How was the Alabama visit for UGA’s top football recruit?

How did it go with UGA’s top football recruit visiting Alabama over the weekend?

Well, Derrick Henry, the 5-star tailback from Yulee, Fla., remained committed to UGA on Sunday night after returning from his mini-vacation at Alabama.

That appears to be good news for UGA, doesn’t it? However, Henry is keeping people guessing by putting this on Twitter:

“I will make statement soon, after I talk it over with coaches and family”

Henry’s coach at Yulee (Fla.) High School, Bobby Ramsay, made some statements to Dawg247sports (subscription required): He complimented Alabama for its success in winning national championship and putting players in the NFL, said Nick Saban made it clear that Alabama was recruiting Henry at the RB position (and not LB like some have speculated), and said Alabama’s coaches stated “If you tell us not to recruit you, we won’t recruit you, but otherwise we’re going to recruit you.”

The photo that UGA fans cringe to see. 5-star RB Derrick Henry tweeted this picture of him wearing an Alabama jersey, asking "What do you think?"

The photo that UGA fans cringe to see. 5-star RB Derrick Henry tweeted this picture of him wearing an Alabama jersey, asking "What do you think?"

Henry’s coach has also had some other nice things to say about Alabama recently.

Finally, when will Henry make his highly-anticipated statement? There’s no telling but he just may do it on his Twitter account that you can check it here.

Now to the big question: Should UGA be worried after Henry’s visit to Alabama? Please post below.

What a busy weekend. Let’s hit some of the high spots:

WEEKEND WRAP

  • UGA got commitment No. 20, beating out Georgia Tech in a rare head-to-head showdown for a top in-state prospect. Lots of twists and turns in this one (click here to read more). He’s the son of a former Georgia Tech football star, seemed to almost write UGA off his list at one point because they weren’t keeping in touch on a regular basis, was rumored to be on the brink of committing to Georgia Tech, and then went public with his week-old decision in favor of UGA on Saturday. Here’s the full recap.
  • Nick Saban finally got himself a Georgia QB. This year’s class is one of the best ever out of the state, and Saban has been in hot pursuit. He had a 90-minute Skype conversation with Brice Ramsey, who remains committed to UGA. Alabama also made offers to Marietta’s Anthony Jennings (committed to LSU) and Cedar Grove’s Johnathon McCrary (Vanderbilt). Well, one of Georgia’s best has finally committed to Alabama and it’s … (click here)
  • Steve Spurrier was really, really happy about signing 12 players out of the state of Georgia last year and he may get just as many this February. The Gamecocks got two commitments over the weekend, including the surprising decision of Camden County OL JP Vonashek, who has two teammates committed to UGA. Vonashek appeared to be on the brink of pledging to UGA only a couple of months ago. What’s the story?
  • Just in case you forgot about Robert Nkemdiche, his Grayson teammate committed to a Pac-12 school on Friday night. Friday night? Yes. Will Robert be going with him? You know how those conspiracy theories work. Not likely here, though.
  • Georgia Tech had one of its football camps over the weekend, and Paul Johnson explains what he gets out the summer sessions.

Derrick, if you are reading this, I hope you talk to your parents and coaches about keeping your promise to sign with Georgia and play for a fine Christian man like coach Richt. He is a man of integrity and honesty. He cares more about as a person and is a role model. If you get injured your senior year, coach Richt will honor your scholarship. May God bless you.

I don’t know if this is that bad. Granted, most recruiting services rank Henry as our highest rated player. Now, it will hurt loosing him (which obviously looks to become a reality soon) but let’s not get worked up over one player. We just got Naim Mustaffa so that will sweeten the loss. Also, pretty sure the last time we got a young, impressive looking, physical athlete and with this player came the question- linebacker or running back? This sounds like Richard Samuel all over again. Big, physically gifted athlete and also our “best” recruit for his class and our coaching staff turned Richard Samuel into a straight up and down downhill runner. Now, that just doesn’t compute. Good teammate, likable guy or not. Richard Samuel has been a bust for how highly rated he was. And with the quality and quantity we already have in our backfield, let him go. I’d much rather see us get a big athletic pass rusher that Grantham can teach instead of another Richard Samuel.

I think it’s interesting that Derrick didn’t simply jump on the wagon at Alabama! Don’t sell him short! I think he’s a man of his word which says more than you can say about Sabin. When a player gives his word that he has chosen a particular school, it follows that he should simply stop shopping and live up to his word. Surely, there was enough at UGA in the first place to convince him that this is his place. He will never go wrong with Mark Richt!!! Besides, he has the best and most open door policy for transferring if a player later decides he wants to move! This says everything about the character and integrity of Mark Richt! It would sbe nice if the players live up to the same commitment! GO DAWGS!!!

Victorious Sakrete? What the hell does that even mean? So who do you blame our decline of running back production since Knowshon Moreno? (Tony Ball was running backs coach then) Oh surely it couldn’t be Bryan Mcclendon (who was a receiver in college) who has sunk every single high profile tailback recruit we’ve gotten since he took over as rb’s coach- Caleb King, Richard Samuel (both were blue chip athletes, Ealey. If it’s his “natural style of running” than shouldn’t it be the coach’s job to “fix” it? About your last line………………..wtf are you talking about??? Your referring to satan in a sports blog?? Your comment is no better than TX DOG’s prayer for Henry. Don’t comment if your not going to put decent thought and insight into it.

bubba4dawgs,

The problem with these young kids giving their commitment is that they are just 17 year old kids. Really pretty simple. They are enjoying the star light and for many of them, their emotions take over and they make quick decisions, only to regret having done so, later on down the line. Henry is not the first one and surely will not be the last. Players flip all over the place from a verbal commit they gave, from every school, so really, he’s not doing something that is unique for his age group.
Wish the kid luck in the future and I hope he makes the right decision for himself, because he will have 3 or 4 years to live with it and it could shape his future.

Bitter…I love how we can take one game from a kid in high school against a very good defense and through that, determine that he is not very good. Most sites have him as a 5 star but I guess since you dont think he is any good, we should just trust you. I watched some youtube clips from the Milton-Walton game last year. Carl Lawson, 5 star commit headed to AU, didnt have a great game. I guess we can determine he too will be a bust.

I bet if Henry wasn’t considering Alabama, there would be no talk of that Buford game. I also bet he would go back to being a better RB than Jones and Tenpenny. I mean, he was according to UGA fans prior to his interest in Alabama.

Thomas Brown

June 11th, 2012
8:43 am

It’s a concern because Derrick Henry is one of our only 2 Top 100 football players nationally to commit to our team with a 3.30 average recruit ranking. Despite comments to the contrary, he is a full-on running back with great speed for a man his size, an accomplished runner whom Nick Saban or Mark Richt would play at running back. Both have depth at the position, although UGA has more depth. Should we lose him on a flip from the official visit last night, our recruiting class shapes up to-date as a poor replacement class for the 14 under 85 signed to play here who are attrition. Far greater attrition, 150% more, than Nick Saban. And, this class would be a poor replacement for the seniors and juniors we have this up-coming 2012 season which includes our entire defense possibly leaving after this season.

AltamahaDawg

June 11th, 2012

The definition of commit is correct, but its the timing that has been mistaken. He isn’t committed till he does “bind” and that (event) is still the same thing it was before we had the internet telling us every comment he has ever made for the 2 years leading up to a LOI.

Anything prior to that is simply accepting an invitation.

Paddy,
I agree with you. I don’t like these kids being recruited from their freshman year and beyond. D.H. is a perfect example of why the practice needs to be reined in. I think, no kid should be allowed to be offered until he is finished his junior year in High School. These kids and families get so involved in the whole deal, that they neglect their school work and lose focus on what they should be doing and enjoying at their age. Let them grow up a little first and realize that playing ball, is not all there is to life. I realize a lot of them see it as a way to improve their economic or social place in life, but how many coaches tell them, that less than 1% of the college players ever reach the NFL, and they need to get their education while they are paying for their scholarship, playing ball for a college.

Thomas, 1 person does not make a class.

We are filling out needs nicely with Wiggins and Matthews at DB, a good core of LB’s and depth on the DL. In addition, we are adding depth on our OL and WR. If we miss out on Henry, we will be fine. Kamara/Jones will be a great backfill.

Jones will not attend UGA so move on sport. As Mr. Brown stated take off Herny from your current group and you become VT or USCe. Filing out sports open is what this class is all about and it shows. I must admit I don’t care whether he selects Bama or not but I don’t wish for us to lose either of the backs we have committed as of today over this guy. Trying to manage the RB and QB roster depth has to be worse than any of the others due to the “Look at Me” from those players that want to be a star. People get hurt and people transfer so even if you did a decent job managing your slots you can still be in big trouble in a hurry if you have a little bad luck. 4 is a solid number and 5 is better but how do you keep 4/5 good RB’s or QB’s happy for a extended period of time….answer…you don’t.

Kamara is rated better by many in the know. The pipeline from Norcross to UGA does not exist but it does to Alabama along with many Gwinnett players throughout the years, unlike the fact that UGA has just found Gwinett on the map for 2013 class. I find it hard for any RB to commit to UGA OR ALABAMA because of the existing depth and the fact they are first and second year players. Why would Henry or Kamara get in behind that crew and dont tell me about competition etc. that is BS, it is about the best opportunity to play early and alot.

That’s wishful thinking I’m afraid. Who exactly is going to monitor that? There’s not way these football prospects aren’t going to be the center of attention in that world. Are the dozens of recruiting sites, and blogs, and ESPNworld just going to ignore them? The hands off rules would be more of a inside joke, than anty real practise. You could pass a rule not to “offer” till after junior year, but I am not sure that would really change anything.

Also, I am not so sure that grades aren’t emphasised as a result of early college football scholarship offers. If anything it might be an incentive. I don’t notice too many top recruits getting into grades issues .Actually I am surprised there aren’t a lot more that don’t qualify. I don’t know exactly where Henry will attend school at this point, but neither he nor his family have told UA to stop recruiting him at this point and the Tide is all in for his service.

Alabama has a rich history of placing running backs into the NFL and I’m sure this is weighing in on young Henry’s mind at this point.

UGA would be a good choice, but players have to consider that Athens is a party and drinking town where athletes, students, and people in general have access to drugs, drinking, and crazy people around the clock, and for a young man just venturing out on his own that is a hell of a temptation to have to be burdened with.

I think his family would prefer him to take his talents to Tuscaloosa where a conducive environment exists, one which will prepare his scholastic abilities as well as his athletic prowess without all the devilish temptation of the Clarke County Penal Colony.

Time will tell, but if Henry looks at all things openly and objectively along with the player arrest record and compares the discipline issues of both programs, the choice for moral clarity is painfully clear.

Winning a national title doesn’t matter to 99% of the kids coming out of high school. What they really care about is going somewhere that can get them to the NFL. Henry won’t be an NFL back whether he goes to Alabama or UGA. The skill set just isn’t there for that level. That being said, I’m sure he can be a very good college back and would love to have him between the hedges, but……

I hope he goes to Alabama. If he does, there is a good chance UGA lands Kamara. If you remember some older stories, Kamara, Tray Matthews, and Reuben Foster all said they want to play with each other. IF Georgia gets a commitment from Kamara, he and Matthews may be able to get in Foster’s ear and get him to flip. It may be wishful thinking, but it also may not be that far fetched.

The Horse was found to be on a banned substance, and the Racing Commission gave the Owner of Ill Have Another the opportunity to bow out gracefully(tendinitis excuse) as opposed to busting the Owner & Trainer for doping the Horse up — which would have been a serious black-eye for the Racing Community, especially with the World watching as the Horse tried to become the first Triple Crown winner in 30+ years!!

Their is no way this Horse should have been RETIRED over a bum toe!! The trainer of Ill Have Another is reportedly under investigation in both California & Florida for doping Horses.

I’ll Have Another failed a drug test in NY State & the Racing Community is covering it up!!!

Alabama has had JUST as many players arrested in the past 2 years as UGA, just as many players leaving the program, and a nice recent addition of an assistant coach to the police blotter. You Bama fan need to stop fooling yourself that just becasue the T-ville police get season passes, that there is some “moral” high ground over there. Your policies, by definition, are FAR weaker on discipline than all but a few SEC schools. Lets just cut the crap about that. You look silly and hypocritical.

If you think beating top football teams doesn’t matter to this recruits, which Alabama just did twice to win the current national championship against teams who came in in the AP Poll Top 10 and did previously 3 times to win their other NC of the 3 current national championships, while we’ve not beat 1 top team making the AP Poll Top 10 after beating # 9 Auburn way back in 2006 (same year we lost to Vandie who beat only 0-12 Duke and 1-11 Temple 2006)

You are not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

2006 was now this up-coming 2012 season 7 seasons ago. Since then, Alabama has 6 wins over teams who made it to the AP Poll Top 10. If you want to know why Alabama averages 3.63 for their recruits to our 3.30, it’s because top football players want to beat top football teams.

The fact is UGA is in the drivers seat in the east. Coach Richt needs to concentrate on beating S.C. this year so there is no doubt who is best in the east. Bama fans seem to be really worried about us this year. If they were so confident, they wouldn’t pay us any attention. Looks like they see that UGA can possibly unseat them as the alpha-dawg in the SEC. If it wasn’t true, then why would they care so much about everything we do. kingdaddy…this is a recruiting blog. Its where we discuss recruiting. I can assure you no Alabama fans are worried about UGA this year. You guys have basically a cake walk in the east and if you dont make it to Atlanta Richt should be gone. The SEC is the toughest division on college football and the title will go through the West and that is pretty common knowlegde. When all is said and done in this upcoming recruiting class, I have little doubt BAMA will finish ahead of UGA once again, with our without Derek Henry. You guys are ahead now because of numbers (we have 6 fewer recruits at this time) but BAMA is not far behind at all. Players go to UGA because it is a great school that could have a great football program with the right coach. Players go to Alabama because we have a great school and the best coach in college football who wins championships. There is no shift in power happening right now and Mark Richt didnt all the sudden figure out how to coach and is now a better coach than Saban. Just accept the fact that BAMA has been stockpiling talent since Saban arrived (4 #1 recruiting classes in 5 years and soon to be 5 of 6) and while you may see a little drop off between certain season like you did in 2010, that drop off will be a ten win season followed by competing for a national championship. You cannot say the same things for UGA.

South Carolina is in the drivers seat for the east. They currently have the best overall athletes as a team and best coaching in the east. They also play both UGA and ARKANSAS at home. The schedule stacks up nicely for South Carolina with a win over UGA in the sixth game. If UGA wins then we should be in. South Carolina has a better overall team and talent than UGA for the 2012 season. Both teams has issues at O Line but overall: South Carolina is in SEC EAST drivers seat

Alabama needs and wants Georgia recruits, and offers a better option than the UGA plantation provides, and that is only beneficial to all the kids and families of the region for all sports.

Alabama has some great linemen coming into the 2013 class who can shore up the graduating and NFL bound players who will be leaving after this season ends.

Brown is a 6-foot-6, 310-pound lineman from ASA College in Brooklyn, N.Y. He is the third tackle, the fourth offensive lineman and the first junior college player to commit this year to Alabama

The other tackles committed to Alabama are Andy Dodd, a 6-4, 325-pound four-star prospect from Pepperell High School in Lindale, Ga., and Bradley Bozeman, a 6-4½, 304-pound three-star prospect from Handley High School in Roanoke.

The Tide also has a commitment from Grant Hill, a 6-5, 315-pound, four-star guard from Huntsville High School.

You must have an Oline who can make the holes necessary and Saban & Company seem to have a knack for finding those key players that take you over the hump.

Plus we are building another brand new weight room and updating the facilities we just updated already.

Bama has the best sports medicine, facilities, and insurance plans for its athletes, along with “after care” down the road, and guess what it’s all transparent before you sign that LOI!

Ask UGA coaches about that one.

crickets….

kingdaddy…what does the fact that UGA has won 3 of the last 4 have to do with ANYTHING? BAMA has won 2 of the last 3 national championships. Agains UGA, in the last 6 games the record is 3-3. The overall series record favors BAMA. I always find it funny that when I see UGA fans speaking with Florida fans, they want to talk about the overall series record, but when they talk with BAMA fans, they only want to talk about the last 4 games. How convenient.

I understand BAMA won’t stay on top forever. I understand that the leaders cycle. However, when UGA is up, it results in an SEC east title or maybe a SECCG win. When BAMA is up, its National Championships.

Richt/ Booboo and you Georgia people just can’t figure it out can you. This is why it’s been 31 years. Hell you could have had the most physical offensive backfield in America in Anthony Jennings(QB), Quayvon Hicks (FB) and Mike Davis(RB). And they could have lined up behind the most physical offensive line in America in Shamire Devine (OT), Brandon Greene (OT), Jeremi Hall (OG), Joshua Outlaw (OG), and Joe Harris (Center). All Georgia kids and all gone but Hicks! Richt, Booboo and Friend need to give it up. Richt needs to hit Bolivia. Booboo and Friend can team up and compete in fishing tournaments. 31 years. Surely you are not (because you seem like a pretty level headed poster) going to defend the position that The University Of Alabama, or anybody else, has sort sort of moral high ground when it comes to the behavior of it’s football players. Personally, I think that’s a pointless debate, as all schools deal with the exact same type of issues. Since Henry will never play offense, it really doesn’t matter who is calling the plays on that side of the ball. These articles are completely glossing over the fact that we (UGA) are loaded at RB, and Henry is a LB. He will be a LB at UGA, he will be a LB at Bama, and he will be a LB at any other school in the South he chooses to attend. The kid is fooling himself into thinking he can play RB at this level. He can not, and he will not. Personally, I am sick of the games. We currently have an excellent class, if he wants to be a part of it, great. If not, oh well. Make up your mind and move on.

@ Dawg in Lex …….emotional, aren’t we? I since your frustration being a dog fan – it must dirve you crazy seeing all these SEC teams win National Tiltles while Georgia fell back into the pack – and then was a bottom four SEC team in 2010. Decent job returning to some respectability last season – but those 4 losses were exposed georgia for what they are – and how details are overlooked by your current staff. Details like special teams – which were abysmal for uga last year.
Details – like your QB not hanging onto the ball – SABAN would have let hinm sit out a few series to get the point across.

So here is the deal – Richt is a good man but has proven that he is not an elite HC. He is, however, a successful HC. A step above Jim Donnan – but no where in the class of Urban, Les Miles, Saban, or Spurrier. do you really think that uga will win a NT with Richt as your coach?

D. Henry is going to Bama. You know it, I know it, He knows it.

Saban has it rolling at BAMA – far superior than what UGA is doing or has done under Richt.
Again, Richt is successful – but is not elite.

Look for UGA to finish 2nd or 3rd in the SEC East this year to South Carolina, Florida and maybe Tennessee.
Your defense should be OK – your offense will look good against poor teams – but struggle against the good ones. Again, OLINE issues, no special teams discipline, suspended players, and a QB that does not take care of the ball in bigtime situations.

Well seeing that Derrick Henry is photographed in a # 2 Alabama jersey would that not relate to Alabama finishing second? Michael Carvell you also first need to check with Derrick’s Grandmother before you go stirring the pot with his HS Coach, Nick Saban, getting the Tide all worked up over a possible flip! And at 6′ 4″ 245 lbs Derrick needs to smarten up a bit, even in the league that’s future DE/OLB size a lot of $ to be made. (should equate to Grantham) I would think also better to be the pound-er rather than the pounded! Which University he picks will work well for him. All the state of Alabama has going for it is college football along with their cousin’s over in Auburn. Even Nick Saban invested most of his dollars, in real estate, in the state of Georgia! The only straight answer to which school he will play for will come from his Grandma or Mom!

Turn your heads dog fans —

The Nick’s Kids Fund delivered a No. 14 of its own Thursday at the Old Overton golf course.

The charity organization of University of Alabama coach Nick and Terry Saban, Nick’s Kids, held its annual golf tourney, where funding was announced for a new home construction in Alberta City for a tornado victim. Partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa, Nick’s Kids originally funded 13 new homes to match the Crimson Tide’s number of football national championships, but added a 14th home to the goal after UA won its 14th national title in January. Nick’s Kids has donated $720,650 to the 14 for 14 Project.

“I think we gave 1.2 million dollars last year to tornado relief,” Saban said. “Half of that money was actually contributed by the people who are in this group here today, who are sort of our core group of Nick’s Kids supporters, as well as our efforts and many other people.”

Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa executive director Bob Johnson indicated 10 of 14 homes are complete with final construction stages under way on two more, and early construction under way on the last two.

“We will dedicate to move the family in in August,” Johnson said. “I know the family, and it’s a family that lived right in the middle of Alberta City. They lost everything in the tornado. They’re a hard-working family. It will be a new start for them. But it’s not just this family. There are 13 other families that have had their lives changed by the partnership the Sabans have had with Habitat.”

Saban said Nick’s Kids was founded in honor of his father and his support of local children, adding that wife Terry handles much of the Nick’s Kids workload.

“My mother always said if you’re ever in position to do anything to help young people, that’s what your dad wanted to do,” Saban said.

Have you guys seen the tape on Anthony Jennings? Arguably the BEST QB in America. Easily one of the strongest! I think he’s ahead of Cam Newton at this stage. My guess is that his father Willie may have felt that he didn’t take advantge of the opportunities presented him as a young athlete, and is going to make sure his son Anthony doesn’t make the same mistake. The kid is an absolute freak, and set off an all night celebration on Bourbon Street when he announced for the Tigers. I have a hard time Nick Saban, winner of three national Championships in the past 10 years is going to put the kid at the wrong position and not recruit him for the right position. Contractor…Saban will start a kid at the position they want to play. Take Brent Calloway as an example. We were recruiting him as an athlete and most felt he would end up at LB. He came in last year and was a RB but was moved before spring practice to LB. Shortly after, due to depth issues, he was moved to H-Back where he should see a lot of time in the rotation. Henry is a much bigger back than Trent or Mark and I would imaging at his age he has room to grow. I just cannot see a guy at that size at RB at any school.

It is about the fact that Bama just came off probation however the NCAA still looks at them as habitual violators… This is the third time in 15 years the program has been slapped with this status. In the NCAA report is states Bama is a “serial repeat offender”, saying its infractions track record was “abysmal”. Also said its history regarding infractions was “unprecedented”. If you dont like it, get the author to quit putting Alabama in so many of his blog headlines. At the same time, this is the AJC not the Athens Banner Herald. In Atlanta there are a lot more people than just UGA or GT fans. Just saying…

As far as being 2:1 on head to head recruiting battles, congrats on winning the in state guys?!? We recruit a few guys in GA and wont get them all but we will get our fair share.

Finally, I will concede the # of national titles but in listening to the ESPN/ABC broadcast of the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP game (which BAMA played in) they said we had 9 national poll titles. So, one more than the 8 you guys claim. Plus that is 8 more than your dogs have.

@DawginLex good stats but let’s get down to brass tacks here. Not to beat a dead horse here but the results are vastly different in comparing final outcomes. Teams can recruit the best players in the nation every year but what their coaching staff does with that talent is a totally different story. Some fans are happy with winning 10 games a year which is a fine accomplishment in its self. Whereas some of the same fan base want to win National Championships or at least compete for them on an annual basis. Comparing UGA and Alabama is valid to the point of both schools having rich traditions and long histories. You know as well some people that follow college football buy stock in the notion that National Championships normally define the success of a school’s football program. Sustainment of success develops the trend as the school being a traditional power.

DawginLex,
I really doubt this will be a rebuilding year for Bama. Reason being the OL will probably be the best in the country (Phil Steele list 3 as preseason All Americans) and with the experience Mccarron has we will open the offense up a bit more. I expect us to be undefeated when we visit Baton Rouge with the winner advancing to the SECCG same as last year.
PS I will gladly take finishing 2nd in our division for another NC. Be honest….wouldn’t you. :)

I am sure that CMR and Bobo are not losing any sleep over whether Henry will de-commit. Ever since Da Rick Rogers changed his commitment a few years ago at the last minute after being committed for a year which left Georgia with no time to get a replacement, Georgia doesn’t take it for granted that any of the recruits will end up signing. The new philosophy is we only want you if you want to be at Georgia and until you sign in February you are not apart of Georgia and if you decide to go somewhere else good luck. Too many fans on this blog are letting 17 year old KIDS affect them. The biggest thing I want Mark Richt to get across to the new recruits is that the coaches run the show at Georgia and the days that the players had any say so is in the past. And if you don’t like it don’t come to Georgia.
I don’t want Georgia to ever get back into the problems we had the last few years. McGarity coming to Georgia was the best thing that has happened to us in a long time even though Grantham’s decision to come was equally important.

What has this defense done to deserve such praise? Well against teams who finished in the top 25 last year they gave up an average of 38 points! Let me school you on the game of football. 38 points per game is not winning football. That’s called going 0-4.

“Nothing has changed really, and he is still committed to Georgia RIGHT NOW.

As I said last night. Saban typically will not accept a commitment until a prospect has talked it over with his parents. Saban is not pressuring this kid… he will not make or break Bama’s class and he has an uphill battle to see the field at RB for either school. My prediction is UT if he doesn’t wish to play defense.

Bottom line:
When a region of the country is blessed with this many great running backs and players in general , everybody is going to get a lot of very good to great players and it all boils down to coaching.Just about every close game Georgia has lost in the last 5 years was because we got out coached in that game. We will see soon if that has changed. Last year was the first time we actually lost a few close games because of too many turnovers when the coaches were holding their own. That is what is so encouraging about 2012. Maybe everybody is finally on the same page.

Who says the Dawgs need a “top-flight” running back in this class? We could probably skip a year of “really good high school running backs with lots of potential,” and hey, who’s to say we don’t still land one or two solid backs. Not everybody can be a hero, cause somebody’d got to stand on the sidelines and jump up and down when they go by.

lets change direction… This guy really showed out at Nick’s camp and UGA as well as Florida are high on his list. Nick and staff are trying very hard to get this guy to give us a look.

Four-star defensive lineman Antonio Riles (Lawrenceville, Ga./Archer) has had a busy week. The 6-foot-4, 270-pound prospect camped Monday at Alabama, Thursday at Georgia and Saturday at Florida, but he admits his journey got off to a surprising start.

“Getting an offer from the Tide really caught me off guard,” Riles said. “The Alabama offer changes things, and I am highly considering them.”

In May, Riles mentioned Florida and Georgia as co-leaders, but on Sunday he was not ready to name a particular school as No. 1.

“Florida, and Georgia are still up there at the top, and Clemson, Tennessee and Texas A&M are in there as well,” he said. “But Alabama kind of shot up there, so I have to do some re-examining. I am pretty much set with the schools that I like, but it is starting to get really tough.”

The quality of his performance in Tuscaloosa was what earned Riles an offer from the Tide, and he had to earn it against two of the most coveted offensive tackles in the country.

“At Alabama I went up against Laremy Tunsil (Lake City, Fla./Columbia) and Orlando Brown Jr. (Suwanee, Ga./Peachtree Ridge), and they had some of the quickest feet I had ever seen,” Riles said. “Tunsil is not the No. 3 prospect in the country for nothing.”

I don’t truly worry about Dawg or their fans, ‘just like to pick on their porch fans sometimes when the mood is fitting.

Blue vs Bama is the game of the year. We could lose that game no doubt about it, but it wont be because we came into the season “fat and out of shape” like UGA did last year.

I’m pretty sure if we got to play S.C. or LSU TWO TIMES WE WOULD HAVE WON ONE FROM BOTH TEAMS. Let’s see, S.C. had two SEC losses, while UGA had one. UGA won it outright by the rules. The same rules that applied to everyone, NOT JUST SOMEONE SPECIAL. Bama may or may not have deserved a second shot at LSU, but they made the best of it. UGA won the division by the same rules S.C. played with. Time for the crying to stop. You want to change the rules, change them, but if you change them, you must leave them that way. I will also say UGA is a better team this year than the bama trolls give us credit for. Our teams success depends on 3 things: #1, Coach Granthams D. #2, Coach Bobo becoming a ligitimate OC, and #3, Coach Richt keeping the team from imploding again with discipline. Bottom line is coaching, we get that, we win…

GRANTHAM trained by SABAN…………………………………..LOL. ……….Even GRANTHAM realizes he learned more fron SABAN than he will ever learn from anyone on the UGA STAFF.I love how he just worships SABAN,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,LOL

“I’ve been fortunate to be around a lot of quality coaches and I’d say I’ve got a little bit of all of them in me,” he said. “But I think Frank Beamer and Nick Saban probably had the greatest influence on me because I played for Coach Beamer and that was my first full-time job. So I got to see how he worked and how he was organized. With Nick, I’d say he’s been the greatest influence on me from a defensive perspective. … It was just the volume of defense that I learned. There’s a reason Nick is successful and is really good at what he does.”

“When I saw Nick go into a home, I saw how he’d get the players’ attention because he had been in the NFL and I knew I wanted to get that on my resume,” Grantham said

Grantham sounds very Saban-esque when the conversation turns to Georgia’s 2012 defense.

“Our teams success depends on 3 things: #1, Coach Granthams D. #2, Coach Bobo becoming a ligitimate OC, and #3, Coach Richt keeping the team from imploding again with discipline.”
_______________________________________________________________________

Our team’s success is not measured by coming in 1st in The SEC East and 5th in The SEC as we just did; it’s measured by us beating teams who actually come in in The AP Poll Top 10. With such a schedule we face again this year, 9.6 wins a year is totally unacceptable when of the 12 regular seasons’ games, only South Carolina made it to any top 25 poll. We have attrition out the ying-yang with 109 Mark Richt has signed to scholarships here to play this 2012 season, and only 71 of them still on our roster even on 12 June 2012. Our team’s success is not measured by a couple of blowhards running on AJC blogs and bragging how great Mark Richt is for his 1st 11 years when he has beat 3 teams in 11 years out of 16 games against teams who actually made the AP Poll Top 10.

Mike Bobo isn’t going to become your legitimate Offensive Coordinator. We’ve proven that going to the NFL for Coordinators, works. Legitimize our athletes on offense by bringing in someone to legitimize what is a failed offensive pass-happy strategy with no commitment to the OL all 11 years, and only a commitment to talking about ball security, while we play Favorites on Offense and coddle them fumbles, interceptions and suspensions disregarded.

Todd Grantham has a 1-year window to put up a defense 2012, but with the end of this easy schedule season, in which once again 2012 as in 2011 we have the easiest schedule of all SEC teams, we lose the entire defense – 11 could be drafted.

Both offense, defense and special teams are suffering from our attrition rate. No team in the history of NCAA Probations has ever been forced to go into a season with only 71 remaining scholarships of those whom their Coach of his own volition signed 109 here to scholarships to play 2012.

13-1 for 2012 for UGA. And, we better for the 1st time since beating # 9 Auburn 7 long seasons ago, beat teams who actually make the AP Poll Top 10. It’s way too late to talk about Discipline now for the 2012 season when we have all these suspensions to deal with for just the arrests, guilty pleas, NCAA Drug Tests failed, beating up little girls, stealing from teammates, and flunking out including 2 more in the last week before they even get here – hopefully those 2 can get qualified; but our recruiting at 3.30 average recruit is way down from Mark Richt’s average 3.65 recruit and he couldn’t beat the teams who did come in in the AP Poll Top 10 with 3.65 recruits and still at 3.30 we have nothing but attrition around here.

You can make up whatever excuses you want for that. You are still left with the fact that Mark Richt in 11 seasons has beat 3 teams only out of 16 games who made it to the AP Poll Top 10. Looking at the current 6-years, only Vandie and Missy State of all SEC teams have fewer wins over teams who made the AP Poll Top 10 after 2005 than Mark Richt.

Wishing and Hoping isn’t going to fix this. Facing it head-on and admitting where we are weak is the only answer to improving it, because 1st you have to identify and 2nd you have to do something about it, to improve.

I could really care less if Derrick Henry becomes a Bulldog or not…………..With Coach Mark Richt’s recruiting prowess I’m sure we will end up with a top RB . Mabe it will be Henry, mabe not, but we will get a good’un before it is all over, the numbers are on our side. The one thing I do like about Henry though, is his size and power for short yardage situations………….But me? I would hope coach Richt would look around a little more and find a big back who knows how to duck his head and get two or three tough yards when you need them……………Chill DOG NATION………..We are looking pretty dadgum nasty as it is…………..All I want for Christmas is a few great big ‘ol mean-ass Olinemen……………We’ve got the backs………..Henry would just be gravy…….and we don’t have enough cornbread to sop-up all the gravy we have now…………..RED

Yes, by all means, let’s ban posters who dare to put up our record against teams who actually made it into the AP Poll Top 10 the year we played them.

And, any poster who lists all the NFL Drafted football players who we have had while we put up such numbers.

And, by no means is a Georgia Bulldogs’ Football Fan going to post a post which shows that after 2005, when the 2005 season was now this up-coming 2012 season 8 seasons ago, only Vandie and Missy State have fewer wins over teams who actually made it into the AP Poll Top 10 than us.

Let’s lie to ourselves.

Let’s ignore what we’re actually doing.

Let’s act like Mark Richt doesn’t have a winning record against 9 teams.

Let’s act like we haven’t signed 109 recruits to scholarships to play 2012, but only 71 of them remain on the roster 12 June 2012.

Let’s bury our heads in the sand, and post to such an avid fan who would so such research that we are, and they obviously are not, Georgia Bulldogs’ Fans.

Let’s pretend that of just The 2012 SEC teams for the current 5-year results that Georgia is not # 6 in actual won/lost records.

Maybe the recruits then will not know, and not be able to find out. Never mind that every single poster to this blog ever has made all these comments themselves. So, let’s log on with a new handle and act like oh dear, that guy cannot be a Georgia Bulldogs’ Football Fan of our # 11 all-time college football program in wins, saying we are the # 23 team in wins after the 2005 season, when the 2005 season was now this up-coming 2012 season 8 seasons ago.

Tell me it ain’t true.

When the Tide got the commitment from Tyren Jones … the Dawg party line was they could care less because they had Derrick Henry .

When even the slowest Dawg figured out Henry might be gone too … they start hoping for the Jones they could “care less” about to flip back or Karmara to stick around .

If all three figure out they all have multiple possible ways they can find playing time at the top program in the nation …

The Dawg party line will then obviously become that UGA didn’t want any of them 8-)

Yes, when you are running with the big dogs (BAMA/LSU) it takes a BEAST for a coach to get you there ………..been there, done that and my kid has the rings so I think I know a little about it ….

Its a tough decision to make, so ill say to the young man as I did to my own son …..pray about it, and whatever God puts in your heart run with it and dont look back!!!!

never thought I would see it but it is true Nick Saban has offerred a long snapper a scholly! The kid camped at Bama last week and he has one week to commit or no offer (LOL). The kid is committed to UCLA as of today and is from Cali so he and his parents have to make a call soon about coming to Dixie or stick with the surfer boys.

You UGA fans really need to get the Derrick Henry anger out of your system for he is headed to Alabama. If Nick thinks he’s worth the risk of losing Tenpenny or Jones then that is ok we me. Word is both of these two are good to go with the addtition since both understand if any of the three change positions it will be Henry. Timing means a lot to Nick Saban and it’s a planned event.

Real problem
I am still concerned with S/Ts too, but only because I want an in-depth article written about this subject. I have asked all of the AJC/sports writers (for UGA) to dig for more information regarding this subject. One thing CMR said he was considering was using starters for S/Ts. He also will not name a coach to head-up the STs, but will coach by committee. As bad as we looked last year, I think this is a mistake but I will give Coach Richt the benifit of the doubt this year, at least uñtil things start to unravel. Richt isn’t stupid no matter what some of these EXPERTS on the blog want you to think. UGA haters want us to fail and even though we are heading in an upward trend, the haters want to destroy all momentum by firing all coaches, staff, administrators, secretaries, teachers, professors, meter-maids, well, you get the picture. This would be a mistake. Let this year play out and go from there. No matter what, I will respect CMR and wish him the best…

Now that you are sure of your commitment to THE DAWGS, its time to call on a few of your BIG UGLY BUDDIES to fill the holes on our OL. You can’t become a great running back on your own. It takes a cooridinated effort by the entire offense. Most positions are loaded except we need some more dominate OLs to make your job a little easier. Until we can beat teams who actually earn a Top 10 AP Poll Ranking, which we are 3-13 all 11 years for Mark Richt, there is no twisting of the facts you can make that Mark Richt in a bowl game on the national stage then everyone watching has NEVER beat a team who actually earned an AP Poll Top 10.

16 other SEC teams have done after 2005.

2005 was 8 seasons ago.

Alabama has 6 wins over top 10 AP Poll teams after 2005
LSU has 6 wins over top 10 AP Poll teams after 2005
Florida has 5 wins over top 10 AP Poll teams after 2005
Auburn has 6 wins over top 10 AP Poll teams after 2005

Only Missy State and Vandie for heaven’s sake have fewer wins after 2005 against teams who made it into the AP Poll Top 10.

That’s because we play 1 game all season long against any team made any top 25 poll

So, the voters look at our schedule, even Las Vegas, and say we run the table.

Uh, huh.

Then, Alabama or LSU in SEC Championship Game for 10-42 shellacking.

Then, some team we lose to in bowl to run Mark Richt to 7-5 in bowl games

I think Derrick Henry will consider Alabama very seriously, he is an incredible athlete (and we are recruiting him at RB), I would love to see him included with Jones, and Tenpenny in next years class of recruits.

We are bulking up for a TKO when the first 4+1 playoff’s start and don’t plan on taking any prisoners in the 2014 season, the 12 & 13 classes will be the ones that define who make the cut on the inaugural playoff picture.

LSU, USC, and UM, tOSU, OU and others are all gearing up for this, as only the ‘Best of the Best will make this cut.

Alabama is primed for a serious run in this direction and as you know Saban wan’ts his name stamped on that #1st Trophy ever made, as does Alabama wish to have it enshrined forever in its regal Capstone.

We start out in 13 & 14 playing in the Nationally Televised Chick-Fil-A Kick Off against VT, then against WVU, in 2014 which will start the Crimson Tide’s annual championship run.

I don’t have anything negative to say about the other competing schools but come on, if you are going on to the next level where will you be seen by NFL scouts the most? Heck that is not even a fair question as Alabama holds more ESPN Game Day events than the rest of the SEC combined and it’s because we are a National Brand not a regional label.

Robert, Ruben, Tyren, Andy, Derrick, Parker, Brice, Alabama offers you and some of your friends a different path than other places can take you and this is probably the most exciting time for a young man to be coming into the college experience as the planets have all aligned in a historic moment as you all will or will not dependent upon “your choice” be playing on a team who will win the First True National Championship…

A-L-A-B-A-M-A has won more National Championships than anybody else in the last 100 years and is poised to see it continue with your help and dedication to effort.

Don’t look like the champion, be the Champion @ Alabama.

What a weak argument.

We beat a 4-9 Alabama
We beat another Alabama not in Coaches’ Poll Top 25
We beat Alabama same year Louisiana Monore did
We LOST to Alabama to START this SLIDE DOWNHILL

Where is the upward trend ?

-lost 7 in a row AP Poll Top 10 teams
-lost 9 in a row AP Poll Top 25 teams
-lost 9 in row SEC teams finishing winning SEC record

-signed 109 recruits to scholarships for 2012
-have 71 remaining of them, after our attrition
-beat up another little girl last month, plead guilty to it
-arrested drugs in Alabama, paid $ 1034 fine on that last month
-no suspension for drugs in Alabama $ 1034 fine yet
-5 failed NCAA Drug Test (some for 3rd time) Spring Practice
-no suspension for any of those 5 failed NCAA drug tests yet either
-signed head coach to extension, NO RAISE
-signed head coach to extension, cost $ 1.8 m buyout end 2013, cost $ 1.2 m buyout end 2014, cost only $ 600 thousand end 2015 to fire him and buy him out of this contract that therefore took him 8 months to sign
-average recruit 3.3 for UGA and 4.56 Southern Cal, 4.00 Ohio State, 3.93 Texas and the 3.30 is based upon our only 2 commitments of the Top 100 players as QB and RB neither one of which would we lose 1 minute of sleep over flipping because of our depth at those 2 positions.

Just like most trolls in here, you don’t research, so you don’t know what you’re talking about.
Since 1990 (I believe that’s after Hershel) SECe teams have won 13 SEC TITLES…
SECw teams have won 9 moron!
Since 2000(I believe that’s still after Hershel) SECe teams have won 5 SEC TITLES…
SECw teams have won 6 SEC TITLES
When the east was winning, no body cried. The west has won the last 3, and look at the cry babies
You said UGA only has 12 SECtitles, who has more? Just two teams in the SEC, UA (22)& UT(13)…
S.C. HAS ZERO…WHO’S CRYING THE LOUDEST? BUG-GOCKKKKKKKKK…

Hey Blackie http://footballgeography.com/?p=1159 seems the football programs at Bama and UGA have been on probation 3 times each since 1953 when the NCAA started handing them out and UGA last one was 1995..Bama has been on probation 3 times since 1995…seems we have learned from our mistakes…Bama not so much.

BTS, just keep reading his post, you may agree with him, but that’s the problem, it’s just the UGA haters that agree with him. Some of his points are good, I don’t agree with everything Richt does (tb will say, kingdaddy doesn’t agree with everything Richt does!) What he won’t tell you is that whether I agree with everything or not, I still support CMR THIS YEAR UNTIL (UNTILLLL) HE STARTS SCREWING THE POOCH. THEN I WILL TURN ON MY COACH. Now is not the time to destroy this team. Any real UGAfan will understand this, EXCEPT TB…

Please explain why any UGA football fan would argue football results with Alabama Fans? You bring nothing to the table sport but 1980. Your best option is to still rag GT and please don’t even mention Florida for that is embarrassing for you even though the Gators didn’t start playing college football until 1990.

wet willie….quite simple sport….the fact you are here on a daily basis…..the fact that the stigma attached to your average bama fan is thought of as a Updyke…..the fact that even though you have had success the past couple yrs….nothing much in way of UGA…you are 1-3 over the last decade….willie you dont have to have alot to bring to the table….just the mere fact you associate your name with the state of Alabama speaks against any credibility whatsoever…..how do those apples taste to u sport???

pridg — problem with you dwags is you see no way out. You have no future. Their are 2 behemoths in the SEC West which you have no chance of catching up to any time soon. Then you have the Fla problem. They won’t suck long — even if they do, they’ll still own the dwags — reference the Ron Zook yrs. Win something worth winning first, then you have my permission to talk — otherwise focus on beating South Carolina before you start having delusions of grandeur.

Must be thinking of ‘66. Two time defending champs. Played one close game all year. Destroyed Nebraska in the Sugar Bowl, Bryant calls it his best team, and they finish third behind Notre Dame and Michigan State, they of the Ara-sit-on-the-ball 10-10 tie. There’s a book on it called “the Missing Ring”. All that said, it’s a big stretch to claim a title. When it comes to a vote, as last year clearly proves, you win some and you lose some.
