Naim Mustafaa: 4-star LB commits to UGA over Georgia Tech

UGA beat out Georgia Tech for LB Naim Mustafaa in a rare head-to-head battle between the two in-state rivals.

“I made my decision about a week ago; I just had to come down to Georgia and tell them face to face,” Mustafaa told the AJC on Saturday.

“It just came down to where I wanted to be, really. Georgia Tech and Georgia are both great schools. I had to choose one.”

This recruiting journey had a few twists and turns.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Mustafaa is the son of former Georgia Tech football star Najee Mustafaa (Reggie Rutland), who played seven seasons in the NFL. The younger Mustafaa was rumored to be on the brink of committing the Yellow Jackets, at one point or another.

Meanwhile, UGA did the improbable job of repairing its relationship with Mustafaa.  UGA offered an early scholarship to Mustafaa and then stopped communicating with him on a regular basis – making him think the Bulldogs were no longer interested. At the time, Mustafaa took it all in stride, saying he “really wasn’t a Georgia fan.”

After Mustafaa’s comments went public, he was quickly contacted by UGA recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner, who made it clear that he was the team’s No. 1 target at outside linebacker. Mustafaa was satisfied enough from the conversation to put UGA back at the top of his list of favorites.

The 4-star linebacker from Alpharetta High School had more than 25 scholarship offers before deciding on UGA.

Mustafaa’s commitment was good news for UGA on the same day that OL target JP Vonashek surprisingly picked South Carolina over the Bulldogs.

UGA now has 20 commitments for its 2013 recruiting class, and could end up signing around 30 in February.

Not much of Story on a practice team player but OK he got drunk (like 90% of everybody) in Athens. He is not as smart as he needed to be. Why risk that in Athens? he knows how Athens PD is.

Who said he doesn’t count as being STUPID just because he is a walk-on? I said nobody on here even knows his name unlike all the HIGH Profile UGa players that get in trouble all the time. He will be OFF the team shortly. Unlike UGa players he will not be on the sidelines for Tech again.

GSU should start out recruiting the Dunk Fake Blonde White Girls College & Plantation of Georgia……. at UGa the Athletes have to ask where are all the African American ladies?

GaSTATE could really pick up in Recruting Georgia talent moving to the SUN BELT. You can’t find this diversity at UGa

Georgia State ranked top for graduating African-Americans
By Laura Diamond
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Georgia State University was ranked No. 1 in the nation for awarding the most bachelor’s degrees to African-Americans, according to a report from Diverse: Issues in Higher Education.
Georgia State awarded 1,262 degrees to African-Americans this year, a one-year increase of 17 percent. That pushed the college past Florida A&M and North Carolina A&T State universities.
The college has also received national recognition for its success with Asian and Latino students. More than half of the school’s nearly 32,000 students are minority.

I fear GaState’s ability to get recruits UGa and Tech Want. I will still say with GT’s curriculum many of the UGa & GaState recruits will not be able to stay at TECH but it could draw kids away and same for UGa.

So even a great player for the nerds(Reggie Rutland) can’t convince his Legacy offspring that UGA is the devil & that NATS is the best & only way to be successful in life… So I’m assuming he’s forever shamed because he wanted something different outta life than an engineers cubicle for the rest of his life… Shame on R. Rutland, I’m sure he’ll be ostracized & shunned from here out by gt fans. Obviously his son’s best is not enough cause he’s a UGA loser… right nerds?…
