Robert Nkemdiche: Clemson lands nation’s No. 1 recruit … “It’s family man!”

Robert Nkemdiche, the nation’s No. 1 overall college football prospect, has committed to Clemson.

The 6-foot-5, 275-pound defensive end from Grayson High School made the unexpected announcement during a visit to Clemson on Thursday.

“It’s family man!” Nkemdiche said in a text message to the AJC, confirming his commitment to Clemson.

Robert Nkemdiche (No. 1 jersey) in Clemson gear with his Grayson teammates, sent out by Wayne Gallman on Twitter

There’s a lot of connections between Nkemdiche and Clemson that would make it feel like a football family: Two of his Grayson teammates, DB David Kamara (Nkemdiche’s best friend since middle school) and RB Wayne Gallman, have already committed to Clemson. There’s an extra level of trust with Clemson coach Dabo Swinney because he roomed together and played football at Alabama with Grayson coach Mickey Conn, who has helped Nkemdiche navigate through the recruiting process. Clemson is located only 100 miles away from Grayson High School, keeping Nkemdiche within close proximity to his support network.

It was an amazing turn of events for Clemson, which traditionally recruits well in the state of Georgia. Clemson failed to sign any Georgia prospects last February and now has  landed the nation’s No. 1 prospect from Georgia, along with two of his teammates.

Nkemdiche and Kamara went to Clemson on Wednesday for a three-day visit, and Kamara set things in motion by committing to the Tigers soon after arriving on campus. The next day, Nkemdiche followed with his pledge to the Tigers. The timing was surprising because Nkemdiche had been hinting that he would likely wait on making his college decision until after  his senior season — so he could take some official visits.

Clemson has been listed among Nkemdiche’s favorite schools, along with Alabama and Ole Miss. Robert, at one time or another, has also expressed heavy interest in UGA, LSU, Mississippi State and Florida, among others.

CAnt blame him!

I guess he was more interested in a coach that takes football seriously, and does not take the team high diving during an important day of practice.Mark Rick=Soft, Swinney=name has win in it

Good luck Robert!

Man for Man and tooth for tooth, the clempson fanbase is the dumbest in all of College Athletics. The media in SC fawns over them & they think the rest of the world is supposed to blow kisses their way, as well.

Well, we got news for you…EVERY SEC team will file a motion to the 4 commissioners stating that Clemson has won the NC from 2013 – 2015. U happy now?

Clemson Orange how dare you bring up those moral victories Just because UGA brings up the 70 points WV score on Clemson but they forget about the 42 points LSU put on them in one-half (1/2). That is ok because they won the first half. Some one needs to remind them that a football game last 4 quarters.

Clemson has more conference championships than UGA. 4 more to be exact.

Clemson has won a National Championship since UGA.

Clemson Has a better coaching staff and is not in a downward spiral like UGA.

Clemson has the commitment of the #1 recruit in the nation and Georgia grown Robert Nkemdichie. UGA does not have him and will not.

UGA will lose to Clemson to start the 2013 & 2014 season because they come out for the season fat and lazy.

Thats a funny comparison considering those LSU teams were worlds apart. The team that UGA played lost one game all season and that was in the BCS championship game. The LSU team Tek lost to ended up in the Peach Bowl. Enough said…

Really good/entertaining post.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like your permission to use your Bama/Tuscaloser Walmart-Free white sheets day.

The reason you haven’t heard/seen climpson fans on here is they are nomads. Because of the uniform color they migrate between Climpson and Tennessee. That way they always have the color right !!!!!!

Climpson/Tennessee Agenda:

1) Wear orange jersey on Game Day

2) Wear orange jersey for Deer Hunting

3) Wear orange jersey for Community Service

He is going to the ACC. He will play, mostly, second-tier competition, not get injured, then go make his millions in the NFL. He is also going where he will be the “star” on defense. He would not shine so much at UGA, LSU or Bama because those around him would be as good as he is. He will also play as a freshman giving him the three-and-out option. Kid might be smarter than you are giving him credit for.

Look I am sitting here absolutely stunned watching this “orange thing” take the ‘Dawg Nation apart at the seams today. “Moral Victory’s” Was a death grip choke hold that caused me to spit coffee on the keyboard.

You clowns are TOAST!

Alabama has the best recruting package assembled in decades possibly ever and we are ramping up for the big run in 2014 for the playoff run.

Alabama thinks years ahead and UGA lives in its past as is evident by the comments presented here today.

I feel quite certain that Climpson would have GLADLY accepted the 1st half score vs WV. Tommy Bowden never had a score like that dumped on one of his teams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Call 911 but only after Adams, McGarity, Richt, BOD, Board of Regents, Gov have entered the building.

McGarity has been the final nail in the coffin, his 22 months of being AD, in way over his head, mishandled everything across his desk. UGA fans have to grow up and demand EXCELLANCE, LEADERSHIP, ACCOUNTABILITY

Clemson Orange, you’re binging a knife to a gunfight. Georgia on downward spiral, who was ranked higher and the end of the season last year. When was the last time Clemson finished in the top 10?
Uga has done it 6 time in last 11 years and finished in top 25 9 times Clemson 4..It had been 20 years since Clemson last won an acc title, one of the weakest conferences in the nation Your program hasn’t finished in the top ten since 1990, The 1991 acc champs lost to Georgia, a team that Clemson hasn’t beaten since 1990.That series record is 38-15-4. But congrats on getting RK .Last but not least since 1991 Georgia is 26-5 vs ACC.14-1 over the past 11 years.Try beating Tech and then talk.

How as a coach do you handle this ? Dabo probably knows he still has to go after a top DE because this kid can change 3 or 4 times. Its really better to go after 4 star (whatever that means) players as I believe they are more stable. You want the 5 stars but they are likely to do anything and who says they will end up being the college players they are projected to be.

@BRAINIAC AND OTHERS

UGA football and athletics has been in a free fall and 2012 / 2013 it will become a DEATH SPIRAL OUT OF CONTROL. Trying to defend the lack of Leadership and accountability has prolonged and increased the damaged being done. Never did I believe many UGA power players would be pushed out so far that this could happen. Adams, McGarity, BoD, Bof Regents, Head Coaches — you should all be very ashame of yourselfs. Time for everyone of you to go NOW.

New President of UGA: JEFF LEWIS former football player, competitot and very intelligent
New AD: Interim Vince Dooley while Jeff Lewis has time to search
New BOD: Clean house and start over
New Head Coaches: Jeff Lewis has my confidence — we need winners that are ACCOUNTABLE

He was left twisting in the wind. after he brought his Mom and Dad and several friends to see him sign his LOI At least Saban and the Ala coach are not banned from the High School Campus like Carver Hi banned little Jesus Richt- from their campus. If you need your BFFs to feel comfortable at college, the UA is not where you need to be. No package deals or a 2 for 1. Bama missed on Clowney and won a national championship, and will
win another one before SC or Clemson. Roll Tide, 22 SEC Titles……..

I get that he wants to be with his friends. But still Clemson? .I never thought UGA had a chance so Im glad it’s Clemson instead of Alabama..but CLEMSON? WHY?

I guess he just didnt want to play with the big boys in the SEC. If I wanted to play in the NFL, I would want to play the best in college, i.e. the SEC. The ACC is no beter than the 5th best conference and MWC is closing fast.

I guess he can be the big fish in a little pond against those ACC heavyweights like Maryland, VA, BC and the like. If he had gone to Bama, he would be playing in at least 6 top natl games a year. At Clemson, he get VA Tech, an ordinary FSU , and 10 teams named Joe. Unbelievable.

Wish him all the luck, however playing in the SEC would have given you more credentials then playing in the ACC. It’s called competition. Playing against the best, among the best, and showing that you are the best. You will be considered a second tier player because of the league you play in. You need to think about it.
