Florida 3-star is third OL to commit to Georgia Tech

Chris Griffin liked Wednesday’s visit to Georgia Tech so much that he committed on the spot.

The 3-star offensive tackle from Crawfordville, Fla., then got on the phone and canceled recruiting trips scheduled this weekend for Clemson and Vanderbilt.

The 6-foot-6, 265-pounder picked Georgia Tech over Clemson and South Florida among his 16 football scholarship offers.

“You know how you go somewhere and you know it’s just right? That’s how I felt about Georgia Tech,” Griffin told the AJC. “I knew it was the right place for me, so I went ahead and told them I was coming there.”

On Wednesday, Griffin spent around six hours touring the Georgia Tech campus for the first time with his mother, brother, grandfather and neice. Toward the end, he met with Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson and gave him the news.

“Coach Johnson was really excited, and he said that I made his day,” said Griffin, who has a 3.3 overall GPA and will likely study Mechanical or Civil Engineering.

Griffin is commitment No. 7 for Georgia Tech’s 2013 recruiting class – and the third at offensive line. The other two are the Tri-Cities High School tandem of Shamire DeVine and Jeremi Hall. Griffin said he is projected to play offensive tackle at Georgia Tech.

Woo! We’ve locked up the OL class for this year with some stud prospects! What’s special about this one is that his HS runs the flexbone so the learning curve should be a lot less.

Great to see GT get somebody that chose GT over Clemson rather than MTSU, Samford or Memphis.

Actually, he’s number 7 as Nigel Bowen has decided that he now isn’t sure if he wants to sign with GA Tech or Vandy, so he’s uncommitted, so you can take him off of GA Tech’s list.

Great!!! CPJ Staff will be served well by concentrating on Florida, Texas and Ohio a little more. They will be able to pull out 2-3 each year, coupled with what they get from Georgia (which they have to improve) Ala. and South Carolina and they will have competitive recruiting years. Then CPJ will have talent and he can outcoach most. But he HAS TO CLOSE THE TALENT GAP!

Welcome Chris. I am pleasanly suprised at the class we are putting together. I agree with above comments about concentrating on some selected states other than Georgia to get recruits. Let’s face it, the kids in Georgia are so inundated with the SEC hype that we have alot to overcome. Look at what Ross and O’Leary did. They pulled many quality players from Ohio, New York, Florida and Pennsylvania. Many of these kids are also better qualified academically. CPJ can coach, no question. He has to prove he can recruit with the big boys to have long term success. Looks like this year he is starting to prove he can do just that.

Go Jackets!

On film the young man looks like he has a good frame and good feet. At 265lbs he’s going to need time in the weight room and I can see him at 285-290 as a Fr RS. He will have less of a learning curve than some others and I feel he will be a good one at Tech. His offer list is more impressive than MC would lead you to believe, He has offers from South Carolina, Miss St, Vandy, Maryland and UCF along with Clemson and South FL. Nice addition to what is shaping up to be a very good class. Welcome aboard Chris! Go Jackets!

I wonder if these recruits will have access to the same steroids that the trade school’s most recent arestee had? That kid was so jacked up he took down two cops with a quickness. cpj taught him the chop blocks I wonder if he provided the drugs as well?

I read on another blog that this might be related to coach fish fry’s hate fueled comments about punching Georgia fans in the face. Even if he didn’t provide the drugs first hand he might still be libel. Hey at least y’all are able to get some commits despite the program spinning out of control so there is that.

@Really, Nice yarn there, no facts, all innuendo………….nicely done……troll hard, Oh and BTW what the hell does your B.S. have to do with recruiting since the player you’re talking about was a walk on? Also, you might what to learn the difference between libel and liable ;-) they certainly don’t have the same meaning.

The buzz is that he was in Athens on some type of moronic quest to punch Georgia fans like his coach had ordered. Is coach fish fry going to stick by his player or is he trying to distance himself so he can try and avoid more trouble?

Wow things at the trade school are looking really bad. At least y’all finally got some commits. I hope for your sake they stick around even when all the facts about why the program is suddenly out of control are revealed.

The oline is shaping up nice. Hopefully the staff can land some more good defensive recruits. Also like Brendan Douglas, who is way underrated and starting to pick up interest.
Wow really you seem to be really reaching when saying GT is spinning out of control due to one kids arrest for a bar fight. Remind me again on how many players UGA will be short for the first four games.

I love how all the recruiting sites have these kids rated different and different sizes. Griffin goes from 6′4″ – 6′6″ and 265-285. Either way with some of the guys on campus now the ones coming next week and these guys if they stay committed are going to make a solid oline for GT.
Just to add some bad news Bowden is probably heading back to Vandy.

@Really? why don’t you just troll on back over the GA blogs. It’s already been noted that Alford was immediately suspended from the team and any team activities. But hey why let the facts get in the way of a good troll? BTW did you ever figure out the difference between libel and liable?

@Ramblin Man, these kids at 17 or 18 can drop or add 15-20 lbs in a week! Trust me, I know, I just shipped an 18 year old to summer semester at TN Tech and during the football season he would go from 270 to 250 and back again depending on how his appetite was a gvien week LOL!

How about you provide us a link to that information. If you can’t, then YOU ARE LYING OUT YOUR F’ING ASS !!! GO TO HELL, YOU POS SCUMBAG !!!!

Another good pick up!!! Tech should have a SOLID OL for a while. Now, lets focus on DEFENSIVE linemen!! Tech is stacked at linebacker and at the defensive back positions, but most of the games Tech has lost over the past 4 seasons have been lost largely due to an ineffective defensive line. When you can’t put pressure on a QB, he’s gonna tear you up every time. We have some really good DL guys coming in the 2012 class, but we will need more depth in order to be truly competitive all season. Perhaps I’m overly optimistic, but I think folks had better be worried about facing Tech in 2013-2016!!!

@ 230gr….we DO INDEED have some good DL’s coming in the 2012 class, and they should be a force in the years to come. But, yes, we need more and more of them.

The more the better. You can’t have too much depth, especially where the big uglies are concerned. Just ask any realistic dwag fan. They actually believe that they have a chance at the NC with THAT line???? I guess they are just being delusional as usual. They sure do win a lot of preseason NC’s. @ Supersize, no doubt. I have a lot of family who graduated from UGA and they just get besides themselves when so called “fans” like him are allowed out in public. Of course ilk like that will come in and whine about what Tech fans say about GA. I saw that GA had a decommit today and it bothers me that these young men do not seem to have a sense of commitment. Tech, GA, AL, TN it doesn’t matter who has it happen to them it just a shame that it happens. If you’re not sure then don’t verbal. It really is that simple.

OJF……I have several friends here in Augusta who are UGA fans, and not one of them is like Really? or any of the other trolls on these blogs. They are more like Dawg48 and a couple other UGA FANS who post on here from time to time. They love UGA, but they also respect Tech, and most of them wish Tech were back in the SEC. I have been having some work done on my house lately, and one of the workers showed up here the first day wearing a red UGA t-shirt. I kidded him a little at first, but it turns out he is an extremely classy and informed UGA fan. We’ve had several serious and enjoyable conversations about the rivalry, and there’s not meanness or bitterness or even sarcasm involved at all. And, by the way, he really likes Johnson, not something you will read from any of the trolls on these blogs.
