Is Alabama’s serious flirtation with UGA QB recruit Brice Ramsey over?

Alabama got some good recruiting news on Wednesday.

And it’s likely good news for UGA, too.

Alabama’s serious flirtations with UGA’s prized QB recruit, Brice Ramsey – highlighted by last week’s 90-minute Skye conversation between Nick Saban and Ramsey – are likely over after the Crimson Tide landed one of the nation’s top quarterbacks on Wednesday.

Good news for Alabama on Wednesday likely means good news for UGA's Mark Richt. After Alabama landed another QB, it's serious flirtations with Brice Ramsey are likely over (Photo taken and owned by Ramsey family. Photo was not owned, submitted, authorized or arranged by UGA)

Utah QB Cooper Bateman, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 61 overall prospect by ESPN, committed to Alabama on Wednesday. Ramsey is ranked at No. 110.

It is very rare for two high-profile QB prospects in the same class to attend the same college.

“Maybe that will be the case,” Camden County High School coach Jeff Herron told the AJC on Wednesday afternoon. “One thing I’ve found out about quarterbacks, they all  know what’s going on with all the schools, in terms of who is there now and who is being recruited. It’s not like a linebacker, lineman or running back.

“The quarterbacks are all highly aware of what else is going on. That certainly might affect his decision. I don’t know. Brice’s decision, as far as I know and I’m concerned, is to sign with the University of Georgia. So hopefully with the other kid committing to Alabama, that’s good for Alabama and good for Georgia.”

Last week, Rivals.com’s Keith Niebuhr reported that Alabama was the only threat to UGA, quoting Ramsey as saying, “If it’s not Georgia, it’ll be Alabama.” It sent shockwaves throughout the Bulldog nation.

What about now? Ramsey’s coach hadn’t talked to anybody yet at Alabama to find out how they still feel about Ramsey after picking up another QB. However, Herron was fully aware how strongly the Crimson Tide felt about Ramsey before Wednesday’s turn of events.

“The offensive coordinator from Alabama told me Brice was one of their priorities, and they were going to recruit him like crazy and try to get him to come over there and look around,” Herron said. “I think certainly Brice is very much committed to Georgia. But, you know, any kid is going to be intrigued by the national champions and them showing a great amount of interest in you.

“I think he is intrigued enough he wanted to go look. But do I think he’s going to change his mind? From a personal standpoint, I hope not because he’s committed to Georgia and I expect him to honor that decision. But again, that’s Brice’s decision. I can’t say if they were both recruiting me that I wouldn’t entertain both of them.

“Brice is in a different situation than most kids because the colleges are willing to wait on him until signing day.”

UGA fans are hoping that with Alabama’s good fortunes on Wednesday, it will secure the services of Ramsey, who committed to the Bulldogs last summer. Ramsey has remained a hot commodity in recent months, picking up additional scholarship offers from competing schools.

“It’s different with quarterbacks; I’ve certainly discovered that,” Herron said. “They all look at everything.  Honestly, I think Brice could tell you the depth chart on every team in the SEC and ACC. In the old days, you couldn’t look that stuff up. We’ve talked about that and I said, ‘Brice, there’s going to be great quarterbacks anywhere you go to school. You’ve got to believe enough in yourself that you can compete with anybody.’  And he feels way. But then again, they all look at it like ‘I don’t want to go to a place where I have to compete again five other quarterbacks. I want to go where I compete against one or two.’”

I just hope enough players from this year’s recruiting class are able to not get arrested/kicked out of school so that Brice has enough teammates around him to field a team.

Bama was never a “serious” contender for BR. More Saban propaganda from this blog.

The flirting is not over but it might as well be. Ramsey is all Dawg.

Bateman is already committed and Ferguson from NC will be next.

Ramsey would never go over there anyway but especially with 2 other QB’s in the same class.

Also, tide roll, you can take you Anthony Jennings talk and shove it.

Saban has passed him over just as I have been telling you for weeks.

And DJ Shockley says “HI”

@Ted, so what did Saban and Ramsey talk about for 90 minutes? Alabama’s grayshirt policy? It was definitely serious, by all accounts. However, I do think in the end, Ramsey was going to be a Dawg. The only thing that will change this now is if UGA tries to sign another QB for 2013. Otherwise, Ramsey is a lock.

Otherwise Lord Saban would have taken Ramsey from the fleabag nation.

Trust me on this. If we would’ve wanted Brice Ramsey, we would’ve gotten him. He was our backup plan in case we didn’t get Cooper. Bye Bye Brice, see you in the SEC!

Ramsey is all Dawg. Looks like another great class. Although 2012 class wasn’t large in numbers, was great to see UGA sign #1 players from state of Florida, North Caroina, Tennessee and Georgia.

Dawg Ed no recruit is going to pass up on the opportunity to talk to Nick Saban, Les Miles, Mark Richt, or any top coach during this once in a lifetime experience for them. The duration of the conversation is meaningless. If Saban is any kind of recruiter (which we know he is), the majority of the talk was non-football.

Saban’s been all over Ramsey for months. This is not a new phenomenon and Brice has never wavered for a second. And no other QB recruit to UGA (which isn’t gong to happen, btw – UGA is done at QB) is going to deter him, either.

Dream on

Ramsey is all Dawg. His ranking of 110 is a reflection of the type of offense they run.

He has already been invited to the Elite 11 finals in California.

Saban spent 90 minutes with him on Skype and still couldn’t chnage his mind.

Saban is so smooth. Give a local boy a call, talk 90 minutes, set the stage that he and Alabama are total class act, then accept the commitment of Cooper Bateman, top 5 QB nationally in the 2013 class. Cooper Bateman passes for more completions and yardage as a sophmore than Brice Ramsey will during total high school career. Brice Ramsey is not top five in the state of GA but I will not complain because I would rather have Brice Ramsey skip senior season and start the 2012 season for UGA before Aaron Murray. Welcome Brice Ramsey, look for you in 2015 season at UGA.

Oh Nick knows how to apply the pressue when he needs to get a player to make a move. Bateman is the only QB that had a committable offer before Nick’s camp in June. Bama will take two QB’s because we’re still short one due to Phil leaving due to his father’s health. If the kid from 10RC Max Staver(sp) does well at camp then he just might be the 2nd. As the man said it’s very hard to convince 2 star QB’s to come duke it out since the loser normally leaves. Brice is a goodun and Nick really likes the kid and his parents. If the guy is not a life long UGA fan like Crowell then you might wish to hold off pooping the cork.

You dawgs need to get over yourselves. If Ramsey lived in Utah and CB lived in Ga you get the idea who the real priority is. After all ESPN, 24/7, Scout, Rivals, and MaxPreps have said the same thing.
CB is the higher rated prospect. FACT. Will he be only time can tell, but this is the most polished and fundamentally sound QB CNS has successfully recruited. I will say Jawja has done a good job with QB development, but the new OC at Alabama brings a whole new dynamic to the NATIONAL CHAMPS…..

@ryan, Derrick Henry is not going to sign with UGA,

Current leaders for D Henry is South Carolina and Tennessee, has been since before and after the day he commited to UGA. Several other teams are in the mix but on lesser note at this time. L Tunsil and D Henry are likely to attend the same school at this time and UGA is not interested in UGA. L Tunsil is a Florida lean but wants to play in game one as a freshman just as D Henry.

There is so many top recruits remaining that any two SEC teams that get the right mix and numbers could be a instant 2014 overnight threat. Tennessee and South Carolina offer L Tunsil freshman starting position along with D Henry.

Terry has talked alot but will jump ship, he is not a very stable commit and never has been, would be the case with any school he commited to so this is nothing against UGA, jus the facts.

T Matthews is the biggest concern on the defensive side of the ball currently, need to get him signed and in school for Jan 2013 classes.

Alabama got themselves a top notch young man. From his highlight film he has a strong accurate arm. Ramsey was never going to flip and neither are any of the others. It is a great experience for these young men to be able to talk to these coaches. We shouldn’t worry to much about quarterback for a while. Richt knows how to coach them that is why so many good ones want to come to UGA. The dawgs will be really good this year and for years to come. The only thing to worry about is OL inexperience. We have good ones just need seasoning. Bulldogs in Atlanta this December.
