Josh Cardiello: UGA lands second OL for 2013 class

UGA OL commit Josh Cardiello of Buford HS (AJC)

UGA OL commit Josh Cardiello of Buford HS (AJC)

After secretly committing to UGA several weeks ago, one of the state’s top interior linemen made it official on Saturday.

Josh Cardiello, a 6-foot-4, 280-pounder from Buford High School, committed to UGA over Florida State on Saturday. He also had football scholarship offers from Florida, Nebraska, South Carolina and North Carolina.

“I told Georgia a while back that I was coming there,” Cardiello told the AJC. “I just wanted to get my whole family over there [to Georgia] to do it. It’s official now: I’m a Georgia Bulldog.”

Cardiello took an unofficial visit to Georgia on Saturday with his family, including his parents and grandparents. He met with UGA’s Mark Richt and let him know he was ready to go public.

“I told Coach Richt ‘Let’s do this, let’s make it official,’” Cardiello said. “He was pumped up and excited, as were all of the other Georgia coaches.”

Why UGA over FSU? “I just had that feeling about Georgia that it was the place I needed to be.”

Cardiello, who will likely play center and maybe some at offensive guard in college, is commitment No. 16 for UGA for its 2013 recruiting class. He is the second commitment at offensive line, which is a position of need for the Bulldogs.

UGA commits for 2013

  1. RB Derrick Henry, 6-3, 241, Yulee, Fla.
  2. QB Brice Ramsey, 6-3, 190, Camden County HS
  3. S Tray Matthews, 6-2, 205, Newnan HS
  4. DB Shaq Wiggins, 5-10, 160, Sandy Creek HS
  5. DB Steven Nelson, 6-0, 185, College of Sequoias JC (Northside-WR HS)
  6. DT Chris Mayes, 6-4, 295, Mississippi Gulf Coast JC (Spalding HS)
  7. DT DeAndre “Moose” Johnson, 6-3, 311, Northgate HS
  8. WR Tramel Terry, 6-0, 185, Goose Creek (S.C.)
  9. LB Johnny O’Neal, 6-1, 230, West Laurens HS
  10. WR Kyrin Priester, 6-2, 185, Brookwood HS
  11. OL Aulden Bynum, 6-5, 250, Valwood HS

  14. ATH JJ Green, 5-9, 178, Camden County HS
  15. DB Reggie Wilkerson, 6-0, Citron, Fla.
  16. OL Josh Cardiello, 6-4, 280, Buford HS

@ Game Changer:

“Spurrier has been a winner everywhere he’s been”!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How bout that stint with The Redskins???? Just like Saban. They both tucked their tail and came running back to college coaching. Meanwhile CMR was busy getting to 100 career wins the 6th fastest time in history. CMR has a better won loss percentage than any SEC coach(He’s in the top 10 in the nation in won/loss records). How many years did it take Spurrier to win ANYTHING resembling a title of ANY TYPE at Game Chikun country???

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Something tells me Richt didn’t even put forth the effort to even recruit this kid.
Richt would be talking about how much hard work he put in. Any man that is constantly
telling you about his hard work, is generally one lazy man. Have you ever heard Nick Saban
talk about hard work? The man lives it, he doesn’t have to tell you about it. Can you imagine Richt
trying to teach a young man about benefits of a work ethic? That would be a short conversation.
Now posing in front of cameras, he has Nick beat.

@bfromeast

Muschamp never said he was against a change, he is quoted that it would be hard for a SEC game not to matter, but all games matter, just not factored regarding division champ.

The only coach in the U.S. regarding any level of football that would make such a statement as a game not mattering or ” not a must win game “, Mark Richt, UGA HEAD COACH FOOTBALL

@TampaGator….you can look at stars about one of your linemen from GA but WE will look at the BIG PICTURE…..Florida wanted him….. but UGA got him! You cant twist that fact around. BTW Florids is going to the SEC Championship for a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG TIME!

Another fact that you cannot twist around. Because it will play out and when it does Florida will be watching UGA or South Carolina in the East for the next few years and it will be a race between Tenn, Vandy and UF for 3rd. Maybe even 2nd.

It is the decade of the UGA Bulldogs. Might as well go ahead and accept it and make your peace with it. Or you can jump on the bandwagon and be a UGA fan like you really want to be deep down…..GO GEORGIA BULLDOGS AND THE CLASS OF 2013!

Cant stop UGA right now. Last year was a year ahead of schedule to get to the SEC and that experience will be the reason UGA wins the SEC in 2012. UGA has ALL the momentum and unless the coaches leave, get used to seeing Red and Black in the GA dome in the championship game the next 5 years minimum…..

GC you are dead wrong. The Presidents do not vote on what the head coaches want. If that was the case then the SEC wouldn’t have the 25 signing rule. The overwhelming of SEC coaches were against that rule change from 28 to 25. The Presidents look at things differently and they will not make that moronic change to division game determining who makes it into the title game.

You just can’t write this stuff, us in here talking about a mediocre football program for years – and, it not being about mediocre us but about South Carolina – as here we sit bragging about what we did in 2005 last winning The SEC Championship when that was eight (8) seasons ago now this up-coming 2012 season with us The # 6 SEC team 2012 in won/lost after 2005. Us with 1 win after 2005 against teams who achieved a top 10 poll and The SEC with 15 wins over teams who achieved top 10 by the 6 teams in a row since winning the BCS NC. How much more mediocre can any team actually be than # 6 in their conference in won/lost record after 2005 ?

@All: UGA has been a below avg football program for a very long time. If you are not first, you are last. Every family member knows the name of the winning horse from Saturdays race, no one knows the name of any other horses in the race. Facts are: When SEC football is discussed UGA does not get mentioned.

The university of GA needs money money money, it is desperate to raise tuition more and more on the backs of our children. Why UGA is so short on funds and revenue is a huge question but Pres. Adams is jumping ship asap. Just how much money is owed by the flagship University in the State of GA. Would love to see the AJC business reporters do a complete examination of books and records during the Pres Adams period. The Athletic Department is not making the money it once did and 2008 was the high side, ever since the bottom has fallen out, UGA Athletic Department needs money, just where did all this money go?

@Columbus you’re a funny story teller. You don’t know how it will play out in East. UGA can have injuries or suspensions like SC last season. Cariello is a solid recruit but UF had 3 other C higher on the board. He couldn’t commit even if he wanted too. It’s the nature of the game but he should be solid in Athens. What are your other targets at OT? Because Tusil will be a Gator.

Regarding Lattimore…ACL injuries, surgery, and rehab have shown increased success in recent years due to advances in medicine. Doctors can almost make the ligament even stronger than before!! Including Tommy Jones surgery.

@gatornation19″

Tunsil is a definite Gator lean but a very close relationship to D Henry exist throwing it up in the air. Tunsil will not attend UGA and D Henry is all but de-committed.

Kamara from Norcross is running back in play currently. South Carolina, Tennessee and Vandy offer great opportunities for both Kamara and or Henry although I dont think Henry would go to Vandy. Alot of players left that are top shelf. Tunsil is a top five lineman for 2013. Both Henry and Kamara are top 10 running backs for 2013. I still look for South Carolina to play a big part of Derrick Henry choice.

First let me say, HAROLD,WHAT TEAM DID YOU SAY YOU SUPPORT? If someone else knows please tell me! G Dawg, on the ACL, like a lot of athletes, I tore mine too. Yes they can heal back to 100%, but the athlete doesn’t always come back to 100%. There is a mental aspect to this issue that you missed in your 1:28 pm. A big power-back may be able to run on the knee, but may take a little while trusting his knee when he is making a hard cut. Especially, a Big power back. Its mental and some athletes are slow or never overcome this fear. If anyone says 100% of athletes recover from an ACL tear, they are FOS! A back like Lattimore only comes around every Blue-Moon, and even at 90% he wil be better than most RBs, but he may-not (MAY-not) be the same and we won’t know until he gets popped a few times in that knee by an SEC All-Star, and M.L. keeps poping up like toast. Then we’ll know, not until…
