One of Georgia’s top quarterbacks committed to LSU on Thursday.
Anthony Jennings, a 6-foot-2, 200-pounder from Marietta High School, picked LSU out of his final list of 10 schools, which also included Alabama, Arkansas, Missouri, Oregon, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
Jennings, whose father Willie Jennings played defensive line for UGA, released a statement about his decision:

QB Anthony Jennings with LSU's Les Miles (Note: Photo is courtesy of Jennings family. Photo was not owned, arranged, distributed or publicized by LSU)
“I am very fortunate to be in the position I’m currently in, and I realize that I did not arrive at this point by myself. First and foremost, I want to thank my family for their constant love and support. I’d also like to thank all of my teammates and coaches as well as the teachers and administrative staff at Marietta High School. Special thanks also goes out to the entire Marietta community which is always so supportive of our program. Playing football at Marietta is special.
“The recruiting process has been very interesting. I’ve had the chance to meet many coaches from some of the top college football programs in America. I’d like to say thank you to all the universities that expressed an interest in me throughout the recruiting process. To have so many great programs across the country interested in me was a very humbling experience. I definitely want to express my sincere appreciation for those programs and wish them nothing but the best in the future.
“After a very thorough evaluation process including a lot of thought and prayer, I’m extremely proud to accept a scholarship offer from LSU. With this decision, I get to live out a dream of mine to play in the best conference in America, the SEC. LSU is a perennial powerhouse in college football and I’m looking forward to helping the Tigers continue to be in the National Championship hunt year in and year out. I’m looking forward to earning the respect of my future teammates at LSU and to play for a coach like Les Miles, someone who has won a National Championship in the past and knows how to get his players to perform at their very best. I’m also very excited to be coached and mentored by Steve Kragthorpe. As my position coach, we have already developed a great relationship and I know that will only get stronger in the future.
“Though I’m excited about my future at LSU, 100% of my focus and attention is on my teammates at Marietta. There is much work to be done to get ready for the 2012 season and I am committed to making myself and our team at Marietta better each and every day. We are truly a family and we are all committed to attacking the 2012 season together to represent Marietta the best way possible. My time as a LSU Tiger will be here soon enough, but I am today, and will be forever, a Marietta Blue Devil.”
Jennings was one of the country’s most-heavily recruited quarterbacks with 39 scholarship offers. Jennings and UGA did not have much contact because the Bulldogs already had a QB commitment from Camden County’s Brice Ramsey.

Best of luck in Death Valley Anthony! Judging by your statement, your parents have done an exceptional job in raising you. Please take the time to watch some old Dennis Dixon highlights, you had a chance to be the second coming! Gottat alway ride with my Ducks! All the best @ LSU except against the Dawgs and my Ducks. Continue to make your community, family and school proud of your accpmplishments on the field and, most importantly, in the classroom.

lambasting the Dogs for not signing this kid, and be very upset at UGA not getting him. How many on here think TR will express any regrets at Bama missing on him? Strange behavior for a “Bama” fan (using the term loosely of course).
Sounds like a good kid as well as a good prospect for the Tigers.

Very articulate, well spoken, young man. Very impressive statistics, but more impressed with everything else about how he handled his recruitment, his decision, his announcement, and how he intends to continue to work with his current team. Congratulations to Anthonthy, his family, and LSU.

LSU has also landed the Rivals #4 prostyle QB Hayden Rettig (California). Hayden is well aware that LSU was also going to sign a dual threat QB. This is shaping up to be a really strong QB class for LSU.

Does anyone proof read ajc articles or blogs? Is his Dad Tim Jennings? Did Tim have this kid at the age of 10? Or is it another Jennings that played for the Dawgs? Good Grief.

66%? Really? Maybe overall but there are only two FBS schools in the state and GA is one of the top five in the country for producing FBS quality players so it makes sense that a lot leave.

the Truth about Jennings

Anthony is a wonderful young man. His father, Willie Jennings, played at UGA with Eric Zeier. After a redshirt year, with Mett gone, he can compete for a starting job and will be the only dual threat QB on the roster, unless they sign one in 2014. I think his final group would have included Alabama, Oregon and Missouri. But LSU is a good spot for him and Coach Miles will treat him well. He’s already got a remarkable QB coach with his high school coach, Scott Burton.

Do you live in Camden County and seen Ramsey in person? Probably not. It’s funny how guys come on here and make comments like that. Ramsey must be something if he had Saban and Urban Meyer knocking on his door even though he was committed. ESPN has Ramsey #103 in the new ESPN 150. Jennings is not even ranked in the top 150 and that’s people who scout them for a living not someone in his den typing on a computer.

As a Georgia fan I would have loved to have seen Jennings, a solid student and great athlete/QB, go to Athens. But he will tell you quickly that everyone at Georgia, including CMR, are class acts who treated him extremely well. But anyone who has ever seen Brice Ramsey knows he has phenomenal potential and is a both outstanding prospect and great young man as well, for Camden County. I know Anthony respects Brice very much. So good luck to both of them. Hope they get to play against each other one day.

Georgia doesn’t really need another QB until the 2015 class. Richt has set it up where he will not have to rely on a Freshman or RFreshman at QB for the next 7 years. After Murray will be Mason’s 1 year, LeMay will start as a Junior and Senior the Ramsey as a Junior and Senior. We will have a QB each year that will have been in Georgia’s system for 3 years before starting. That’s how you build a dynasty.
