had been hinting that he would likely wait on making his college decision until after  his senior season — so he could take some official visits.

Clemson has been listed among Nkemdiche’s favorite schools, along with Alabama and Ole Miss. Robert, at one time or another, has also expressed heavy interest in UGA, LSU, Mississippi State and Florida, among others.

Is it true Richt had Robert Nkemdiche on his board as an Offensive Guard???

The floodgates are officially open. The top talent are leaving the state by the truckload. Also, in case you Dawgs forgot, Clemson is on your schedule for the next 2 years.

The fat lady hasn’t sung yet…I bet he ends up at Bama.

Geez…it seemed that UGA was in trouble with instate kids running for the borders but losing the #1 defensive recruit in the country to a horrid Clemson team has to signal it is time to hit the panic button.

Clemson really? That is the horrid school which is the butt of jokes across college football for the embarassment of giving up 70 in the Orange Bowl to a Big East team? ESPN loves it some…”WV just scored again”….

Just what is going on in Athens? Why did this kid not want to play for the “greatest DC in the history of football” in Athens? Can the AJC not do some journalism and find out why Geogia kids are fleeing from playing at UGA? Is Grantham that off putting?

RN is a scumbag for turning out his home state schoul, UGA really didn’t need him or Kamara anyway and have better people in position, the Dawgs will dominate all the compatatioin and will beat Clemson badly in both years we play the orange sissy’s!

Saban is responsible ordering his highschool coach to sway him away from UGA and send him out of state so he could have an easy path to the SECCG!

The muddy shoeless bammers will still be smacked down come decamber when thaey face the mighty UGA Bulldogs!

Saban can’t beat UGA and is 1-3 against the Dawgs. Bama will be placed back on probateon soon as we all know they just cheat and cheat and cheat.

This is a Georgia forum and a Georgia paper get your bummer butts back over in toothlessville and stick to your speak & spell websites.

Defensive scheme (4-3) is the ideal fit for him. Depth chart in his favor. But still a follower and not a leader. He’ll do fine at Clemson..but wont hear much about him due to lack of national coverage. He’s just bigger than most kids at the HS level, lets see what he does against some of big boys at the next level. He’ll grow, probably end up at DT. Which will be another position learning curve. Lawson, Foster, and Tunsil are the highest priorities right now!!

It’s funny to watch all you SEC homers getting butthurt over this.

Trivia question: Who are the best NFL DE’s, and what conferences did they play in?
Jason Pierre-Paul? USF/Big East
Jason Babin? Western Michigan/MAC
Julius Peppers? UNC/ACC
Jared Allen? Idaho State/Big Sky
Justin Tuck? Notre Dame
Mario Williams? NC State/ACC

Said it before and I’ll say it again, the kid will not end up at Clempson. This is the first of several schools he will commit to before signing day when he will switch again to whatever school is unfortunate enough to put up with his ego for the next 3 years. He loves the attention. He will milk it to the very end. Just watch.

Wow!!! Clemson? I’m shocked but I’m very happy for this kid! It seems that his parents trust him enough to let him make his own choice. The kid seems very happy and excited. However, given the fact that he’s the nations best, happy and excited are emotions that are only temporary. I wouldn’t be surprised if he changed his mind after his season. I bet he’s going to continue visiting other schools ASAP! Best of wishes to this kid!!! I’d rather go to Clemson and play 4yrs and compete for an ACC Title than win 4 SEC Titles, 4 NTL Titles and never touch the field. For example, I think Dequan Bolden is doing just fine.

Didn’t the alabama experts on here all say that he was a “silent committment” to the Tide?

Is it possible that bama fans have been spewing incorrect information all along? Do they really have 14 nat’l. titles? or, is it like 9, which the rest of the college landscape only recognize.

HAHA some of you guys are idiots. People saying he will disappear and never be heard of again when he goes to Clemson… you guys are stupid. If I do remember, in the last 7 years, Clemson have sent 3 great DE’s to the NFL. Gaines Adams, Da’Quan Bowers, Andre Brach. He’s in great hands at Clemson.

And to everyone complaining about his choice, it’s HIS choice. GET OVER IT!

2/1 odds that clemson is not the school that he signs with on NSD. and yes, i would say this about any school that he committed to this early.

if he was shown a good time up in clemson these last couple of days, he’s in for the time of his life in the fall.

“3 great DE’s to the NFL. Gaines Adams, Da’Quan Bowers, Andre Brach.”

Typical Clemson graduate. You misspelled ‘Branch.’ Did you graduate with honors? LOL

First of all, RIP Gaines Adams. Now, back to your comment. Bowers and BRANCH are FAR from great DEs. That’s a joke! Branch JUST got drafted & last time I checked, WVU hung 70 points on your D led by the ‘great’ Branch.

BTW, how many games will your ‘possession’ receiver miss this season? LOL!

My opinion: with friends going there had a big play in his decision!! UGA screwed up by not getting his brother last year and not offering his best friend this year; they had / have the scholarships to give!! Both Nkemdiche’s brother and D Kamara could have contributed on special teams and elsewhere in the future!! The staff @ UGA doesn’t seem to get it; we’ll see coming signing day; they missed out on too much last year; this year should be determining factor for CRG’s role as RC!!!

That was a nice post about your dad, kingdaddy.

We were poor when I was a youngun
I don’t remember ever going hungry
Daddy made sure we didn’t do without
I went to school with some of these fellas
They had money and I was jealous
I didn’t know then what I know now
Daddy’d say you can’t judge a book by looking at its cover
It’s what’s inside that really matters

Daddy never was the Cadillac kind
He said some things just glitter and shine
He taught us that love was the one thing money couldn’t buy
Daddy never was the Cadillac kind

I left home right out of high school
Got me a big car thought I was real cool
Cruisin’ around the old neighborhood
I’d see daddy after church on Sunday
I’d say you’ll have to go riding with me someday
He just said no, I never understood
He asked me how I bought it, I told him on credit
Daddy just smiled, I’ll never forget it

Daddy never was the Cadillac kind
He said some things just glitter and shine
He taught us that love was the one thing money couldn’t buy
Daddy never was the Cadillac kind

It took a while but now I’m grown
I’ve settled down with kids of my own
The more I give them
The more they want

Daddy left us last November
I don’t remember him ever looking better
All laid out in his Sunday best
I’m sure instead of all that attention
All he’d of wanted was a few words mentioned
A simple man simply laid to rest
As they drove him away in that big Cadillac
With a tear in my eye I had to laugh

‘Cause daddy never was the Cadillac kind
He said some things just glitter and shine
Well just this once, I hope daddy enjoyed the ride
‘Cause daddy never was the Cadillac kind
No my daddy never was the Cadillac kind

DIRTY RED DOG

Ease up on the kid some. UGA has had a high number of great recruits! However, we all would love to know what happens to them when they get there! (Marlon Brown, Branden Smith, Joe Cox, Caleb King, Demiko Goodwin, Logan Gray, Mike Jones, Kurt Lincoln and countless others) Oh umm… ARRESTED, SUSPENDED, TICKETED, PROBATION, BAR FIGHTING, WEEDHEADS, FLUNKED OUT and ARRESTED some more. Yeah Saban cheats but he doesn’t mess around and those kids know it. Remeber you lost Eric Berry too! Lol! Mark Richt has no control over his players and UGA won’t win the BIG GAMES AS USUAL!!! Better not sleep on MIZZU!!! UGA you must remeber that you are the Baylor’s, Clemson’s, Texas Tech’s, Michigan State’s of the SEC. Stanford, Oregon, Oklahoma State have all surpassed you. When is the last time you have won anything? LMAO!!!

Deanna, don’t hold your breath. He has two high school teammates going to Clemson and his high school coach was college roommates with Dabo Swinney. Clemson asst. coach Pearman coached his high school coach when he was playing for Bama. I’m not a CU fan…but all this bashing, CU last won a NC the year before or after UGA did. Both have a few flashes the past 30 years, Conf champ here and there since then and a few preseason hypes (UGA is prob at par with ND the the preseason hype dept). I’m not so sure, that CU and UGA are about the same level after everything thing is said and done and trophy cases are compared.
