I’d call the Dawgs’ class very good at this point. They still have some needs to fill, but are off to a great start on the recruiting trail. Of course, recruiting has never been Richt’s problem.

I am not as wild about this class as others. I think we have gotten a lot of good talent, but it is great talent that can be difference makers in the SEC.

I don’t mind if we lose Henry, I don’t think he wants to play where he could be the biggest star and have the most nfl potential (fb or mlb).

I think getting tunsil, foster, Hargreaves, north or Robinson, and Adams would be important to having difference makers in red and black.

It’s not about ratings or stars but getting the top players on our board. For example priester is either 5th or 6th on our coaches’ board at wr, I’d prefer not taking a player that low unless we need to in January.

It is hard to rate a class of recruits right now, and you will not be able to properly rate anybody’s class. as far as potential, until after the pen hits the paper. These kids verbal for one school, but in reality, a lot of them aren’t mature enough, to realize what a commitment means and some of them will back out, be easily swayed by this coach or another, and refuse to see reality. A good rated class is one where you get the guys you need to fill needs on your team and at the same time, increase depth for future needs. The star ratings are all well and fine, but until the kid performs on the field, they do not mean a lot. Stars give you guidance, but they are all about athletic ability, not how well a kid fits into a team, chemistry established with his team mates, and his ability to keep improving at his position. If the kid is willing to learn, and is lower rated, a great deal of the time, he is usually the better performer on the field. Ask this question next year after the season is over and the kids for 2013, at least some of them, will have a year under their belt. This is the year, where some of the 2012 recruits will shine.

Georgia is off to a great start. Look for it to continue throughout the season. Grantham’s Defense is about to show what they can do and the recruits will be impressed.

Bobo will have more than a true freshman and a converted LB to run the ball and most of the Receivers won’t be freshman like last year.

What will the Alabama fans say about Richt finally signing more players than Oversigning.com’s Poster Boy Nick Saban? Will they be able to do the Math, or ,will they think Richt has out cheated their Hero?

Georgia has got to get back to controlling the football via a smash mouth running game that works. How many of you can recall the last three years when we would have a lead with about 3-4 minutes left and get the ball back and all we have have to do is pound out a first down or two………Nope, doesn’t happen. Richt will not throw the ball ( something the other teams DC knows by the way) thus they stuff the line and we punt on 4th and 7 as 3 runs are stuffed. I’ve seen it to much.

Great start but verdict still out on Will Friend; did a very poor job on recruiting OL last year; only 3 LOI’s and no OL from the state of GA; John Theus was a given since his brother was already @ UGA!! Did a poor job on handling the Chester Brown situation and a poor job on not gettin transfer Max Garcia!! Let’s see how the Dawgs close out: keeping D Henry, getting Larry Tunsil and more OL, closing out on DB’s and WR’s and maybe, by the grace of GOD, securing R Nkemdiche or R Foster!! C’mon guys, do your job!!

It seems to me like UGA is playing the “numbers game”, after what’s been happening over the last year or so. They realize after a year or two in their system that a certain players is not what they thought when they recruited him. He gets run off because they won’t play him and then they go recruit somebody to take his place. You could just call it a two year tryout. If a player can’t cut it, just flush him out and try another one. Whatever it takes, I guess.

Interesting reading my father in law’s BAMA magazine this weekend. Saban is locked down till 2019 at 5.8 mil total comp + incentives. Richt at 2.8 mil per + incentives. Kirby at 950,000. Their new unproven OC is at 650,000. Their S&C coach at 350K…………Saban is quoted in the article ” It’s a total commitment by the University and the Athletic board to attract the best and win Championships”…………………Then I looked at the Georgia magazine of the hiring of Coach Will Friend to find a similar quote for his hire at 185,000 per year…….Couldn’t find one.

I will say that Richt’s new contract was EYE Opening. The HOT seat is still glowing in reserve. McGarity has written that contract as to replace Richt at any time without a financial burden to the University. Eye opening. Anything but a vote of confidence. It’ll let recruits know he’s locked down for a while, the back door is tremendous for McGarity.

Football is no game at Alabama! UGA will always recruit well due to the talent in the state but this year Richt is taking some players just because he has the spots to fill and not based on real talent. The S&C coach at Alabama is a major major position and he’s paid well. The guy has been with Nick for years (LSU and Bama). You folks need to raise your standards regarding defense. You talk about what a great defense you have yet you have never beaten a decent football team! Great defense doesn’t give up TD’s instead they give up FG’s and you’re not close to great. Then again it’s been so long since 1980 you have no clue what is great. Keep talking for you have that part down no doubt.

Sick of all this recruiting talk. Let’s talk about graudation rates and criminal records in 5 years and I will let you know what I think about the 2013 recruiting class. Too many good kids out there that don’t get all the hype that alot of these kids get. You don’t have to have a top recruiting class to win. You recruit heart and class then look at skill. Too many skilled athletes out there that have heart and class.

Before I start bloging today, I want to thank you for working onthis Memorial Day Weekend. As I sit here with a cup of coffee, I can’t help but think of my military brothers that made it, that survived. I also have a heavy heart for the friends, family and all the people touched by the loss of a loved one, lost in the military. I hear that some people don’t like the military and don’t believe in what it stands for. They don’t believe in Hero’s, well I’m here to tell them that they are only here because of those heros. The freedoms they use to bash and disrespect my hero’s were given to to these unworthy people by the same people they dispise. My Hero’s were selfless givers who presented everyone with the ultimate gift, their lives…Say a prayer for the families, the friends and the brothers in arms today FOR THE FALLEN…

The more written about Alabama and Nick Saban on the AJC blogs, the more he is read by the state of Georgia and beyond for his recruits. Alabama does not need our help.

Our recruiting class looks very good at this point. We need to continue working hard on keeping what we have knowing a few will sign elsewhere, it is the nature of dealing with young men with big egos. We need to continue to pursue the very best recruit verbal commitments elsewhere and steal a couple, it is the nature of the business. We need to continue to work hard on those that have not committed anywhere. But most of all, we need to win the SEC to make recruiting a whole lot easier!

Henry will go to Bama with a deal that he gets 1st shot at RB but if after a year if he can’t get playing time then he will switch to other positions that will allow him the best chance to play. The good news is that just might swing Kamara(sp) to UGA and he is a better college RB prospect than Henry regardless of the ratings.

The thing that I like about this class is that some of them are self motivated. That’s an erea that Mr Richt doesn’t do that well in order to keep his team pumped up against rank teams. I’m talking about these players:

1) Johnny O’Neal – self motivated

2) J.J. Green – self motivated

3) Derrick Henry – self motivated

4) Brandon Kublanow – self motivated

5) Tramel Terry – self motivated

6) Tray Matthews – self motivated

Robert Nkemdiche and Montravius Adams are the 2 players that will make this class complete. Both are impact players and they are self motivated. Laremy Tunsil will be a tough get for the dawgs but adding him to this class alone with Robert and Adams will put this team in position to win many championships.

Klubanow was a huge pick-up for UGA. This kid is the real deal and will be a starter as soon as he goes through some practices. I’d like to see him replace Andrews at Center, who is undersized and not as strong as Klubanow. I’d also like to see us pick up Alvin Kamara.

It doesn’t matter how good any of them are. If they aren’t Coached-up and Cut-loose, they won’t make much impact anyway. How many of these recruits will be sitting on the sidelines watching instead of playing. The defensive side is not as big a concern. CTG plays them when they’re ready, but I think CMR and CMB are in a show-me year. If a freshman can contribute, and he’s better than what we already have, then put them in. Sometimes I wonder if once we get them, we know what to do with them. I respect CMRs loyalty to his older players, but if a younger player has more potential and talent, then I say put him in and season him. I’ve had to train my replacements before and I’m sure, a lot of you have too…

The defense is safe as long as CTG is in the house, but I’m still inclined to reserve judgement on the offensive side of the ball. Derrick Henrys wishy-washy commitment is A BIG RED FLAG! Plus we need more OLs/DLs. I don’t think we can trust Derrick to honor his word and we’ve been through this before. CMR want to be loyal to the end, and then gets left high and dry. Time to Nut-up and show some spine. Henry and his ilk, make UGA look bad with their childish, prima-donna attitude. Get athletes that want to be DGDs Coach Richt, the “SOFT COMMITMENTS” are making UGA look lame…

This upcoming year is set. Dawgs “should win 10 or 11 games. Anything less than that with this schedule and this team coming back and 3 of our biggest foes ( Fla & AU & Tenn) still in somewhat of a flux would be a major disappointment. 2013 will be the telling tale for Richt. 10 of 11 defensive starters gone and a lot harder schedule. Tdawg

If you are judging on number’s committed so far, you would have to give the dawgs an A+. If you go how recruiting services rate these kid’s, you have to give the dawgs a C+. No 5 star player’s to be found among the whole 17 committed so far. Not one. On offense, I would give a grade of C so far. The O-Line players are all except for one, 3 star rated player’s, Except for the WR from South Carolina, nothing all that special there. The QB is about as unproven as any QB I’ve ever seen coming out of high school. Even though the RB position is not an area of concern, it sure would be nice to hold on to Henry.

Looking at the defense, I would give it a B+. LB and DB position looks to be coming along nicely. Nothing special as star power about the DL though.

You may question my grading, but all in all if you actually look at their star power and if this were any other school than UGA, my dawg fans would be giving the same assessment of the commits we have so far. No way in hades would you give Tech an A with this group. Now to get it to that A group level, It will take a few more of the higher rated player’s coming out of high school to make that leap. 5 or 6 should do the trick. With all that being said. No one can judge the heart and determination of these kids and maybe, just maybe they prove me wrong about the star power thing, which yes, I do know can sometimes be over rated. Still that is all we have to go on for now. If they do, it wouldn’t surprise me.

I like the idea of Mark Richt letting the kids that are wanting to come to UGA, actually come, instead of waiting to late and come up way short of what he should have gotten. Two or three really good O-Linemen and a couple of really good D-Linemen and another top notch WR would round out this class quite nicely. Maybe a lock down corner of two would be nice also.

LakeDawg

May 28th, 2012

Most of the 3 star players we have are every bit as good as the 4 stars. Recruiting services are just a bunch of middle aged men who never played football. They can pick out the top players, just like anybody that makes a living at it can, but determining who’s a 3,4, or 5 star is a crap shoot. I will add that a 3 star ranking is very broad. It encapsulates everyone from a player who’s just above a 2 star to players that probably should be 4 stars. UGA has a lot of the latter. Just remember that David Pollack was a 2 star FB.

Georgia’s 2013 recruiting class look phenomenal so far! But, here is another question for you: With upwards of 30 slots available this year, what does that say about Georgia’s prior recruiting years? Yes, some have left early for the pros, but most of the attrition has been due to other reasons. Should we go back and “re-rate” or revise opinion of previous classes in light of that?

Name me a player that Richt ran off because they couldn’t play, but gave effort? David Jacobs after he had a stroke and could never play again? No. How about Trinton Strudivant, Darn, Richt and staff honored his schooly through multiple knee surgeries. Hmmm, maybe you are talking about Washaun and Caleb, but you know as well as everybody else does that these guys were shown the door because they wouldn’t follow the rules after MULTIPLE chances to thrive at UGA that they chose not to accept. Name me the player that was grayshirted or kicked off of Georgia team because they weren’t as good as advertised or didn’t fit the system? Enlighten us all

It isn’t that complicated. Richt UNDERSIGNED in 2012. UGA, according the rules just like EVERYBODY else, can have 85 on scholarship, they can sign 30 something for 2013 if they want if some of the players enroll early and count toward the previous year.

It isn’t oversigning if you expect to be at or under the 85 limit. UGA will likely be undersigned again in 2013 (under 85 on scholly and possibly give another ’ship or two to a walk on). Not one player will be asked to leave or give up their scholarship simply because UGA is over the limit and that player is hurt or can’t help the team for one reason or another. That doesn’t happen at UGA.

At Alabama, Saban knowingly signs more than 85 total and then the guys that get injured or aren’t as good lose their scholarship so they can eventually get to the 85 number. That is what is known as oversigning. Some of the players are pressured into going to JUCO from Alabama to be parked there as greyshirts to get under the 85 and some of them come back to Alabama and a scholarship when and if they can help the team. The others just move on with their lives after Alabama yanks their scholarship.

While this practice is technically not against the rules. It hurts kids and in my opinion shows very little in the way of morality. Signing more than 25 kids and counting early enrollees toward the previous year’s smaller class hurts exactly nobody. See any difference?

All Saban asked is you give it your best effort in the classroom and the field and not one or the other. Ask Cris Carter about how Nick handles kids that will not step to the line in the classroom! Nick sells parents and recruits on you will be successful in the classroom or you will not have any success on the field because you will not play! Then again continue sucking up to Richie for you do it very well. They should combine UGA and AU fanbase and teams.

As someone pointed out earlier, recruiting has never been CMR’s problem. UGA has always had a Top Ten class and then when it comes to actually playing the games the Dawgs are out coached and out played where it counts. Until they can actually back it up ON THE FIELD then everyone should hold judgement.

Mythical Oversigning and the Great Pumpkin analogy:

My confederates in the CFB world would have you believe that rogue institutions are lying in wait for innocent unsuspecting division #1 prospects like spider draws in flies to her web.

My friends nothing could be further from the truth. The Great Pumpkin from the Charlie Brown cartoon has never appeared and delivered presents to the children who believe in it and neither has the great ghost of oversigning has taken a scholarship away from a deserving scholarship player in the entire history of the sport.

How can this be true you may ask? Well I will ask you this in reply: Name me one criminal court case where this has been tried as it was defined by my counterpart. No, say you can’t find one case on even a google search lending credence to his charges?

How about a civil case either currently under consideration or one from the past then? Remember you can attempt to sue anybody without jurisprudence coming into the initial litigation.

What no case on file for this either? Not one case in the entire country supporting this false and biased accusation of a mythical grievance.

Not even a “pumpkin seed of evidence” exist which would lend tangible evidence as a solid base for these charges of oversigning?

Not one…

Even Judge ‘Wopner has no case on file in this lawsuit happy time in our country for an oversigning violation.

What about an Investigation by the NCAA on institutions for using the tactics that have been charged against Alabama and others from my detractor. Yes those charges are illegal and would most definitely violate the LOI and civil rights of the student.

NO investigation by the NCAA ever.

No investigation by any Conference ever.

No investigation by the ACLU or the SPLC ever.

No Federal, State, or even Civil Court case has ever been filed to corroborate the fictitious accusations EVER.

Face it the Great Pumpkin from Charlie Browns Halloween cartoon holds more validity for being real that any ghost or mythical creation called “oversigning.”

Charlie Brown may have been a block head but at least he imagined up a story that could not be disproven.

People who believe in mythical/oversigning also wear tin foil hats, and don’t bathe very often…

Check out the top 50 players that get drafted every year. You will find most were not 5-Star . Most are 4 star, 3-star or worst. A kid changes so much from 16 years old to the time he graduates college most don’t have any idea what position they will end up playing. If Henry is really looking around it is because Saban and Smart are a lot smarter than Richt and Bobo.Just tell the kid what he wants to hear like Saban is doing. Sure Henry we will let you run some plays at Tailback. Then when reality sets in after he is flatten by SEC 300 pound linemen or made hamburger by how vicious an SEC Linebacker hits him because he is too big and slow for tailback he will see that his best chance of playing Pro ball will be at Fullback as a blocker and runner of maybe 5 to 8 plays per game or if he gets big enough that he will beg to learn how to play Linebacker. Either way if he flips keep an eye on him and see if Saban doesn’t own up to his promise of letting HIM fail at Linebacker and then end up somewhere else before he graduates.

Do you realize how many good running backs UGA passed on because we trusted Derricks Word? That one fact right there should upset anyone that wears the Red and Black. Some very good running backs got their panties in a wad because we trusted Derrick and his “solid commit”. Richt needs to CLARIFY his commit now and not repeat the same mistakes he makes every year because of his loyalty to a player that never played a down for UGA! Coach Richt, what about your responsibility to the actual team, to get the best RB for the University? “Well, I got us Derrick Henry.” No sir, once again, you got squat because HE DOESN’T KNOW IF HE WANTS TO BE A BULLDOG ANYMORE! Fix it now Mark Richt. Show some leadership and fix it! very pleasing to see UGA offer scholarships and get early commits to players. Two things of concern, to many in state players being picked off that should be UGA first, Alot of soft commits on the board currently and some that will outright flip.

The fact that Murray will be the QB for 2 more years, even though many fans want to see Mason playing alot of the time and COMPETING IN GAMES for more playing time as well as most players, students and outside coaches looking in. How in the world is UGA under Richt going to recruit top offensive players when favoritism and BS play such a big part. Murray is the most disgusting member of the student body based on his actions off the field. The student body would like to see Murray gone, maybe when the video tape comes public and the final spring break announcements are made we will find out if Richt has a pair of balls like real men or not, it is already evident that McGarity showed up without any balls.

Just check the rating “number” occasionally and see whether or not you can brag for a few months until the football season comes along wrecks the annual blow holing .

Once a class hits Athens it enters a sucking black hole of talent and nothing close to the rated potential gets spit out in return . There is no “debate” to be had about that fact . Even if actually you believed this years class was already a #1 A++++ class … so what ? UGA recruiting has been top 10 for years .. top 5 many years … UGA results on the field … well … you know :-)

@7576DAWG

I have seen that argument before ( more 3 stars and 4 stars get drafted ) I have seen it made by fans of all programs … Tide included . In terms of raw numbers it is correct but it ignores one crucial fact … the majority of players are 3 or 4 star . 5 star rated players make up a small sliver of the athletes entering college every year ( No service I know of makes more than 1-2 % of their rated players 5 star )

To do an valid comparison you need to be looking at the % of 5 star players who eventually get signed vs the % of 3 star players that eventually make it . Doing an apples to apples like that you come up with a completely different picture than you do by the way you stated it …

Right now ratings mean nothing because it will change constantly throughout the year by all the recruiting services. But these UGA commits are SEC caliber. UGA coaching have got to stop being conservative and score points and not sit on the ball thinking the D will win it for them. I think the O will change things up. Here is a quote from Ty Smith HS Coach;
“I think he thinks Georgia might be trying to change a little bit,” said Rush Propst, Smith’s coach at Colquitt County High School in Moultrie, Ga. “Don’t get me wrong, as long as Mark [Richt] is there, they’re going to want to run the football and all that kind of stuff, but I think Georgia will line up and throw more in the next two or three years than they ever have in the past nine or 10.”

The success or failure of the DAWGS recruiting seems to parallel with the success of Nick Sabin convincing players to drop their commitment to UGA and go with the Tide. Sabin is hot on the tails of all the top players in Georgia and doing pretty well at beating the DAWGS to the punch. Gee, I hate seeing this!! There is no honor among thieves! Word is not sacred anymore! The University of Alabama can’t offer a player anything that the University of Georgia doesn’t have including a gateway to the NFL. ===========================================

if you look at the post by tony at 9:53 am out of the eight players he named at least five of the players he named were already on the Tide list … some long before UGA was even twitching on them . That number might go to six (less likely now than it would have been earlier because of developments elsewhere in Tide recruiting )

It could also already be dropped to four because of the same reasons ( I would say definitely already dropped to four except the young man in question is one worth taking regardless ) There is another player tony did not name that you see other Dawgs putting in the “must get” category that is a very viable Tide target as well .

While I know you were just picking at the Dawgs about Saban looking over their list to select his next player … I did find what tony wrote interesting because of the above :-)

(1) How does it measure up to the 33 number you put on it, since we undersigned and have only 76 remaining of the 109 scholarships signed by Mark Richt to play this season. 9 count toward the 2012 class, we way woefully under-signed including only 1 defensive back. Then, the 25 for 2013.

(2) How does it measure up in terms of average recruit ranking. On this point, we aren’t even in the top 25, signing up anyone and everyone we can.

(3) Then, after both of these measures are applied to what we actually sign, since some of our commitments are not even going to sign with so many being thrown against the wall to see if they stick or not, we can measure it in terms of did we really need yet another running back, another quarterback, or whether once again, we have left great holes obvious to everyone – such as we went 6 consecutive recruiting signed scholarship classes without a fullback when there are 200 fullbacks signed to scholarships every single season.

(4) Attrition is the last measure. If, as you perceive it, we sign 9 against 2012 and 25 against 2013 – given that over 30 percent of the recruits signed to scholarships for 2012 are just gone, good riddance, missing from the roster, how many of the 33 based on previous 30 percent attrition, 10, will be just gone, good riddance, missing from the roster.
________________________________________________
I’d say the over-whelming measure will be how poor a recruit in the far right column compared to the other schools, have we had to settle on, to fill the numbers – given all this attrition.

with the 25 limit in addition to 85 all the better schools in the SEC get good players. The difference is what they do with them once they arrive within the program. It appears a group of folks within the UGA AD complex isn’t happy with what they see. The buyout issue will have to be told once the contract is signed and that will be very interesting. Bama got stuck with 3 million for Mike Shula and we just finished the last payment of 500k last year since Mike went for the payment plan instead of the lump sum then again that might have been in his contract or he could have just helped Mal with the money situation. If so then hats off to the young guy.Dooley was a very good coach but I am not sure he was great but no far from that. Here we are in year 12 of the Mark Richt era, and once again, issues on the OL and issues in the Secondary. Both are the direct result of recruiting without a game plan. Just sign players and sit back and watch the attrition.

2012 :

TOP HALF IN THE NATION OL starts returning :

105 OL starts returning vols
104 OL starts returning LSU
102 OL starts returning Oklahoma
095 OL starts returning Alabama
095 OL starts returning Texas A&M
083 OL starts returning Georgia tek
079 OL starts returning crocodiles
068 OL starts returning Mizzou
065 OL starts returning Notre Shame
065 OL starts returning Arkansas

BOTTOM HALF OF NATION OL starts returning :

061 OL starts returning South Carolina
060 OL starts returning Vandie
057 OL starts returning Ole Miss
050 OL starts returning Kentucky
050 OL starts returning FSU
042 OL starts returning Ohio State # 100 in nation
037 OL starts returning Stanford # 101 in nation
035 OL starts returning Auburn # 106 in nation
031 OL starts returning Mark Richt # 110 in nation
017 OL starts returning Virginia Tech # 121 nation
017 OL starts returning Penn State # 121 nation

While the teams in the Top Half nationally are not going to run the football on our Defensive Front 2012, we ain’t going to run the ball 2012 on Top Defenses either; however, we will run up the stats against the 11 teams 2012 we play who none of them made any top 25 poll except for South Carolina.

Why this continues in year 12 of the Mark Richt era, as it has so many years during the 1st eleven years of his here, is that he specifically does not have a plan for recruiting 4 or 5 Top Offensive Linemen every year of the size bulk and height required for SEC competition, not that we have a typical SEC schedule, as we did not 2011 and do not 2012, with the dead last easiest schedule of all SEC teams both 2011 and now 2012 as well. When you recruit 255 lbs OL, you are giving a scholarship away to a guy who probably will never play on the OL. When you recruit 6’ and 6’ 1” OL, you are probably also recruiting those who will never play on the OL for us. When that is all you recruited on the OL, and maybe 1 top OL to go with them, this is what you get in year 12 of the Mark Richt era.

Again.

The last couple of years, UGA has had a disturbing trend with all of the suspensions, transfers and injuries. I want to believe CMR has addressed this but we could and will be effected by this very thing this year. Other than Missouri, we can thank the soft schedule for helping us through this. This leads me to everybodies favorite RB! This kid and immature kids like him are the reason UGA has had sad trend of attrition! Ask yourself what will happen to our recruiting needs if he decides to go somewhere else after we have turned down quite a few running backs because Coach Richt is counting on Derrick and here we are trusting someone who has indicated that HE WILL LET US DOWN! I’m not arguing with anyone about this. This has been a trend for us and it looks like it will repeat itself again. When will CMR learn? When Derrick H. indicated he was looking at Alabama, Richt should have said right then, that he was looking for a top tier RB. LOYALTY WORKS BOTH WAYS! Even if D.H. does come to UGA, he doesn’t have enough loyalty or maturity to contribute to the TEAM. You wonder why UGAhad a problem with attrition? THIS IS WHY…

1.AJ Harmon SR # 10 OT nation 5-Star, academic failure Flunked-Out, transfer
2.Brent Benedict SO # 10 OT 4-Star, transfer over Strength & Conditioning
3.Johnathan Owens SR # 39 OT listed med disq
4.Chris Little SR # 10 OT 4-Star transfer, ruled ineligible – NCAA Violation
______________
Say these 4 were here for 2012, as they were signed to be here – looking at their national ranking of top 10 all 3 of the 4 and the 4th was injury issues that moved him down the rankings – where we would be on our OL for this start # 6 in the nation football program who has not beat a single top team in years and years and years ?

We’d be in very good shape on the OL. If a bullfrog had wings, he could fly instead of bumping his buns on the rocks.

We talk about signing recruits here, when only 1 other program does a better job of that than us nationally. What we should be talking about is the attrition, with 33 missing including these key 4 on the OL 2012 when we should be making a run at top teams and don’t have an OL, and including the 11 Secondary players, just gone, good riddance, transfers – kicked off – encouraged to leave – NCAA violations – flunked out – arrested – suspended -jerked around by the coaching staff without a plan in the world of what to do with our signed recruits – and with 150 % more attrition for Mark Richt 2012 than Alabama, and a higher percentage than that compared to LSU.

NOWHERE MORE OBVIOUS than on our OL and secondary

Your Georgie tek recruiting ranking this morning is # 39 and when it is over, will be # 52 as it always is with Paul Johnson. In the meantime, Mark Richt has only 1 other program with higher rankings these 12 years of his here, and he has the most NFL draft picks of any program during this same timeframe. Mark Richt averages the # 7 recruiting class nationally for 12 years – consistently. This is his biggest strength. His biggest weaknesses are his coaching staff and his attrition – along with the commensurate 3 wins in 16 games over 12 years vs teams achieving any top 10 poll ranking.

We are filling up our commitment list with under-sized commitments and our 2 best recruits are both on the bubble of maybe not signing with us because they are at 2 positions where we could do without signing either and never notice it because we have so much depth at QB and RB already.

There are some good players there, the question is the overall talent. It appears they are trying to get as many guys as fast as possible. If that is true, sometimes you just get playes that have good measurements. In other words you are just trying to fill a roster. We did that at Bama when we were

Oregon makes Anthony Jenning’s list and Booboo and Richt don’t even offer? Great. Thank goodness Chip Kelly doesn’t know what he’s doing. His offense can’t hold a candle to the Bobo machine. This kid’s another Cam Newton and Kelly knows it. So do Richt and Bobo. They just don’t have the guts to act on it. 31 years and counting. You’ll never get there. The UGA fan base won’t allow it.

*******************

Georgia scored more points and gained more yards on Auburn in 2010 than Oregon’s “vaunted” offense did. Our defense couldn’t stop anyone that year. If we execute and don’t turn the ball over, our offense is fine. Chip Kelly wouldn’t win squat in the SEC. Plus he is a cheater

I’d give it about a C++ also to-date. If it continues (and if the only top recruits are both at positions we are totally stocked at beyond all belief already), it will end at C++. I have posters attack me all the time because of my opinions, so do you, but I don’t beat a dead horse like you do. I tried to reach out to you and bring you to the light, but you insist on the dark. My argument is about Derrick Henry’s “soft commit “. You say nothing about this! I actually think UGA can and should be TWEAKED! You on the other hand call for asphalting the whole yard instead of just cutting the grass. You go too far, you want a complete overhaul of the entire Atheletics Dept. I disagree, so you see, we are not saying the same thing. I see Derrick leaving UGA high and dry. Our present crop of RBs will be just fine without Henry, but this represents part of our attrition. You need to lighten up on the Neutron bamb talk!!!

Thomas Brown

Our offense looked fine against a team who was 1 of the top 48 with 8-5 records, all 48 other teams. Only that team, beat South Carolina while UGA once again beat no one of consequence. This is mainly a result of the fact, when you play the top teams, of which Auburn was not 2012, you have to have an offense, and our offense does only one thing well against top teams, give the ball back to their offense.

Thomas Brown

You, on the other hand, said

EXACTLY THE SAME COMMENT I AM MAKING today on my posts about our recruiting – that what we do is

ATTRITION

and, rather than talking about whom it is we sign or don’t, we should instead work on getting our

ATTRITION FIXED.

Then, you reply to me and tell me I am not talking about Henry. How stupid a comment is that, when that is exactly found in every post of mine today.

What we are left with is you

kingdaddy ATTRITION

Excuse me; that is MY POINT. To which you reply to me ATTRITION. Yeah, that’s our problem here. You think I want to throw out the baby with the bathwater, when what I want is what you want : Us to sign players whom we really need, and play them. Put them in the games and make them happy. 33 Attrition happens because they are not

DIALED IN.

You get players dialed in, by playing them and thereby winning against top teams.

They don’t play and we lose to top teams, which is all we’ve done, and the players are

Ramsey is not going to visit Bama. He is all Dawg. Henry is going to visit Bama. Ramsey and him spend every weekend together.

Ramsey’s influence is the best shot at Henry staying committed to UGA.

Richt has never wavered on Henry playing RB in college. All the other schools recruiting him have mentioned him at LB.

Hopefully, when it gets to the final call, Henry will remember Richt was honest with him from the start about playing running back since Henry has stated he has zero interest in playing linebacker in college

Where besides your 10:25 did you mention what I was talking about in my 9:43( derrick) You said if you repeated what I said that I would call you ugly names? You and I are nothing alike! I disagree with my school with respect. You want to put UGA in the worst light possible and have more in common with the trolls. I will say that sometimes you will critize other teams, but not as often as you slam the Doggies. I love UGA, YOU ON THE OTHER HAND ARE ONE BIG QUESTION MARK!!!

With all the likely shuffling that will happen before signing day, it’s impossible to say how good this class will be. We can safely say now that at least three SEC schools will have better classes. UGA will have to win a championship on the field before it wins one in the recruiting game.

@ Kingdaddy:

You should be ashamed upsetting TB. He stays upset enough without you extending his misery so give “The sky is falling” little twerp some leeway to avoid his daily dose of “Woe be unto anything Dawg Nation”. and “Fire everybody including the Redcoat Band”.

To his credit he found a new word(actually it closely describes his educational career quite accurately) ATTRITION . Apparently he plans to use his newfound word on here fulltime at least until the 2012 College Football season begins. Keep in mind that in his mind that word is pretty well reserved for his use only, because after all he found it.

I personally feel attrition is mostly a GOOD thing and happens to some degree at ALL COLLEGES and the NFL. TB even knows how many percentage points attrition effects various schools(Or so he thought) I gave him a couple of helpful pointers(Or so I thought) regarding establishing the correct terminology when commenting on percentage applications. Don’t know if he understood but just keep in mind what a load of negativity this man carries with him 24/7 and shares with us multiple times daily. He even showed us how UGA actually BEAT BAMMER at something(Attrition) although he wasn’t quite sure how badly the Dawgs beat the Grayshirts.

As one of your closer advisors I am recommending an apology from you to TB for whatever it was you did to him. It should be a minimum of 20 paragraphs of 100 words each which should keep him occupied for a day or so.

A couple of drinks before and during your apology writing is also suggested!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ DawginLex- It would be best if Henry went to Bama. Henry doesnt want to play LB in college, because he has never played D or special teams in high school football. I went to watch Henry play against Buford last year. I asked several of the Yulee parents why Henry didnt play both ways…Answer: “He is our entire offense, we cannot afford for him to get hurt”. They are worried about a 6′3″ kid that weights 235 pounds getting hurt in HS football…..We need durable kids at UGA….I would rather have Tyshon Dye (6′0″ 210 and 4.42). He fits the UGA mold for running backs. Let Bama have the headache of managing three (3) RB’s in the same class…..

So far I grade our recruiting for 2013 around a B.
Georgia already having 17 commits , by the end of the summer it could be 21 to 24 ,any negative talk or unnecessary pessimistic speculation is worthless chatter. Until we get all the 2012 commits in camp and practice starts there really is not much to talk about. The past is the past and I really don’t think it can be linked to the way the future turns out. With the addition of McGarity a lot of changes have already happened and a lot more are coming if we don’t start winning more Championships. McGarity has only been on the job for two years and needed the first year to assess Georgia’s overall sports program. So, actual changes have only been going on for one year. A program as big as Georgia’s will take 3 to 5 years to get things right.
Concerning the football program, we will know something around the middle of August and really know what kind of heart and soul this team has after the Missouri game.

CLASS AT UGA DOES NOT MATTER. THE RECRUITING RANKINGS AT UGA NEVER EQUATE TO A RATING IN THE TOP 10 BECAUSE RICHT IS NOT A CHAMPIONSHIP COACH.

AND UGA IS NOT A CHAMPIONSHIP PROGRAM.

ALABAMA IS A CHAMPIONSHIP PROGRAM AND NICK SABAN IS A CHAMPIONSHIP COACH.

Make no mistake, having a guy the size of Henry running the ball really gets me pumped. But, if he is afraid of competition, then he won’t be happy at any of the schools he has recruiting him.

If he wants to be the “man”, he should go to Furman or Wofford. If he is a competitor and wants to be the best, he shoudl understand that competition only makes you better.

I’m hoping he is just enjoying the recruiting experience and in the end, his close friendship with Brice Ramsey and his understanding that Richt has never wavered on him playing running back will get him in Athens

Bama will take three RB’s this class because Eddie Lacey will go pro early in addition one of our young backs is a a treath to be gone and I will leave it at that. You can’t prevent or control every situation but Nick does a great job of trying. The transfer of our #2 QB was huge. Most thought Phil would have gone but thought he would have left after the NC thus Nick would have taken 2 QB’s in this last class. You tell a guy last Jan that he will come into T-town and fight for backup in stead of being #3 then that changes the landscape and quick. If you doubt that then look at how Brice reacted to the change to be #2.

Jacket fan in Wisconsin.

It is nice that you can name a half dozen players who left the Georgia program, but I asked if you could name ONE guy who was kicked off the team or shown the door because of injury or not fitting into the scheme (not being good enough to help UGA).

Not a single player you listed fits in that category. Jordan Love? He played in the secondary for Georgia as a backup and didn’t play very well (in my opinion). The coaches may have told him that he has to get better to play more, but they didn’t force him out of UGA. I don’t know Jordan Love, but my guess is that he saw 4 seniors returning for UGA in the secondary and some very talented younger players and he figured he would get more playing time somwhere else. He certainly didn’t have his ’ship yanked for being injured or for a lack of making plays. With the suspensions of the entire starting secondary for UGA early this season, I bet that Richt wishes that Love and probably Derrick Owens had stayed and they might be second guessing their own decision based current events.

Some players end up not liking the program or the coaches as much as they thought they would or don’t think they will be able to earn much playing time, so they transfer or quit. By the way, EVERY one of the guys you posted were given an UNCONDITIONAL right to transfer. To tech, to Florida, to ANYWHERE they want to play. Nothing Immoral about that is there?

There have been no articles that ANY of the players you mentioned were “run off” because they were hurt or weren’t good enough. There haven’t even been Rumors to that effect. I guess you are “breaking” the story, congratulations.

http://blogs.ajc.com/recruiting/2012/05/28/how-would-you-grade-ugas-2013-recruiting-class-so-far/?cp=all#comment-260089

“some of our commitments are not even going to sign with so many being thrown against the wall to see if they stick or not, we can measure it in terms of did we really need yet another running back”

Uh, that’s right – that’s not about Derrick Henry. Yeah, right.

And at 9:52 am this morning to this blog, sir, kingdaddy :

“What we should be talking about is the attrition”

And, at 10:22 am this morning to this blog, sir, kingdaddy :

“Mark Richt averages the # 7 recruiting class nationally for 12 years – consistently. This is his biggest strength. His biggest weaknesses are his coaching staff and his attrition – along with the commensurate 3 wins in 16 games over 12 years vs teams achieving any top 10 poll ranking.”

And, at 10:25 am :

“We are filling up our commitment list with under-sized commitments and our 2 best recruits are both on the bubble of maybe not signing with us because they are at 2 positions where we could do without signing either and never notice it because we have so much depth at QB and RB already.”

__________________________________________________________
Have you seen 1 post yet that was not about Derrick Henry and attrition ?
__________________________________________________________

That was your point, you know kingdaddy, sir Derrick Henry and Attrition ?

At 10:44 this morning kingdaddy sir :

“I’d give it about a C++ also to-date. If it continues (and if the only top recruits are both at positions we are totally stocked at beyond all belief already), it will end at C++.”

Excuse me this is specifically again about Derrick Henry and Attrition.

I hope all these players that have committed stay with Georgia. Georgia needs this talent of players to compete in the SEC, and although there is a challenging road ahead it can be be done by Georgia.

If Coach Richt promised you a scholarship it will be there regardless of the impact you have or god forbid a an injury that happens. I understand that for some who have committed to Georgia, they are being pursued by other colleges and that’s fine , because it forces the prospects to analyze why he made the decision to come to Georgia and if Georgia is where they want to be? I hope they stay at Georgia and the Georgia fans, school and state of Georgia appreciates their current decision.

I see a trend that I’m encourage about and that is top-recruits are looking at Georgia seriously and the in-state recruits are taking notice!

Nkemdiche, barring a miracle, isn’t going to UGA. He’s a Bummer wrap. Adams is a long shot – lists
Auburn and Clemson as his favorites. Tunsil is 50/50 – either UGA or Florida. Foster? No way is he going to UGA. He is Bummer all the way. That’s to bad because the state of Georgia has more “top end” talent this year than either Florida or California but most will be going anywhere but UGA. This, plain and simple, is a failure of the UGA recruiters. There is one way and one way only to reverse this down slide. Richt must win the east and the SEC this year. Nothing else willqualify

Flo-Ri-Duh

May 30th, 2012
1:26 pm

I will give UGA a B for their recruits committed so far but a C on the one’s that are considering going to UGA that have not committed and a D on the one’s from Georgia that have committed elsewhere. Richt has about 10-12 scholarships left to offer and he has to hit a home run with this class. That means at least 8of these 1 have to be 4 stars or better. He’s got to win the SEC to change these players minds and he has to beat the Game Crocks, LSU and Bummer. He’s got to do something great to get these recruits attention off of the “gnome” master over there in Bummerville.

Spurrier is whining again. You lost to a mediocre Auburn team that UGA crushed last year. That is why you didn’t win the east. Quit moaning and complaining. You lost. Besides it was just pure luck that you beat UGA. They had a lot more talent than the Game Crocks and over 100+ more yards in the game. Coaching at UGA on the details has to get better. Special teams cost them 3 games last year. The only team better on their schedule was Boise State. In the other games they were out coached or just plain unlucky.

Flo-Ri-Duh

Spurrier is the OLD ball coach. At 67 + years his recruits are starting to wonder how much longer he will be around. He has already reserved a cabin on Lake Cry Baby for his retirement get away.
