A former AJC Super 11 selection was among the three people that died in a shooting in Auburn, Ala., on Saturday night.

Ed Christian, a football star from Lowndes High School, died at the scene, according to police.

The offensive lineman was selected to the AJC’s Super 11 team in 2009 as one of the state’s top overall players.

Christian originally committed to Florida State but later switched to Auburn. He was red-shirted at Auburn in 2010, and couldn’t play last season because of back injury which eventually led to him to giving up the sport. He was granted a medical hardship and was continuing his studies at Auburn.

Many of Christian’s former high school and college teammates are posting tributes on Facebook and Twitter.

There’s a Guest Book for Ed Christian that can be found here.

When are these UGA rednecks going to learn that there is more to life than a football game.

Sad day for a lot of families and friends in the Auburn area. Just a reflection on where our society is headed more than anything at Auburn. With that said someone in Auburn has to know what was taking place at Auburn when Tubbs was running the show and what has happened with this new regime. Tubbs had his share of players not making the grades to get into school but not the sideshow this current group has over these past couple of years. The spin cycle from the Bham News is in full swing I can tell you that.

Wet Willie so Auburn’s coaches had players attend a party? This only happens at AU? The man that is the killer is not even a student at AU. Get off your soapbox and just simply pray for the people involved. Chizik is a great man and Auburn’s players in good hands.

Did you read the full account of this incident? All that tragedy, all those talented lives wasted, all of their tomorrows gone over a dispute about a girl. Someone punched somebody, someone else broke a bottle on a head and then the guns came out. No thoughts of the future.

Doesn’t matter whether it occurred in Auburn, Gainesville, Athens, or Columbia. It’s just plain stupid!

The athletes killed were not involved in the incident, just bystanders who were picked out at random by the shooter.

3 dead so far and one clinging to life, one man wanted for capital murder and six others shot.

Are the two they are looking for (the shooters) Black? They didn’t say. Silly me, of course they are! Was alcohol involved, they didn’t say? Silly me again, of course it was! There’s about 5 things I could name and all would be a characteristic of this incident. It’s just so easy these days.

if you want to have a good time it seems you can’t be anyplace with more than about 4 people and only people you know or somebody might get shot.

The young think they will not get caught or that it can’t happen to them but it can and does.
The Culture has to change. people KNOW did it and need to tell the COPS who is responsible. This crap about being a SNITCH is garbage.

Too many guns; too easy to get guns.

The shooter will 1) turn himself in, 2) plead self-defense; 3) serve the minimum, and (more than likely) 4) do this again.

This article is not correct if Christians’ own hometown newspaper is right. The Valdosta Daily Times says “his career was cut short after the 08 season”. That says he has left football and is not a part of the team to me!

It’s all about the company you keep. I know the people I hang out with don’t carry weapons on them. I also know I won’t be getting into fights with them because we’re more intelligent than allowing a girl to get us into a fight, we son’s do drugs, and we work hard during the week. The issue is that in today’s world there are too many kids and adults even that keep bad company and hold loose friendships with people they don’t even know. Sad occurrance at Auburn, but it always comes back to personal choices and the decisions you make. Maybe this will reach out and touch someone in that community and help them start making the correct decisions.

Contractor, I completely agree with you, but this guy wasn’t “with” the football players. He saw guys talking to “his girl”. Tried to fight them and then shot at them.

When I was in college I went to a lot of parties that I didn’t know everyone that was there.

iTisi, Mr. Christian didn’t graduate high school until 2010, so wherever you are getting your information from is sadly, sadly mistaken.

But, yes, he was no longer ACTIVELY on the team due to back problems. But he was still on (medical) scholarship at Auburn as a former athlete to finish his education. So was he an active player? No. Was he a part of the team? I’m sure the answer from his teammates would be “yes”.

So I really don’t understand your point.

Tiger,

We all know people at parties, and meet new people at parties. When a fight starts, just walk away. I would love nothing more than bashing a guys face in that wanted to fight me, but these days we all know guns and knives are the way things usually end up. We also know in the black community guns and disrespect runs rampant, so this seems to always be the result. And these kids know this, it’s nothing new. Obviously I am not saying stay in your apartment or dorm all four years of college, but recognize the situation and be aware. College is a time to mature and work towards being a professional, not get into gun battles over a stinking girl. We all make mistakes, but you gotta position yourself to atleast learn from your mistakes, not letting them be the last move you ever make.

I do gots a life and this young man don’t cause he went to Auburn. Auburn and Coach Cheese Dip are the problem. This not happens in Athens cause Coach Richt teaches them to be Christain. Still sad for family but got to keep kids safe by keeping them away from Cheese Dip. Hope the family pulls together and comforted. And important for players not go Auburn so this not happen again do to Cheese Dip bad atmosphere and vibe.

i wonder how many people were packing heat at the party.
the au player who was convicted of armed robbery recently testified at his trial that pot and guns are “part of the culture on the au team”
no doubt this a tragedy, but it just adds to the auburn portfolio if you will.

Hairy Dawg you are a worthless P.O.S! You are no better than the shooter. If you can read, try to read the information to see that the university, coaches, and the victims were innocent. This has NOTHING to do with fact they went to Auburn, but a social problem. You will see once the facts come out the 2 ex players were trying to do the right things, and the shooter went for retaliation over his ex girl.
This unfortunately happens daily all over this great country of ours, and sad to say but crime makes better headlines.
Please look for the stories as they unfold of the fallen victims. These were 2 very good kids!
Thanks to all who are decent, civil on board making positive comments, and sharing they will pray for victims families.
